After 37: Names
"Wow that was so much fun!" He cheered when we had finished the routine in front of the class.
"The most fun?" I asked cheekily and Phil nodded, he was flushed and out of breath. "Told you dance was great."
"Boy, you weren't kidding," he told me. "But you forget to mention it was tiring."
He fell to the floor in a huff and I followed suit as we watched the last performance.
I was a little disappointed when the dance was nearing to a close because I knew it meant that I'd have to go home. Staying at Chris's house was fine (I went away from Phils as I was worried I would get on his nerves and he'd realise he liked being friends with Alfie more than he liked being friends with me.) Still, I knew I couldn't keep it up and I'd have to go home at some point.
I sent my dad a text last night to tell him I was fine but I switched my phone off before he could reply with something that would make me feel guilty for 'running away'. I had never planned to leave for this long, I hadn't planned to leave for even a night but it's funny how things change like that. I had been gone for a week now. I didn't want to leave my friends and go back to my mum but I would have to at some point.
"Becky!" I stiffened. The dance was still going on but the voice wasn't hushed, it was loud and ear shattering (at least to me it was).
"Who's that women?" Phil noticed her and I could barely look at him, the floor was less intimidating.
"That would be my mum," I sighed.
"She looks very..." he bit his lip in thought.
"Snobby? Annoying?" I scoffed, either of those would work and more .
"I was going to say smart," he told me and I looked over to see her in her pencil skirt and collard blouse.
"That's one thing she isn't," I replied. No matter how smart she tried to look, she was only buisness smart - not family smart, love smart, emotions smart... nothing like that.
"Becky!" she called again and this time I sighed, I was about to turn around but I felt Phils hand gripping my arm.
"Don't listen to her, she's not calling your name," Phil told me but he didn't get it. She wouldn't leave if I didn't answer and each time she said the name I felt a little less like myself.
"To her she is..." I trailed off.
"It doesn't matter what she thinks, you answer to Dan. Okay?" His grip tightened on my arm and his eyes never left mine.
Wow he really is a completely different person to how I first saw him, was all I could think.
I sat with Phil and watched the final pair finish up. When it was over, Phil pulled himself up off the floor and gave me a hand up afterwards. I smiled at him greatfully and went to pull my hand away before realising he wasn't loosening his grip. I held onto it and he walked to the changing room with me, hand in hand. I suppose he was thinking my mum wouldn't bother us if he did that.
"Becky, why were you ignoring me?" My mum grabbed me by the arm, the rest of the class were nearly all cleared out and getting changed at this point. Miss. Chic was talking to a dancer and didn't pay attention to us either.
"I'm sorry," Phil said but he didn't seem very sorry. "There's no one by Becky here, maybe you have the wrong class?"
"I'm perfectly fine here," she snaps. "Come on, Becky we have stuff to do." She pulled at me hard so my grip on Phils hand loosened until we finally came apart. She stormed towards the entrance, she had my bag from the changing room with her... just when I thought she couldn't get any worse she practically steals my stuff and is forcing me home. Phil blocked the exit and glared at her.
"Dan and I have already planned a trip out after dance."
"Well it's been cancelled," she snarled at him and tried to push past but Phil wasn't budging.
"Why don't you let your son decide what he wants to do?" He exaggerated my pronouns and I wanted to smile at him in thanks but his attention wasn't leaving my mum.
"Don't be ridiculous," she shook his comment away but I found the strength to move away from her and joined Phils side.
"I'm staying with Phil!" I told her defiantly.
"Just wait until your father hears about this behaviour, " she huffed and Phil opened the door for her. She stormed past him.
"That was amazing, Phil!" I exclaimed and let out a relieved breath.
"You're very welcome my friend,
." he fake bowed but on return he looked worried. "Sorry if it gets you into shit."
"She won't tell my dad..." I trailed off. She probably would tell him but my dad would take my side, right? Regardless I couldn't worry Phil anymore than he already was so I quickly changed the subject. "Now I've got to think of a place to go to kill a few hours to get mum off my tail."
"Well... why don't we actually go out somewhere?" He suggested.
"Where are you thinking?"
And that was how I found myself heading into town with Phil Lester.

My holiday is fading away so quickly, only one more week of relaxation left! Hope you are all enjoying your time off from school/college etc...
