Prologue
--
In reality, humans are weak. Yes, they have their smarts and they can build their cities and walls, but if Mother Nature wills it, they will all die. Earthquakes, tsunamis and floods, volcanic eruptions, blizzards and ice ages, droughts, diseases, tornados, wildfires, thunderstorms and so much more - the world has all of this in store. Death has no favourite child, but if there was one creature it loved to use the most, it would be the Harbingers.
Harbingers; said to be the physical manifestation of death in its many forms. Their only purpose is the destruction of humanity. Whenever one appears - an event known as an Abyssal Eruption - they are followed by waves of monsters hellbent on wreaking havoc.
But whenever humans are pushed down, trampled upon and backed into a corner, they fight back. As they say, "for every Yin, there is a Yang," so they created Champions - people with extraordinary fighting skills - to beat and kill these Harbingers and their forces.
The nature of this world has been like this since the very beginning. Push and pull, chaos vs order, humanity against the will of the Abyss, until one side would be left standing, that side having won the favour of the world.
The power of one person does not amount to much. You admitted to yourself, looking at the staff in your hands. But with what little strength I'm capable of, I will do everything humanly possible to protect the people I love. And in return, they'll protect the ones they love. It seems like the least us tiny humans can do for each other.
You reflect on everything that's happened; arriving in this world, the friends you've made, the Eruption that changed everything, the betrayals you've suffered, the times you or someone you love nearly died, and finally, the words that some one spoke to you long ago. "I fight for all that is beautiful in this world."
"I will change fate. I will turn this sad story into what I want and give it a happy ending!" Lifting your firm gaze. "That's my promise to her!"
The person you've come to know well stood proudly in front of you. She let out a short laugh, before her eyes turned cold.
"Die."
