To Keep You Safe
Universe: Movie (but I tweaked it to be more dangerous)
Warnings: Angst and a lot of it, kind of terrible pacing, weird P.O.V changes? Fluff, crying, Implied lemon
Word Count: 3290
Request: Yes, @samseaa thank you for waiting so long holy shit
Note: Hey it's Fairy again, this is the angsty-est thing I've ever written so bear with me, it's been in my drafts for about 4 months (Whoops) and now it's finally done, it wasn't meant to end in an implied lemon but Sam suggested it as a joke and then I decided I would do it. It was kind of uncomfortable to write but I DID IT ANYWAY CAUSE I AIN'T GONNA BACK DOWN WHEN I MAKE A JOKE AND THEN DECIDE TO FOLLOW THROUGH WITH IT. I've put a warning wear the implied lemon begins if you want to skip it.
Reader and Lloyd are about 18-19 years old in this one, cause in my country your legal from 16 but I felt 18-19 was a safer number, consent and protection is key my friends.
It's set so that Garmadon wasn't defeated when Lloyd was 16, basically, the events of the movie have yet to occur.
This was also based off of the final scene from Spiderman: Homecoming (sorry if that spoils anything)
---
Lloyd has a secret, a massive secret. One that would be ruined if anyone was to find out, especially his girlfriend (Y/N), He cared immensely for the girl and wouldn't know what to do with himself if she ended up being hurt because of him or his alter ego.
So he kept his mouth shut about it. For a year and a half.
Being the green ninja was tough on the boy and he wishes there was someone he could spill his guts to and there is, both his girlfriend and his mother but he didn't feel like an early death anytime soon, so he just kept going, pushing the harsh emotions that came with being one of Ninjago's saviours aside.
So when Lloyd gets a call from (Y/N) after a fight and accidentally answers the phone in the process of trying to shut it off he could feel his heart sink,
"Ah, (Y/N) haha, how are you?" Lloyd heard an exasperated sigh carry through cell phone, he could picture the unamused face she was making without having to be anywhere near her,
"What happened to 'Yeah we can meet up after school and discuss the English homework' huh?" She questioned incredulously, her tone was one of anger and disappointment, she was really looking forward to spending the afternoon with her boyfriend,
"Ah, sorry. I got caught up in... Something," The blond trailed off as he made silent gestures at his team to be quiet,
"In what?" She pressed, she wanted a valid excuse as to why she got blown off. Again,
"Uh... Shopping," Lloyd almost wanted to strangle himself,
"Shopping?" Her deadpanned tone carried through the line, he could imagine her rolling her eyes at his lame excuse, he had to make it more believable,
"Yeah, I'm shopping with my mum..." Lloyd tried to sound as confident as possible with his excuse, hoping to any god above that she wouldn't ask any more questions and just hang up the phone,
"Oh," Lloyd felt his shoulder drop in relief as her tone of voice perked up, she was believing his lie, "Tell your mum I say hi," She continued, he was almost home free and then Cole chuckled.
It wasn't very loud but it wasn't quiet enough for (Y/N) to miss it,
"Wait was that Cole in the background? Lloyd where are you-" Her questioning tone was cut short by Lloyd's quick reply,
"Nope, ahh haha. You might wanna get your hearing checked (Y/N), okay. Love you, bye." Lloyd rushed before hanging up the phone although his speed wasn't on his side as he could still hear (Y/N)'s frantic exclamations coming out of the phone, something along the lines of "Lloyd Montgomery Garmadon, don't you dare hang up on m-" before he was able to end the call and then drop his phone.
He sighed softly picking it up from the concrete floor of the secret ninja headquarters to see a small chip in the side of the phone, he looked to his friends who had a mixture of amused and shocked faces,
"It's not funny," He mumbled as he slid the device into his pocket, making a note to apologize to (Y/N).
But that would mean having to lie about it again, the team dispersed. Cole apologizing to Lloyd about mucking up his phone call, the blond shrugged it off as he walked out and off toward the beach.
The sun was dipping below the horizon and he sighed letting the sand shift between his finger as he sat down, his mind wandered to a point in time he wishes didn't have to happen. Back when being (Y/N)'s boyfriend and a ninja wasn't so difficult.
The fight had worn on, the Secret Ninja Force was winning but they were all exhausted. Lloyd yelled orders to his team via communicator when he spotted a very familiar looking girl, she seemed to be yelling at one of his father's generals, behind her was a young boy with curly red hair. The man aimed his weapon at the girl, at (Y/N), the boy cowered in fear but (Y/N) stood her ground.
'What is she doing?! She's going to get herself killed!' Lloyd screamed in his head before announcing to the team that he was taking a quick detour, he flew his mech closer to the street yelling out towards the (h/c) girl and the boy she was protecting, she turned her head towards the sound before shuffling the boy onto her back, Lloyd's dragon hovered between (Y/N) and the henchman.
Lloyd grabbed her forearm hoisting her up onto the dragon's back and swiftly took off avoiding the fire of the man they left in the dust,
"Are you alright ma'am?" Lloyd dropped his voice a little, hoping she wouldn't recognize it. He was holding back a wave of fright and anger, he was so worried that if he hadn't gotten there when he did, that (Y/N) and the boy she'd been protecting would have been hurt.
Lloyd kept calm and collected as he landed (Y/N) and the young boy down in a safe area,
"Thank you, Mr. Green Ninja," The curly haired boy stammered, the sides of Lloyd's mask lifted with a smile,
"Stay safe, please," A sense of urgency bled through his voice, the two nodded at the young man who had saved their skin before (Y/N) took the boy away, trying to help him find his mother.
That memory was from almost two years ago why the hell was it coming up now, Lloyd hated it, but it was the way that he and (Y/N) had fought afterwards that ripped him up inside, he was so scared about her getting hurt that the filter between his brain and his mouth just stopped working.
After seeing the little boy, Alexander, safely in his mother's arms (Y/N) sighed in content, she dusted some debris off of her shoulder and turned around to make her way home, she heard her name being frantically called from the crowd, she turned her face to see her boyfriend and smiled when he approached but that smile soon dropped as she noticed his worry stricken expression,
"Thank god you're okay!" The blond exclaimed as he threw his arms around her tightly, he'd never been this scared for someone ever and (Y/N) could tell, he held her like she'd disappear when he let go, he grabbed her wrist and pulled her back toward the apartment complex they were both living in, once there Lloyd took (Y/N) to her home, into her room and shut the door.
No one was in the home but the two of them,
"Lloyd-" She started but he cut her off sharply,
"What the hell was that!?" He huffed as he turned to face her, his cheeks were flushed,
"What do you mean?" (Y/N) had never seen Lloyd this angry before and she was a little scared, to say the least, he was usually very calm and collected.
He almost never lost his cool, well never in front of her.
"You! Running off and playing hero, you almost got yourself killed!" He yelled, his voice tight and taunt,
"I wasn't just going to leave a little boy defenceless Lloyd, he needed help and I was close so I decided to step in!" Now (Y/N) felt the need to put up a defence, she felt she had good reason for what she did,
"You're so impulsive, what happened when you got there? You had no way of defending yourself or that boy!" Lloyd shouted furiously, he paced the length of her room as she sat on the bed with her arms crossed,
"Well isn't it lucky that the Green Ninja got to us first," (Y/N) muttered under her breath turning her nose up at the blonde indignantly,
"You can't always rely on luck (Y/N)!" He stopped his pacing to face her head on, he was so unbelievably mad at her,
"If you'd been in the position I was in you would have done exactly the same! That reminds me where the hell were you?!" The (H/C) girl countered loudly, Lloyd stumbled with his visage,
"I-I got swept up in the commotion and lost you, and then I saw you having a gun held to your head," He put together the story quickly, lying through his teeth,
"And you didn't think to ask if I was okay? If I felt alright after staring down the barrel of a gun?" She asked lowly, his breath became baited.
Through all of his yelling, he forgot what was really important, that (Y/N) was okay and alive.
"I- Shit, you're right," His green eyes softened as he took a step towards her,
"It's not a big deal-" She lowered her head sinking into her mattress,
"No it is, are you okay?" He stopped her, before sitting on her bed and pushing some hair out of her face,
"Yeah, I know you're still mad at me so maybe you should just go home." She dismissed him, pushing his hand away only for Lloyd to hold onto her fingers tightly,
"I'm sorry, I was just so so scared of losing you, I don't know what I would've done if you'd gotten hurt," Lloyd confessed bringing (Y/N) into his arms, she sighed relaxing against him. The held each other there for a while,
"It's okay, I'm fine, see?" She pushed him back by his shoulders so he could look at her. "Just a bit dusty is all," She explained as she gestured to the dust on her shirt and in her hair, he sighed in relief bringing her back to him,
"You're not getting rid of me that easy Sunshine." (Y/N) felt Lloyd's tense muscles relax as he drew his head back to lock eyes with her, he leaned forward to capture her lips with his.
The kiss was needy and urgent but didn't get very far as Lloyd broke away,
"Promise you won't throw yourself into danger like that ever again, please?" Lloyd pleaded, pressing his forehead against (Y/N)'s, the (h/c) closed her eyes and nodded her head,
"I promise, but you have to promise to," She said quietly holding up her pinky finger, Lloyd chuckled but wrapped his pinky around her's,
"I promise," He smiled, but his heart lurched as he lied to her face.
He stood up, making his way back home. The guilt of lying to (Y/N) came on full force, that two-year-old memory still made him sick to his stomach, the way he lied to her wasn't fair but needed to be done.
---
I climbed up the fire escape, the copious amounts of training making my footfall almost non-existent, the hood of my gi still over my head as I effortlessly jarred my bedroom window open, I turned to close the window but didn't notice (Y/N) standing in the doorway when I had my back turned.
I pulled my hood off and that's when she made herself known,
"What the fuck!?" She shouted in exclamation, I jumped out of my skin as I turned to face her. A look of betrayal flashed across her face, then one of worry and then one of anger,
"What are you doing here?!" I asked quickly, she held up her English book before slamming it down on my desk,
"You goddamn fucking hypocrite!" She shouted, I grabbed her wrist pulling her into my room and shutting the door, I shushed her but that didn't help much,
"I had to keep this part of me a secret," I explained calmly, she only scowled at me,
"You promised that you wouldn't get into the fights, you promised me!" She shouted, her eyes brimming with tears,
"I had to lie to protect you, I love you and I want you to be safe," I tried to explain but she wasn't about to step down
"How long has this been going on?" She asked angrily,
"I was doing it before I met you," I lowered my gaze as she shook her head in disbelief,
"I didn't want to lie to you," I lifted my head to gage her reaction and low and behold my comment just made her angrier,
"Bullshit!" She seethed, her voice was sharp and her eyes smouldered in anger,
"It's not bullshit, (Y/N)" I tried to reason but she cut me off again, her voice wasn't as loud but it was still volatile,
"Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. All that's come out of your mouth for the last two years has been bullshit, you've lied to my face this whole time." She took in a deep breath but I knew better than to interject, she hiccuped trying to collect her thoughts,
"For God sake Lloyd, we're meant to be moving in together in eight months time, how long were you going to keep this a secret?" Tears cascaded down her cheeks, she dragged her sleeves across her face to rid them. Her cheeks becoming an angry red colour, it made my heart shatter.
"I was going to tell you-"
"Oh, you were going to tell me" She gave another choked sob, "I was waiting for the right time (Y/N), this was never going to be easy, telling you was never going to be easy and I hated having to keep it to myself but-"
"But you still did," She cut in snarkily, I gave an exasperated sigh, "But, it was for your safety. I don't know what I would do if you got hurt because of me or what I do," My voice was hushed, seeing her crumble in front of me wasn't pleasant at all and I was finding it hard to keep my own walls up.
This girl was special. She made my every resolve fall away, I was connected to her emotions in ways I couldn't even begin to comprehend. Screw not wanting to hurt her physically through my duties as a ninja, this was much worse.
Seeing (Y/N) sitting on my bed, red face and tear stained cheeks, choked sobs and hiccups escaping her throat, seeing her this visibly upset was an awful sight. She was still as beautiful as ever but I didn't ever want to see her this hurt ever.
And it's all over something I did, or more importantly something I didn't do.
I sat down next to her, she ignored the dip of the mattress and didn't steal a glance in my direction. Unshed tears rested in the edges of her (e/c) eyes, her breath was shaky as she collected herself, I knew that the last thing she wanted right now was to be touched but I continued on anyway,
"I'm sorry," I uttered softly, her head snapped in my direction,
"No you don't have to apologize, I was the one who overreacted," She exclaimed quickly, she sniffled as she turned her whole body to face me,
"But I should've told you sooner," (Y/N) lifted her eyes to mine taking in a ragged breath, "But, It was for my safety. I wasn't looking at the whole picture or even taking into account how scary all of this must be for you," She countered in a raspy voice. I tilted my head in question, silently asking her to elaborate,
"It's just, all the thoughts that went through my head were about every time you came to school with a new injury it wasn't because of you being clumsy it was the aftermath of fights," She waited for my response so I nodded my head, she wasn't wrong at all, "And that just made me more scared-" I could hear her throat tighten up as she struggled to keep another round of tears at bay "-Because what if me finding out had been a totally different outcome, what if it was because you were-" She didn't get to finish her scentence before the flood gates opened again.
I held her against my chest, hoping she could hear my heartbeat before whispering sweet nothings in her ear,
"I'm here."
"I'm okay."
"I'm not going anywhere." I hushed, repeating this mantra not only to her but to myself, her sobs were strangled and I loathed them, once she had calmed herself down she lay her head on my shoulder, sniffling and coughing,
"L-Lloyd?" Her voice was small and weak, I hummed in response rubbing my hand up and down her back soothingly,
"Does that mean the times you had nightmares and wouldn't tell me what they were about, were they were about this part of your life? About me getting hurt?" She asked tentatively, I felt my throat thicken up and nodded my head,
"That and uh, you leaving me when you found out," a tiny gasp escaped her lips as she brought up her head to meet my eyes, great now I was crying too.
She ever so carefully wiped away my tears with her thumbs, she pushed my head onto her shoulder combing her hands through my hair, I almost laughed I was a lot bigger then her but there she was cradling me like a child, I'd be lying if I said it wasn't comforting,
"Thank you (Y/N)" I mumbled wrapping my arms tighter around her waist, my hands caught in the fabric of her jersey, she didn't have to say anything and that's how it was for a while.
(Y/N) sat in between my legs, my arms around her waist and her hands on my thighs as she tried to keep the combined weight of our bodies from falling over.
I lay my head on her shoulder, my nose buried in her neck. I took in a shaky breath, I could smell her perfume, it was light but there.
The room was silent aside from our sniffles and the clearing of our throats.
(Y/N) put one hand on my cheek, asking for my attention which I gave to her fully, her fingers whispered against the skin of my cheeks as she smiled softly at me,
"Are we good?" She whispered, locking eyes with me,
"Yeah." I smiled. "We're good." A grin broke out on her face as she connected her lips to mine.
The kiss wasn't rushed but it was definitely needed, I held her waist lightly as if she were made of glass and she pressed her body closer to mine, she broke for air. The kiss left me breathless, she sure was something.
--- (Implied Lemon starts here)
We hadn't moved from our previous position, the minutes dragged on into hours and it was still just the two of us in my bedroom, my head was back on her shoulder and her hands back on my thighs, my arms hung loosely around her waist as she hummed a made-up tune.
I kissed the exposed skin of her neck, her tune faltering slightly, I continued to lay feather-light kisses on her neck and collarbone, her breath hitched in response.
Her hands gripped my thighs slightly as I put more pressure into the kisses, she moved a hand into my hair, tangling it in my blond locks. I let out a small groan and continued to move up from her exposed neck to the underneath of her jaw.
(Y/N) shuddered gripping my thigh again, I chuckled at her reaction before pulling back to admire her, her cheeks were flushed red and her breathing a little heavy,
"You know," She started, a smirk playing on her lips, "You look good like that," She gestured to my gi, it was falling down over one of my shoulders and was loose compared to how I usually wear it,
"Really?" I asked, it was my turn to go red as she giggled, she traced the hem of material slowly and then gripped it.
She pulled me forward into a fiery kiss and I eagerly returned it, she again pulled on the black and green material that was still tight in her grasp and shifted our weight so she was lying on her back and I was leaning over top of her, we broke for air and rested our foreheads against one another,
"So Sunshine, what are we gonna do?" (Y/N) asked innocently but the look on her face was anything but.
A lopsided grin stretched along my face as I simply pulled her back into lip lock and pushed her down into the mattress.
