HetaOni Fanfic 2nd Year Anniversary Special (Part 1/6)
---HetaOni Fanfic 2nd Year Anniversary (Part 1/6)---
You began to read the new update by flamehazelollipop on her HetaOni (Hetalia x Reader x 2P!Hetalia) fanfic on deviantArt/Wattpad, realising that it was her special update for her fanfiction's 2nd year anniversary, based on the title of the chapter. Previously, she said that she would make a video for the anniversary, but since her laptop and PC were being such uncooperative little pricks, the Author decided that she would provide you with this instead.
She would also like to apologise for taking so long to post this, she has been quite busy with church activities...and has been mildly depressed whenever she is alone at home. It's something that normally occurs to a lot of people, so she doesn't want you to be too worried, instead, she would be happy to see you enjoy your moments with your loves later on. You wonder what the Author means by this. She won't spoil you, but she believes that you needed to be informed that this chapter is separate from the actual plot, so it should not be treated as canon in the fic.
This was supposed to be posted last October, but so many things had happened to the Author, such as frequenting the hospital and all. She already said that she would take a break from writing for a while, but being sick in bed brought her to finally work some magic out into writing.
As you scroll/click/tap on or through your phone/PC/tablet/etc, you began to wonder what the hell the Author was up to this time. Little did you know that the Author herself is also a bit lost on this, so you would have to bear with her in the meantime. You hear a socially-awkward potato from the Philippines shouting, "ahhh I hope you'd still like it, my dears! ;;;;" as she continues eating her ice cream.
You didn't really hear a voice in real life, but you read it so you heard either the voice you use to read mentally, the voice you think the Author would have, or your own voice as you read the words typed here aloud.
Going back to what you probably came here for, you continued reading the update.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*HETAONI (HETALIA X READER X 2P!HETALIA)2ND YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL*~*~*~*~*~*~*
You woke up, feeling a strange, desolate feel that wasn't all too bad...if it weren't for the fact that you were lying on the grass in front of a large, abandoned mansion which many had said to be haunted.
Getting up and dusting off your clothes, you look at your surroundings. It was without a doubt, the same mansion from the game HetaOni, which was the same setting of the fanfic that you were reading (and are still reading) just now.
Before you was a door slightly creaked open, leading inside the mansion. You knew of the dangers, the pain, the sadness, and the horrors that that not-so-simple game--HetaOni, can give you...and will possibly give you if you did dare to enter the mansion right now...
...but since it was up to you to decide, you placed a careful thought into it....
...and chose to take a deep breath and walk through the door (it's the morning of your very first day you say hi to your friends you ain't seen in a while....oh wait no x'D sorry).
As you entered the mansion, you noticed the door slam shut. There was no gust of wind, no other force that should've made the heavy wooden door close, but strangely enough it was sealed shut and you have no idea what to do. Deciding to give up on going outside now, you turned away from the door and was met with brown, nonreactive eyes from someone who seemed to become tense upon recognizing your presence.
"A-Ano..."
Fighting not to shout and freak out because oh my fricking god is that Japan as in Japan, Japan as in Kiku Honda, as in that Hetalia baby that people find so precious because he is the otaku spirit animal that thrives within us and is responsible for the animes that cause us to sin--Japan???
"Uhm, Japan?" you asked with uncertainty, trying to keep your calm because you'd probably scare him off if he sees you go full weeb for him. Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know, my dear.
Upon hearing his name, Japan nodded and gave you a small smile. "Yes, what is it, (Name)? I thought you were going to look for something with Prussia in the second floor?"
"Wh-" you stopped, realizing that you should just go with the flow since that's probably what the Author is trying to make you do. You pointed at Japan's occupied arm and hands. "Are you sure you don't need help with that?" Japan was carrying a large number of onigiri and cans of beer in one arm, and a plastic of different kinds of ingredients in the other. Where did he even get those, you wonder. Did the toilet finally upgrade into some sort of minimart? Wow, the Author must've taken so long to update that the toilet decided to expand its business with new merchandise.
Snapping you (or well, the Author, really) from your thoughts, Japan shook his head. "No, it's alright. I shall take these to our saferoom upstairs. Let's go up together, so you can look for Prussia. He might get worried if you leave him without notice for that long."
"...Alright..." you agree. As you two began walking up step by step, you lowered your head.
"Hey, Japan."
"Hai?"
"I think...I should leave."
Japan stopped halfway through his step and turned to you. "What do you mean by that, (Name)?"
"That's the thing, you know." You fiddled with your thumbs, feeling nervous. "You see, I'm not really the '(Name)' that you've met. The one you know and love is Reader-chan, not me. I'm not the one who's supposed to be in the story, it's the character of the Reader that should be. I'm merely the person who reads about that entity's story with you guys."
"...Does that change the fact that you are special to us, as well? I think not, (Real Name)-chan," Japan spoke softly, in the sincerest of ways. The raven-haired man led you to the top of the staircase and set down the food that he had carried onto the floor. Patting the top stairstep, he motioned you to sit beside him.
You followed and awkwardly sat down beside the Japanese man. "How did you know my real name?" you asked, a bit confused. Japan chuckled. "I believe you already know the answer to that," he responded. It took you a moment to process, but then you realize that it was really you all along who supplied him with your real name. You were the one reading this reader insert, after all.
"Oh."
Seeing as you have understood, Japan continued, "See? We've interacted more than you think, and," he pat your shoulder. "We've also met each other from the very start. You and Reader-chan may be the same person from different worlds, but you've been with us this whole time, for the past two years. And we very are grateful for that."
You couldn't find the words that would be enough to thank him for what he said. Japan started picking up his items and stood up. You stood up as well, your chest filling with warmth from his words. "Japan, I...well, thank you."
"There is no need to thank me, but I appreciate it. Now, I think Prussia is in that room over there, why don't you check up on him?" he told you as he started walking in the other direction. "When you're all set, come back to the safe room, alright?"
"Okay!" You smiled, starting to head towards the room Prussia was said to be in. Before you could get far, you heard Japan suddenly call out, "Oh, and (Real Name)?"
"Yeah..?"
"You do belong," he told you with that same, heartwarming smile before he goes back to the saferoom.
You do belong.
-=-=-=-
Once Japan was out of sight, you lightly wiped away the tears that formed in the corner of your eyes and knocked on the door before you.
"Prussia, are you in here?" you asked aloud as you slowly opened the door and peeked inside the room. You saw a man with silver hair wearing a Prussian blue uniform. When he heard you, he turned around. "Frau!"
His bright red eyes were shining as he beamed at you, holding up some sheets he must have gotten from the room. "You don't need to trouble yourself anymore, for the awesome me has taken care of taking the cloth that we needed! Kesesese!~"
It was taking all of your willpower to suppress your fangirl screams. What is this? What is this precious albino bundle of awesomeness doing before you, smiling at you and looking happy about your presence? Look at this handsome man who loves his younger brother so much, flashing you one of his smiles. What is this???
"Ahem," you cleared your throat, trying not to space out for too long. "I, uhm, hi Prussia...what are the sheets for?"
"What? Oh, you know what they're for! We all planned this together, didn't we?" he replied, but you crossed your arms and gave him the look. He laughed, and added, "Ja, ja. Okay, You don't really know yet, but you'll find out soon enough."
You sighed, feeling a tinge of sadness. What were they planning? Were you supposed to know beforehand or not? He said that you all planned this together, but it seems that it might not have been you, but the Reader in the story, who planned this with them. Somehow, your resolve earlier was chipping off slightly. You felt kind of left out, not knowing what was going on.
"Frau? What's wrong? You seem pretty quiet there," Prussia asked, concern coating his voice. You shook your head and told him that you were fine.
"Hey, you can tell us.. If there is something that you know you can't do alone, we're here. We're all here together. We can help you," the Prussian said, his normally loud voice lowered in a more soothing volume.
"Trust us, (Real Name)."
You nodded, giving him a genuine smile. "Thank you, Prussia. You're really awesome, you know."
"Kesesese! Of course, I am, frau!" he exclaimed happily. Opening the door for the both of you, he spoke, "Oh, wait, Italy is still upstairs, I think. Mind looking for him while I bring these to the safe room? Can you handle going there alone?"
"Of course, I can!" you beamed, feeling a little more confident.
Prussia raised one of his hands to ruffle your hair a bit in an endearing manner. "You're a brave girl, don't ever forget that, frau. No matter how difficult things might get for you out there, I know you'll be strong enough to overcome everything that comes your way," he told you, changing his gesture to a soft pat on the head. "Thanks for staying with us for the past two years, hope you aren't tired of us yet, 'cause I don't think our story will be ending so soon!"
"Thanks, Prussia." As you both walked out into the hall, the albino gave you a hearty push. It wasn't strong enough to make you trip, but it was strong enough to make you take a few steps forward. He didn't say anything. He didn't need to say anything.
You already knew that he believes in you with all his heart.
-=-=-=-
Peering through the library on the third floor, you saw a certain brown-haired Italian with a distinct curl sticking out on the left side of his head. Seeing you instantly made him bubble up with energy.
"Ve~ Bella! Ciao, ciao!! Where have you been? Are you alright? Would you like some pasta?"
You can't believe how unfair it is that Italy was actually a whole lot cuter in real life. Like he is so precious and sweet and he was fricking offering you pasta how great is that. It was so nice seeing Italy all happy like this, despite the setting being the mansion that put him through so much.
Smiling at the cheery Italian, you shook your head. "Thanks, Italy, I'm good. What are you doing here?"
"I just dropped a few tomatoes here, so I came back for them!" he said, cradling bright red tomatoes in his right arm. "Ve~ My big brother would want them, so I think if I bring these to him, he'll be happy!" The brown haired Italian began skipping towards the door, you slowly followed behind him.
"That's so great to hear, Italy!" you said, unable to match his enthusiasm for some reason. What is it with everyone, though? You were inside the mansion, and yet...the air around them is surprisingly light.
Why?
Was it all over? Was it something you missed? Did you fail to read an update or something? What's going on? It was all so confusing, and you didn't really know what to do, what to expect, what's happening, and why...
Why you were even here...with them.
They would give you reassurances, and you would feel slightly better afterwards, but it still doesn't explain anything. It doesn't shake off that lingering feeling that you shouldn't even be in this mansion in the first place. You didn't even know what was going to happen next. How could you be of use here? You don't know. You're...
You're useless.
You stopped.
And so did Italy. He noticed that distant look in your eyes. Back then, he didn't think it would look all too familiar--well, not until he saw the reflection that stared back at him when he faced the mirror earlier in the timeline. It was what made him figure out the reason why a dear friend of his asked a certain question.
"Ve.. Bella," he called for your attention, a gentle gaze in his amber eyes that was flickering with concern. "Are you....hurt somewhere?"
The question was quite random in your view and frankly caught you off guard, which caused you to give yourself a once-over to check if you really did have any injuries or whatnot that you failed to notice. After a moment, you let out a deep breath and found nothing physical that would trouble you. "...No, Italy. I'm alright. Thanks for asking."
Your answer didn't quite convince the Italian. He gave your arm a light squeeze as he lowered his head. "Look... I don't know what you're going through right now...but I'm here. Please don't be sad... I don't want to see you giving such a pained expression anymore..."
Yet another set of familiar words were thrown at you.
And you still, still do not understand.
Shaking off the Italian's light grip on you, you scoffed at his statement. "Hah... how could you even say that? You don't even know how I really look like! You don't know what kind of expressions I've been making! All we have are these useless words that don't even describe us in detail! There's nothing between use but these prewritten words by some other person that neither of us really know! Nothing!! I'm just.... I'm not really..... No matter how much I try..... you're...." You began trembling, alarming Italy. He rushed to your side and began soothing you by rubbing your back. "Ve...(Real Name).... I...."
Italy would've usually been frantic at these moments, wishing that Germany or Japan were aren't to help him with the situation. But he knew well enough, ever since he entered this mansion, that he could handle this. Especially if it was something that regarded letting a precious friend know how important they are to him.
The Italian pushed away a few locks of hair that was covering your face. You expected to see him with a troubled or annoyed expression because of your actions, but you were only greeted with a gentle and comforting smile.
"......Bella, do you remember the question I asked you earlier?"
"Question...?"
"I asked you if you were... hurt somewhere."
"W-Well, yeah. You just asked that a few moments ago..."
"Si. But...let me try rephrasing that question this time," he told you, taking a step back to face you.
Giving you the same caring smile that he was given by the friends he cared about, Italy spoke, "....Is there somewhere you want to be, (Real Name)?"
And the sadness hidden behind the fake mask of anger was shattered.
"Italy....I....
All this time, I just wanted to be with you guys... I knew that it was impossible--that I don't even have control over whatever happens to all of you but.....but I just....
I just wanted to stay with you guys, see if you're okay, think of how you'll escape in this story...but I.... but that's all I could do. That's it. That's all.
All I could do was wait for an update--read it when it's posted so I'll know if you're in any danger or if you're happy or sad or....or if you've escaped this mansion.
Update after update, I get to know more about you and the rest of the 1Ps and the 2Ps....but all I could do was read and wait. And wait. And wait!
I'm just here on the other side of the screen not being able to help you guys at all--no matter how much I want to help you. No matter how much I want to tell you that it'll be okay. All I could do was read about what happens. That's it.
I'm......I'm useless."
Tears sprang from your eyes and trickled down your cheeks seemingly lacking the intention to stop. You didn't even know you were harbouring these sort of feelings as you read about them. Letting them slip out like this, you didn't know if you should feel horrible, ashamed, or--
Before you could even finish your trail of remorseful thought, a large hand gave your shoulder a firm pat, giving you the feeling of reassurance. "You are far from being useless, frau."
Having a strong gut feeling on who owned the voice octaves lower than Italy's, you were slightly hesitant on turning around. Despite that, the man behind you continued to speak, "We know you're scared of what could happen, not only to yourself but to all of us, as well...
.....We're sorry. We didn't know you had these feelings bottled up inside you. We didn't even consider how difficult it had been for you. We apologise for not being being aware of your real feelings like this. But, you know, (Real Name)...
You're really brave.
You've helped us. You've guided us. Despite the fact that we didn't know you, you knew us. Even though we were all fictional from the world where you came from, you still grew fond of us. Having that courage to show compassion for people who you had no assurance of existence...it was enough to move all of us.
Just by being here, as yourself." Germany ended his speech by giving your hair a quick and gentle ruffle. You finally turned to face him, a grateful expression gracing your face; complemented with even more tears.
Italy nodded profusely, agreeing with his German friend. Catching your gaze, Italy smiled. "All this time....don't you understand, (Real Name)? All this time, you've been with us. All this time, you were there for us.
You're telling me that you're 'useless', but you're the complete opposite.
(Real Name), in this story, you have the most important role." Italy broke away from the embrace and raised your hands in his, giving you a glistening smile. You pause, then slowly lifted your head to meet his gaze. The expression on your face was still troubled and confused, but the Italian's actions had soothed you little by little.
"I...do?" you asked, trying to analyse what you could have possibly contributed to the story that was so important. You tried to think, but could only draw ablank. "...I don't have a role...Reader-chan does. But it's not...really me."
"You're here."
"What?"
"You're here...right now...with me. With all of us."
"I'm no--"
Italy firmly placed his hands atop your shoulders. "Bella, the mere fact that you're reading this right now proves how important you are to us."
You paused, waiting for Italy to continue.
"You're here. You're reading our story. You've been following our story, our adventure, our lives all this time. You've smiled with us. Laughed with us. Cried with us. You got angry for us. You even expressed how you felt by commenting on what we say, do. You've cheered for us all this time. You've exclaimed how much you loved us, how much you wanted us to be safe.
You loved us.
And I want to believe that you still do."
You felt a lump forming in your throat. This time, it isn't because of the feelings that you were suppressing. This time, it's because of all the feelings you want to express at the same time; making you feel like it could explode the moment you think of letting it out. Your legs gave away from the overwhelming emotions. Falling to your knees on the floor, the waterworks from your eyes began their display once more as you choked out, ".......I do. I really do."
Italy slowly crouched down beside you, wiping away the tears from your eyes. He didn't say anything, but the air between you wasn't thick nor was it tense. But your senses were enough to let you know where you really were.
You're here.
With them.
Well, that was until they suddenly disappeared before your very eyes.
"Wh...What....?"
The air in the hall were still once more.
The silence was ear-ringing once more.
And you.
You were alone, once more.
Until you heard footsteps behind you, causing you to abruptly turn around.
What you saw made your face grow pale.
