I was on the bridge when the first snow of that winter flurried through the air. I was alone because Ge still didn't know about my secret bridge and I was planning on keeping it that way! I had my phone in my hands and kept looking down at the picture of Will. He was like a stranger, someone I had never known and never met.
"You should call him you know?" I was startled by an adult female voice next to me, but when I looked over I saw a familiar goddess leaning her back against the stone railing of the bridge. She was dressed in a large fur coat and big leather boots
"Aphrodite, what the hell are you doing here?" My voice was calm but inside I was tensing up. Why were the gods and goddesses still showing up in places they should be!?
"I'm here" she got up and stood in front of me, pointing an accusative finger "because you, sir, need to sort out your priorities!" I sighed and looked back out at the river but then I heard another female voice on my other side
"Mother?" I looked up to see Sidney standing on the the bank and looking down on the bride. I looked back at Aphrodite who was smiling, and was walking toward Sidney with her arms open
"My darling child!" The two embraced and Sidney looked at me in amazement
"NICO, what-" she began but I cut her off
"Demigod, hades" I leant my own back against the stone to form a triangle between us
"Okay, but mother! What on earth are you doing here? Winter solstice is so close!" Sidney's tone urgent and rushed but Aphrodite shushed her
"I am simply here on business, I was going to come up and see you at the castle but it now seems I have metaphorically 'hit two birds with one stone!'" She beamed
"What are you doing here Sidney?" I asked trying hard not to make it sound rude
"I followed you down here, it's a little creepy but after the thing in the library with Ge-"
"Ugh!" Aphrodite exclaimed "do not utter that foul name!" She turned her back to Sidney and I and we shared a quick glance before asking
"Uhm, mother?"
"Aphrodite? Is that why you're here? To sort out my love life?" I asked tentatively
"Well of course it is!" She whipped around, theatrically, hands up and face in a stress
"But Aphrodite, I really don't need your-" I began, my eyes closed and hands fisted
"di Angleo! You care in no position to say that your love life is fine! You are falling apart!" She grabbed my arms, pinning them to my sides "your father is so worried! Gosh he keeps flicking back to your channel on Hephaestus Tv just to check in on you!" She finished, pulling me into a hug
"Hang on a minuet-" I tried to say, a million things running through my head
"But of course no one else cares but your father and I do, and Persephone of course!"
"I have a channel on Hephaestus Tv!" Was all I managed to ask
"Well of course you do! How else is your father going to keep track of you?"
"Aphrodite," a sudden spark of genius hit me "do you have a mirror or something that would show me a channel dedicated to Will?" She smiled sweetly
"See! I knew you still loved him!" She was hugging me again and I kept saying
"Aphrodite, the mirror?" When she finally heard me over her wittering she nodded
"Well obviously I can!" She waved me off and from her inside pocket appeared a large looking glass, hand held mirror.
"When you want to see him, but say 'Will Solace' and to clear it, say 'thank you' and that's that!" She handed me the mirror and I refrained from saying his name right then and there and hugged her instead. Despite her flaws, Aphrodite could be pretty useful sometimes!
"Thank you, so so much!" I whispered to her
"Oh, darling your quite welcome!" She stroked my hair and my face before turing to Sidney and then looking back at me again
"If you weren't gay, and I mean thank the gods that you are! What would I have done with Will if you hadn't come out? But if you hadn't I would have quite the fun setting you two dears up!" She waved her hand between Sidney and myself, we looked at each other and laughed.
"Thanks again Aphrodite!" I yelled back as I ran up the grassy hill, which was already almost covered in snow
"Nico!" Sidney yelled back and I turned
"I still need to talk to you!"
"Come to my room! 501!" I yelled back before running off straight there.
