Chapter 3 - Intense meeting
"To Faridat."
The name passed through Melly's ears. The planet of Jewels, yes, like books always said. She had only seen it through pictures, but never in person.
"But", asked Melly, "How do you get there?"
Rhye looked at Chermion
Chermion smirked, she then held Rhye's hand, and Melly's
"Hold hands and form into a circle", instructed her, "Close your eyes".
Melly tried closing her eyes. As soon as she could only see black, she felt strong winds surrounding her. She didn't move afterwards, because if she did, she'd probably ruin the process.
"We're here!", said Chermion, excitedly, "I always like to land on the mountain, from there the castle view is a 10 out of 10"
"Wait, that fast?" – asked Melly.
"Yeah, take a look." – Chermion pointed her fingers at the place down the mountain. A huge castle, with an interesting architecture. Each side of it was decorated with gemstone beads, giving it a sparkly, shiny effect. Placed on top of the front gate was a golden crescent moon attached to a big clock. The tik tok sound could be heard clearly.
Melly couldn't believe in her eyes. All these years, she had been imagining how Faridat or Moonstone Kingdom would look like to her. Sometimes, in her dreams, she thought it'd look like a medieval castle, or these sorts of Arabian ones. This castle scenery blowed her expectations. Magnificent. A true beauty. Perfect view for a postcard.
She noticed the bridge connecting the border that was opposite with Moonstone's territory.
"You're probably wondering about the bridge", Chermion sat down next to Melly, "Precisely, Moonstone's and Sunstone's border were cut apart by the Labradorite river. They say that you can't swim through it. You'll drown at first attempt."
"What if that's just a way of hiding secrets?" – wondered Melly, "Who knows if there are things down the bridge."
"You got a point", said Rhye, "But that wouldn't really make a change to Faridat. Anyways, we need to get to that grand castle now."
"Something related to the ruby?" – asked Melly.
"Of course, we're gonna go see Chrissy. She's the one that keeps all the Moonstonian files"
"W-wait, hold on! You're telling me we have to meet that pigeon girl again?" – Melly's voice changed to an unsettling tone.
"Like Rhye said", Chermion put both of her hands on her hips, "She has all of the previous and current Moonstonian defenders' portfolios. You remember when I told you about the Moon Sceptor and its missing gems? They're associated and attached to the people that share the same representative stone as them. Once the warriors are lost, the stone will be lost too. Ruby is one of those."
"You suspect Ellery?" – Asked Melly
"Just an assumption" , Rhye came to Chermion and tapped her shoulders, "Oi, are we going down there or what? Could've been way easier if you let us land on the flat ground."
Chermion flustered a bit and she began to hold the other two's hands like she did before. This time, they all glow a purple light. Melly can feel her legs being taken away from the ground. Her body felt light.
In seconds, they were standing face to face with the castle's front gate.
"One reason for why I like to set myself on the mountain is to enjoy the sensation of levitating. That's the only type of magic Amethystians could do. Probably some Quartzians could do the same thing but eh, amateurs." – Chermion was proud.
"Show-off!" – laughed Melly
Chermion used her pin to open the gate. The smaller moonstone gem glowed in sync with the bigger one attached to the giant door. Slight beep. All set.
"Chrissy's office is somewhere on the second floor." – said Chermion
"Didn't she said she moved sometime ago? Now that I remember..." – asked Rhye
"Huh, oh wait! That's it, I forgot." – saddened Chermion
"We can ask people right? Like that girl over there" – Melly looked at the girl who was going the opposite direction as them, she was on a wheelchair.
"Sure we can, hey isn't that Hyacinthe? She's Chrissy's assistant!" – Chermion immediately ran to the yellow haired girl.
"Hya, Hya, we need to see Chrissy."
"Chermion, right? Sorry, she's in a meeting right now. Can you see her later? Things are getting quite intense inside." – replied Hyacinthe with a weak smile.
"Intense? Where?" – Melly popped up behind Chermion's back.
"Oh my!", startled Hyacinthe, "Uh, intense, in the meeting room."
"It happens all the time when Chrissy's there." – mumbled Rhye.
"I'm doing this without approval but can you come inside and help her? If not, the meeting will last forever." – proposed Hyacinthe.
"What? But-"
"Please", Hyacinthe clapped her palms in a praying pose, "I'm telling you, every problems are being put on her. She can't just solve them all, especially by herself. You'll see. Come with me."
Some few minutes later, Hyacinthe and the other three peeped through the window of the room. She was right, it really is intense in there, thought Melly.
"Quiet, one by one, your opinions!" – yelled Chrissy, standing on the podium.
A small girl raised her hand. She stood up:
"For the last time, I've had enough with sending letters talking about the same subject over and over again."
"You are?" – Chrissy raised an eyebrow in confusion.
"Min Chae-rin of the Phosphophyllite post office." – replied the girl with a strong voice, "Financial problems are getting worse, and I want to remind that to everyone. Our postal service is slowing down, families far from eachother can't receive their letters, all of this because you were, obviously, irresponsible."
"I already read your letters." – said Chrissy
"Then why didn't you reply? Is that the only reason to advocate yourself?"
"End of your line, next" – interrupted Chrissy
"Alric Anderson, Peridot and Shungite Medical Center", another person immediately continued, " Our hospital's herbs are used without permission. The sources reduced surprisingly. I suspect this is the doing of one of your team's defenders."
"No, none of us did." – assured Chrissy.
"Really? I have a feather right here and it matches with your wings." – Alric raised the feather , making Chrissy blush
"And she said I did things without approval" – said Melly, sarcastically.
Hyacinthe looked a bit disappointed, but who knows if she was sad because of her superior or the moonstonians. Maybe both.
"Next!" – yelled Chrissy. Alric didn't protest.
"I finally got the chance to speak", said a man with glasses, "This is urgent but nobody is willing to listen to this news at first."
"Apparently", coughed the General, "Everything is urgent at this point"
"Take some time to understand, General Kalandramaz", the man was uncomfortable by Chrissy's reply, "The Sceptor of Moonstone hasn't been fully retrieved for decades, and this, affects the territory's barrier."
Chrissy startled. She stood silent. Her face expression changed from tired and ignorant to shocked.
The whole conference room went quiet. They were worried, also.
Outside, Chermion murmured :
"It was predictable, and we couldn't do anything about it"
"What happens if the barrier is broken?" – asked Melly
"The Garnetians. They get in, they work on their plan" – Hyacinthe's voice started shaking.
Rhye sighed, she said that it was not anything simple to take back the lost gems. Not to mention if their owners survived or not.
"But that doesn't mean other moonstonians can blame Chrissy for everything", said Hyacinthe, "Well, was it a good idea to put a late twenties person in the position of a general? Absolutely not. But do we have any other choices? No! Sadly the others don't understand that, and they aren't even willing to know why things go on like this."
"That's terrible", said Melly, "The barrier and all that, how do we fight back the Garnetians?"
"We might not be the richest land on Faridat", answered Chermion, "But, we afford security systems by using real moonstonians"
"You mean... We use actual defenders to fight?! So it's not a big deal for a barrier to be broken?"
"What Chermion meant was", explained Rhye, "Even in the worst case, we will do our best and finish the battle, by using all that we have. The Garnetians will be scared, who knows?"
Melly let out a slight "oh", showing her acknowledgement. She tapped Hyacinthe's shoulder lightly, then asked:
"Hey uh, the thing you asked us at first-"
"Oh yes, right", said Hyacinthe, "Let's get in. But knock on the door first, act like there's something urgent you need to ask Chrissy. Well, I suppose you do have some requests, no?"
