"So you and Geoffrey". Mr. Lang raised his eyes brows, without looking my way as we walked to the 'Green-House' which was where the Environmentals trained.
"Yeah," I sighed, not bothering to hide my misery
"Well, be careful." I looked up at him just as he looked toward me "he can be very, persuasive, and I can bet that he told you that he wants you with the Bat-" he coughed "I mean Mentalists" he smirked at me and I smiled too, it seemed even Mr. Lang hates the Mentalists.
We walked for a few metres and once we turned the corner we came to a wall of glass at the end of the corridor. We arrived at a double door way, made also entirely of glass with white metal swirls and flowered door handles.
"Woah!" I was utterly amazed. After all the dank and dark dungeons, this was a literal breath of fresh air.
"I know, I wish I'd had some sort of Environmental powers when I was here." I looked at him, but he shook his head, anticipating my question
"Can't say yet, it might-"
"Affect my choice of segment which is against the rules" I fished for him
"Yeah.... How did you know that? Those where like the exact words I was going to say..." Mr. Lang was looking at me, confusion spreading across his face
"I don't know. I just sensed it." I said, stepping forward and pushing the doors to enter the 'Green-House'.

"Nico?" She had short messy blond hair and long legs but when she stepped toward me to shake my hand, she was only a little taller than me.
"I'm Sidney Turner, head Enviromental!" Her smile was so bright I felt like I needed shades. If she was at camp, she'd would be an Aphrodite girl "it's my greatest pleasure to introduce my segment!" She stepped to my side and touched my arm
"I've heard a lot about you, I'm unsure which segment you will choose but we would be very grateful to have you with us!" I was instantly warming to her.
"Hello Mr. Lang!" She smiled at the teacher
"As always, it's a pleasure Sidney." He stroked her arm and I saw her flinch ever so slightly. "You've really made this place!" He waved his hand around the Green-House "Extraordinary..." He sighed, looking up at the frosted glass ceiling.
"Well, I wasn't just me, my flower girls and boys helped enormously!" When she smiled her eyes scrunched into small shining slits.
"Well, your in charge now." Mr. Lang handed the session to her, and I saw a glint in her eye
"Right," her tone changed from sweet and fluffy to hard and business like "we need see what you can do one the ground." She smirked
"With pleasure!" I already knew what to show them. I stepped into a red ring that was marked into the soil. As soon as I walked into the Green-House I'd felt a presence. Someone was buried here. I closed my eyes and detected him in the corner, I breathed in and went about raising him. The ground stared shaking and I could hear people gasp, but I carried on. It felt great to utilise my powers after having them restricted for so long. I could feel the corpse stirring under ground. But I was loosing him, it was out of my control. I feel to my knees just as I heard a high pitched scream, I looked up to see Sidney cowering under the corpse. He was tall, as I saw her face turn to me and yell something I heard her voice in my mind
'Whats going on, I thought I'd killed him!' I shook the words out. Had she just thought that? Had I just read her mind? This wasn't possible, but the zombie was leaning down and closing his hand around her throat, I jumped up and stretched my hand out and the body slumped to the floor again. I was breathing hard, my head lowered as my hand fell to my side.
"It's going to be okay, come on, let's get you to the hospital. Did you take your medication this morning?" Another girl and a boy were helping Sidney, who has been reduced to shivering ball of tears.
"Sidney?" I tried walking towards her, to apologise when another smaller blond girl stepped in front of me.
"Now we'll continue the assessment. We were all very impressed with your first demonstration, so please follow me upstairs for the second half" she was frowning
"But...Sidney, she was having like, a break down!" I yelled but the girl didn't seem to care
"Sidney is none of your concern, now please follow." She turned but I caught her arm.
"Did Sidney kill that man?" This just seemed to make her angrier
"SIDNEY HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THAT MANS DEATH, HE WAS VERY SELFISH AND LEFT US. HE LEFT HER TO RUN THIS ENTIRE SEGMENT ALONE!" As she yelled, the ends of her hair began to smoke and I swear I saw embers beginning to light. But as she took a breath, they extinguished.
"O-okay" I stuttered and then she smiled and I swear all the anger in her face disappeared. What was it with these girls and their supernaturally brilliant smiles?

I followed her up the stairs, it looked like and ordinary green house. There was no one else about.
"Well wait for Mr. Lang," she sighed, twirling gracefully in between all the plats and flowers but she was so careful not to touch any of them. I went after her to see where she was going but when she suddenly piped out of an exit to my left she stumbled and my reflexes kicked in and I caught her.
"Oh. My. God!" She struggled to get up out of my arms, "I'm so sorry!" Her cheeks went redder than ketchup and then her hands caught fire and she started patting them on her jeans. "God, I just can't control my powers sometimes!" I thought back to Ge's introduction speech to me about all the segments
"Kate Wickers right?" And she blushed even more
"Uhm, yeah!"
"Okay!" Mr. Lang ran in through the door, panting and doubled over. " Let's get the god damned assessment done!"
"Right, Nico! I need you to pick anything in this room and transform it or make it it do something." I began to panic, I hadn't expected this section
"Uhm, ahh!" I searched for something, and in the end I just grabbed a rock,
"Now, make something happen!" Kate nodded at me, trying to help.
"Uhhm...." I tried to summon the power I'd used earlier. That's when the rock became hot in my fist and I opened it and produced a sparkling white diamond the same size as the rock.
"Oh Wow!" Kate went to pick up the diamond. That's when I remembered Hazels curse
"I wouldn't." I scooped the diamond away from her. "My sister can do this but anyone who touched the jewels die... So I wouldn't touch it." She withdrew her hand
"Okay" the smile on her face was enough to show me I'd done well
"Very, very good Mr. di Angelo." Mr. Lang clapped and wrote on the clipboard. "That deserves nothing less than a 10!" I dropped the crystal as Kate jumped on me and hugged tightly.
"OH MY GOD! CANT BELIEVE IT!" I just laughed at her excitement, I laughed until I saw her burning hair
"Oh god! Shit sorry!" She extinguished it. "Sidney probably already said this but we'd love someone like you with us. You so amazing Nico, but go with your heart when you choose!" She kissed my cheek and with that we left the Green-House
"Well, well two tens out of three segments. Your turing into quite the new toy!" I rolled my eyes and Mr. Lang laughed. "If you keep it up the way I predict you will, everyone's going to be flagging you down. I know your assessments are meant to make it easier, but it looks like your not going to get the luxury. Have a long think about which segment you really want to go with. Which will you fight for?" He left me with that question, walking off down the corridor and turning at the last moment
"You're with AMA tomorrow! Their in the west tower, meet me after breakfast!" And with that, he was gone.
With the rest of the day off I decided to visit Sidney in the hospital. She'd seemed pretty awesome before the whole break down thing. Once I got there, I could see a few people hovering near a bed in the far corner. As I approved I saw it was Glen and Anna along with a couple of teachers and the mistress. Pr. Cloud looked bored and uninterested but the others were fussing about the pretty girl.
"Nico?" I heard and everyone turned to look at me, I manoeuvred my head round so see Sidney looking a little worse for wear. Her eye makeup was smudged in clumps around her eyes and her hair was a bush.
"Nico is that you?" I stepped to the end of the bed. And she smiled. "What score did you get?" I laughed and looked back up into her eyes
"A 10!" She breathed a laugh and clapped once.
"Just what I expected, I'm very proud of you!" Everyone was sharing their congratulations but Glen was standing at Sidney's head, glaring with her arms crossed.
"Sidney I'm so sorry, about what happened in the assessment! I had no idea that I could scare someone that bad...or raise such powerful memories." My gaze dropped again.
"Come here." She asked in a quiet voice, the crowd parted and I walked over to where her head lay. I stood face to face with Glen for a while before crouching and leaning my ear towards Sidney,
"You know what I did, don't you?" I inhaled "you read my mind!" But I nodded to her, leaning back in again
"I didn't even realise I could until I looked into your eyes." I whispered to her, that's when she pulled away and looked at me, eyes right in mine and I once again entered her mind
'You'll make a great Mentalist!' She whispered, I smiled at her as the tears ran down her cheeks and onto her neck, which then soaked her knit jumper.
"I'll go." I signalled to the door but before I could leave, she grabbed my hand,
"Thank you," I heard her think 'for not telling everyone' she was still crying. Once she let go of my hand I made a quick exit, before crumbling to the floor and sobbed myself.
