Chapter 6
"Wow, Chase this is incredible." Skye marvelled at the sight of the boy's living room. The dark oak floorboards contrasted with the rustic stone fireplace that had been lit. There were plaid blankets draped over the couches and a faux fur rug on the floor. The scent of apple and cinnamon tainted the air from the five or six red candles, scattered about the room, casting a warm glow.
"Thanks, but I can't take all the credit." He chuckled, scratching the back of his neck.
"I don't care." Skye smiled. "You and the others did all this just because I was staying?" The boy nodded.
"I think Everest left some food in the oven for us. They went upstairs for their own date." The brunette surprised himself with his words but he was even more surprised when Skye wasn't fazed by them.
"I know this is gonna sound strange but can I use your shower? I didn't really wanna hang around home much longer while Zuma was still there." She smiled, her face glowing in the candle light.
"Sure. So you're still not talking?" Chase replied.
"No. Partly because I also gave him a pretty big bruise." The blonde admitted. Chase chuckled slightly.
"Remind me to never mess with you." Skye laughed before heading up the stairs to the bathroom. Chase smiled and sighed happily.
"I'd say y'all have a good chance there buddy."
"Jesus Christ!" Chase jumped around and saw his two friends who came out of their hiding spot - behind the sofa.
"He's right Chasey boy," Everest teased.
"Go. Now." Chase ordered. He followed the other teens up the stairs. "I need time to prepare myself." He muttered.
"Just from looking at her, damn Chase!" Marshall snorted.
"I mean get changed!" Chase growled back. "Idiot." The couple ahead of him laughed and went into Marshall's room while Chase quickly changed into some grey jogging bottoms and a black v-neck t-shirt.
After about half an hour, Chase was joined once again by Skye in the living room. Like him, she'd opted for some more comfortable clothes. A pair of black leggings with white stars on and a pale pink crop top. She was brushing her hair which was still a bit wet and tried to separate it into four sections. Chase laughed a little at watching her struggle.
"Need a hand?" He offered, sitting behind her.
"Please." She smiled, blushing a little. With no problem, the brunette quickly separated Skye's hair and put it in a neat fishtail braid. "I'm impressed." Skye admitted. "Then again, with horses I guessed you'd be okay at braiding.
"Well I also have a cousin, she's the same age as us but for a while she was my only friend so I got used to doing her hair." Chase said, sitting next to Skye again.
"Really?"
"Yeah. She's actually dating one of my friends now."
"What's her name?"
"Everest." Chase looked at Skye's reaction. Her jaw dropped a little and her eyes widened.
"No way!" Chase nodded. "You look so different! I'd have never guessed you were related."
"We get that a lot." He shrugged.
There was a knock at the living room door before Everest and Marshall wandered in.
"Don't mind us," Everest smirked. "There's no signal in our room for the TV." The two sat down on the second sofa.
"How convenient for you." Chase rolled his eyes with a laugh. Skye giggled.
"It's fine," she said. "It'll be like a double date." Marshall raised his eyebrows at Chase who smirked smugly at his best friend. The four settled down for some movies and snacks, a great start to a long evening.
