After 20: Act
I bought an icepack back and he placed it on his fake wound. We watched the rest of the routine together in an oddly comfortable silence. We watched as people turned to Miss Chics command - I watched and, out of habit, picked up on the routine so I would be able to practise it whereas Phil looked amazed. I was a little dissapointed he didnt give me that look when I danced. He looked like a little kid in a sweet shop and he probably felt that same euphoric, pre-sugar high you feel when getting to choice which sweets you want.
Finally, Phil spoke up.
"Damn, that tall kid is surprisingly light on his feet," he stated and stared at Jeremy. He was taller than me somehow but his stretched out legs and arms only seem to aid him in doing ballet that took me years to learn so he could do it in a few months. I was a little jealous of his skill set but I admired his dedication all the same.
"Oh yeah, he's been in dance since forever," I explained. He was there when Jessica still came here and he was sad to see her leave since he had a huge crush on her. I told him he deserved better than her anyway and that's when he met his current girlfriend, I can't remember her name. I come here to dance, not for gossip.
"You were pretty good though," Phil complimented me.
"Oh, um, thanks, Phil," it took me a second to realise what he was saying and when I finally did my cheeks flushed red. I've always had compliments off people for my dancing but never before had them saying it made me feel as good as when Phil told me. Friends, family, other dancers, complete strangers even had told me about how good I was but I somehow believed it more from Phil. He seemed like the type of guy who wouldn't give a compliment unless he meant it.
"You been dancing for a while?" He asked casually as he picked at a bit of fluff on his leggings.
"Since I was in primary school," I told him. I still remembered the day my mum first made me join, how much I complained that I didn't want to go but Jessica decided to join and encouraged me to go. If not for Jessica I probably wouldn't be sat here with Phil now and definitely wouldn't be one of the top dancers, not that I would thank her for anything.
"No wonder you're so good!" Phil dropped the piece of fluff and looked at me shocked before grinning.
"You could be that good too, if you don't fake an injury every session," I pointed out to him and he mock pouted.
"You helped me with this so don't pin it all on me," he said and gestured towards the icepack before half smiling, "but thanks..."
"Session over everyone!" Miss. Chic announced.
"Thanks for today," Phil told me and pretended to have a hard time getting up. He was a good actor that's for sure which for some reason made me feel nervous that all of today was just an act.
"No problem," I replied.
"I'll see you around..." He paused for a brief moment before saying a word I'd never thought would come from his lips, "Dan."
I stared after him as he walked into the changing room. That was the first time he had ever used my real first name without making it girly. What suddenly gave him a change in heart? Phil Lester is one mysterious character.
