chapter 13
Remus Lupin was always a shy, withdrawn child. When he was young, he would rarely go outside to make friends, or even try to make friends in general with children his age. He was convinced no one would ever like him for who he was or better yet, what he was. He lived in constant fear of a secret only those closest to him knew and accepted. But when he met the Marauders his viewpoint on himself changed. The three boys he was friends with. immediately became like brothers to him, family. Remus also had met Lily Evans in his first years at Hogwarts, mostly from hearing about her from James. Then he began to talk to her and the two became friends, sharing many interests that his other friends did not.
The boy would willingly admit that his best mates caused trouble, maybe more than they should. But he had never had two of his friends pretty much refuse to be around each other. Befriending Guinevere Avalon brought that upon him. Sure he didn't believe they truly hated each other, and he was very suspicious about the red lipstick stain, Remus still had to deal with the two refusing to be in the same room. The problem was Sirius and Guinevere were equally stubborn, so even if this "hating each other" thing was an act, they would not give up easily.
Remus decided to take his thoughts and concerns to James, who was also quite aggravated at the two teenagers. Since Guinevere refused to be around Sirius, that meant he couldn't be around Lily by default. So moody teenager didn't even begin to describe James Potter.
"We need to do something about Guinevere and Sirius" Remus pulled James to the side as they walked out of the Great Hall.
James nodded quickly,"We do, but how Moony?"
"I didn't exactly get that far Prongs" Remus paused rubbing his fingers on his temples.
"Well whatever it is, it needs to be soon. I'm having withdrawal" James groaned dramatically leaning on the wall.
"I think I might have an idea-"
"Have Lily and I go on a date? That would fix a lot of my problems" James eagerly asked pushing up his glasses.
"No mate, get them both to hang out with us... together. Maybe become friends?" Remus sighed exasperatedly.
"Or that" James shrugged, still thinking about his previous response.
Remus's wheels were now turning wildly inside his brain, formulating a plan to unite both his friends. It might have been for his own personal benefit... or the benefit of his friends, either way Remus intended for his plan to work. But in the time that Remus was forming his plan, James was on a entirely different train of thought, heading in the opposite direction. James's mind was back to DADA class a few weeks ago, where Peter had suggested that Remus and Guinevere fancied each other. The thought continued to fester in James's mind as he continued to think more and more about his friend and the blonde Slytherin that was stirring the pot.
If you had asked James Potter at the beginning of sixth year if he would have believed that one of his friends actually fancied Guinevere Avalon, the girl they thought they despised since first year, he would have called complete bullshit. But now he found himself questioning his prior belief. James Potter remembered the night Sirius came to the Gryffindor common room muttering his utter distaste for the girl, convinced that if he continued to know her, he and she alike would turn into what their families wanted, like it was yesterday. So from that point on trusting his best mate, he avoided the girl. His fellow Marauders had as well until that one fateful day in the library. Remus had befriended the Slytherin they had avoided for six years, and now James wasn't so sure it was just befriending the two had engaged in.
Remus, Sirius and even Guinevere were completely unaware of the thoughts running though James Potters head at that very moment, all focusing on their other personal problems. And even worse James was creating a plan of his own. He had decided that he wanted to know what exactly was going on between Remus Lupin and Guinevere Avalon.
