"Hey, so I'm sorry about earlier," Geoffrey apologised "just wanted to see what kinda stuff you were made of!" He touched my shoulder and I flinched, he didn't seem to be offended by that "your okay, right?"
"Yeah" I sighed "I'm fine."
"Okay well, these are what we all call the big gates. They are closed pretty much permanently during term, since were not allowed out of the grounds." We arrived at a large pair of iron gates that were about the size of a small house. There was a large lock at the bottom. I reached out and touched it, feeling my freedom slip away as I did so.
"Don't worry Nico, the grounds here are huge, you'll never even want to leave" he laughed, and hoped he was right. After the tour we headed back to our dorm where we hung out for a while before lights off, which was at 10:30. We where sixth year students which meant we had a little more freedom about lights off, but we still had to be quiet after 10:30.
"So what actually happens here, like, Cloud told me about people having powers and stuff but what does that even mean?"
"I can't really say yet, it's all going to come clear pretty soon, this isn't going to make sense but you'll get placed. Being placed means you'll get put into a team according to your ability and power. More is going to be explained tomorrow."
There were so many secrets and things I still had to learn, I was beginning to think that I didn't belong here.

"Rise and shine, di Angleo! It's a big day!" I heard Geoffrey shout from the bathroom I guess I'd never really appreciated the British accent until now.
"Hey Geoffrey?" I called as I got up and pulled some jeans, "what do I wear?" He stepped out wearing only a town that was tied around his lower half, I looked away immediately. Good god, why!
"Oh, business wear. You've got a lot of that right?" His accent ran in my ears as I gulped
"Yeah, I do." I replied curtly.
"By the way you can call me Ge and" I could feel the steam rising off his body, as he stood close behind me "I'm gay too." And then he wandered into the wardrobe. I collapsed back on my bed in a tangle of sheets, hyperventilating.
"This is going to be harder than I thought!" I whispered to myself as I picked a suit from my own wardrobe.
We emerged looking like grown business men, not like 16 year old students.
"Nice suit, dude!" I said to Ge, holding up my fist
"Hey, you too!" He said, bumping it quickly "this Italian?" He said rubbing my lapel
"Yeah." I said, admiring his perfectly quiffed hair
"Nice!" Then he looked at me, and frowned. He reached up and ruffled my hair. I don't know why I enjoyed it but I really did.
"No one wears their hair like Justin Bieber anymore" he quickly styled it and then turned me toward the huge mirror. It was true, my hair did look better styled up
"Do this tomorrow morning!" And then he left me and I followed like little puppy
"So where are we off to this morning?" He laughed
"Eager?" He smirked quickly "good, there's nothing worse than someone who doesn't want to be here. Once you get to know this place it's truly amazing! But right now we are going to breakfast-" as he uttered the last word, while fixing his tie, I saw Glen walking down the parallel stair case which lead to the girls dorms. She was wearing loose Khaki trousers and a tank top. Her hair was pulled into a low ponytail, I felt utterly overdressed.
"Really?" She laughed at me, she turned to Ge who was next to me "you've got him dressing like a Bat already!" She just laughed bitterly and walked off rolling her eyes. A bat? I turned to Geoffrey and raised my eyebrows
"Don't worry, it'll make sense soon! Come on!" He jogged down the rest of the stairs. As we entered the huge hall, I realised where we belonged. There was a table where a bunch of kids wearing suits and pencil skirts and other business wear. As we sat down, a bunch of people introduced themselves. They seemed nice that's when I notices the other four tables around us. I saw Glen and waved, she waved back but then her eyes shifted to Ge and she lowered her hand.

"Hey, what with the different tables? Are they like houses or something?" Ge laughed but then nodded
"Not really houses, more like segments. Since Morrowgan high welcomes pretty much all gifted students, we have to split them in order to help them achieve their full potential. These are the five segments." I took another look at the hall,
"Over there are the super jocks, or 'The Athletes'." Ge pointed to the corner. I could see the kids there wearing sporting clothes, and running shoes, it made me think of the jocks back at my old school, gods I hated those kids. "They basically have powers that make them physically more able that others. For instant, Henry Gelding can run faster than lightening, oh and Anna Hare is an angel, so she can grow wings and fly. It's pretty cool." I scanned the Athletes table and saw a girl wearing a hoodie with large holes torn in the back of her clothes.
"Then we have the witches and wizards or 'the spell casters'" they wore all black. That's all I could tell from their dress code "that ones pretty self explanatory, their just magical. It's kinda lame, they've got to use wands. Next to them is the greenies or 'Environmentals' they affect their surroundings, some do it by just simply walking past an object but others touch things and can change them" they were wearing loose, light coloured clothing. "For example, Kate Wickers, she can set things on fire by touching it. Or Misty Jones, she makes flowers grow by walking past them. Their powers generally don't work on people, but most of them have never tried on human subjects so don't aggravate them!" Some where smiling at me, but others look like they wanted me dead. Great!
"Your lucky, Nico. Mistress told me what you can do and it looks like your going to be sticking with us. We, are 'the Mentalists'. We use our minds to work things, for example Lisa here can set things on fire by looking at it, she's Kate's twin, but she turned out to be one of us and I, well I read people's minds and you're being pretty restricting right now. People call us the Bats, cause they decided we're scary and mysterious. We also wear all black or grey and train in the cave..." He looked at the table for a minuet and then shook his head
"What about Glen? Where does she fit in?" He looked up at me quickly and stared into my eyes as if trying to see something, but then looked away.
"Is she your friend?" He asked me, playing with his cereal
"Yeah..." I picked up that I should be cautious with that information, the way Ge had asked I made me think that maybe I shouldn't be
"Then I would turn it into a 'friends close, but enemy's closer' kind of friendship." Geoffrey looked at me and then over at Glens table
"What? Why?" I asked, looking over my shoulder at her too, then back at Ge
"Glenda Bell is part of 'AMA' the 'academically more able' group, but they prefer being called 'the Gamers'. They get all the attention, they're Morrowgans most loved. All they do, is sit around playing video games and designing softwear. We-" he swung his arms to the rest of the hall "use our bodies, and our real minds to make things happen. But they-" he pointed to the Glens table "they use their computer skills."
He sat back down and looked at me again "but we are going to make things fair again, just like it used to be!"
"So I'm one of you guys, I'm a bat-"
"It's Mentalist!" He corrected, angrily "and that depends. Your first week is used by training with each group for a week. On Friday you'll be given a suggested group, the one you did best in. But in the end the option is yours. You have the final say."
I took one last look around the huge stone walled hall, some kids from each table were looking back at me, this was my life now.
