Immortal (DenNor)

((A/N: Titles. Someone help me. And again, five votes on "hey hey A/N" and I'll do a Q&A.
Oh also, slight angst))

He was immortal.
It was unknown how, but he was.
When his mother found out, she cried and screamed and demanded he be rid of, for he would stay young, and she would soon become old and grey. Her jealousy overruled her slight love for her child, which she didn't even want anyway, since he blocked her way from ever becoming Queen and ruling completely over the kingdom. His father, blind to anything but his wife's orders, obeyed, and just like that, Lukas was both immortal and without a home.
He fled to the woods, after years of living watching his friends die and get old while he stayed young and healthy.
He didn't want that anymore; he didn't want the heartbreak.
--
Matthias was a prince, with privileges aplenty, who could have anything he would ever want or need; anything from his wildest dreams, except the one cliche thing; to love freely.
Many a princess was presented to him, despite his protests of preferring men, and he rejected all, becoming bored and depressed at this continued cycle of unachieved true love and of his parents' deaf ears to his protests.
So he decided to take a walk in the ancient woods, which had been around years, and were the prince's favorite stretch of land, with so many creeks and mountains to explore, and all kinds of strange and fantastic creatures to examine, all of which seemed oblivious to the stretch of time, and forever remained healthy, or at least, that's what Matthias saw.
So he went hiking.
--
Matthias wiped the sweat from his forehead, panting a tiny bit before he continued onward.
The ancient forest was hotter than he remembered, and he had just run out of spring water from his canteen.
"Where shall I go now? It's much too hot to go back right now,"He wondered out loud, before he saw a neat, tidy cottage, that looked empty, and was the only thing in this forest that actually looked ancient.
He decided it would be a nice place to rest, and hiked up to this house, slowly opening the door, just to reveal a lovely sight.
A young, short boy was cleaning the house, his hair shiny beige, his eyes a striking and beautiful blue, matching and rivaling the stream water out below the house, and with fair, unflawed skin, his face emotionless except for a small beautiful smile that Matthias felt privileged to see.
Upon seeing the prince, the boy's eyes widened in shock.
"Who art thou, who cometh into my home without so much as a knock?"He asked, scared, and a bit agitated at the stranger standing in his house with pink on his cheeks, and jaw on the floor.
"Fear not, fair and beautiful maiden, for I mean no harm. I had thought thou cottage empty, and cameth for a rest."The prince said, a bit of stutter in his voice as he got down on his right knee and kissed the enchanting man's hand, which caused his cheeks to catch the pink.
"I am no maiden, traveller, much rather an exile, and you shall leave immediately, as I do not prefer strangers."The boy said, the stutter catching in his voice.
"Very well, enchanting sir, but may I at least have thou name?" The prince asked.
"As long as thou name is given in return."
Matthias stood up and smiled sweetly at the enchanter, bowing before him.
"I am Prince Matthias Køhler, of the kingdom next door, and I am at your service, dear enchanting soul."
The enchanter's cheeks lit more, and he did a small curtsy, deciding to humor his wishes of being able to call him maiden.
"I am Lukas, of no title or surname except Exile, and I do not wish the service of anyone."
"Why, of course, for such a beautiful soul must have thousand captured by the heart and at thy will."Matthias said charmingly.
"Not, for you are the only one to offer in thousands of years." Lukas said quietly, as Matthias stood.
"Said promise is promise, and I will leave you today, my enchanting maiden, but please, do not forget me."Matthias smiled.
"How could art?"Lukas let a smile alight his cheeks, Matthias's confidence in himself going up tenfold at getting him to smile.
--
And again, Matthias was in the woods, with a gift for the enchanter Lukas,as he seemed unable to get items for his poor cottage, and, with a somewhat large pink upon his cheeks, grinned upon finding the cottage, and knocked upon the door.
"Come in, thou prince, for I know it be you, as no creature bothers to knock, especially not as loud as a shrew,"Lukas sang, an exasperated smile upon face, cleaning an old periwinkle vase, as the prince entered and, with surprise from Lukas, placed three lilies into the said vase from behind, Matthias not daring to place his hand on the slim waist, though he wanted to.
"Why have thou cometh again?" Lukas asked quietly.
"For your charms kept my heart here, enchanter." Matthias said, a soft smile upon face as Lukas turned around to face him with solemn.
"I am not worth it."Lukas replied.
"You are worth every star in the sky, fish in the sea, animal in the forest, and every cent of money."Matthias said, smiling.
"Art thou very determined."Lukas smiled, pink covering cheeks.
"Tis thy power of love."Matthias said as he took his hands.
"Thou will have to try very hard to unlock thy heart."Lukas warned.
"Shall be worth it."Matthias smiled.
--
And from then and on, a love sparked. Matthias never failed to visit every afternoon, day in and day on, and despite his mind's warnings, despite him knowing it would end in tragedy, Lukas let himself fall in love, and their relationship only grew and grew.
"Come in, thou prince, for I know it be you, as no creature bothers to knock, especially not as loud as a shrew,"Lukas called, and he smiled softly as he heard a hearty laugh, and the door open as two strong arms wrapped around his waist.
"Good afternoon, enchanting maiden. Your beauty still hasn't diminished."He whispered in his ear, and Lukas let a pleasant chill run down his back.
"You should know why." Lukas said, pretending to be annoyed as Matthias's hands rested on his hips, and when his lips danced upon his neck, when in reality he loved it.
"That I do, art thou goddess of beauty."Matthias hummed, leaving a red mark on the soft, pale skin, flawing it for the first time in Lukas's thousands of years on earth.
"Does thou allow me into your bed? Thou can chastise, yet again."Matthias whispered, as Lukas took a step back into his arms.
"Doth chastise too much, I shall allow."Lukas sighed, happiness ringing through it as Matthias led him a slow dance to bedroom chamber, their lips touching gently as they fell into the blankets, and into love-making.
--
"My kingdom worries, but I shall ask a single favor before I am to leave."
Another round of lovemaking so many years later, with stubble growing on the Dane's chin, he sat, putting his robes back on, as Lukas sat with the blankets covering him, resting on his prince's back.
"Yes, my sweet prince?"Lukas asked, face stoic, except for the smile that made the prince proud of himself to this very day, despite the many times he'd seen it.
Matthias placed his shirt back on, and bowed before him on his left knee, and kissed his hand once again.
Under the borough of flowers that filled the cottage, flowers coming everyday from the prince, Matthias proposed his love, and Lukas, tearfully, was forced to refuse the engagement.
He would be called a witch, and would be forced to watch his love die up close.
And he explained this to him, and Matthias understood, but protested, giving him a plan for escape, and Lukas surrendered his worries to love.
--
And he led the boy out of the ancient forest, and everything started to age once again, and was led to the castle and presented, and, with the prince's insistence, was made a queen.
Many a stake was raised, many a "Witch!" was thrown, but the Dane always put them down and fought furiously for his wife, and they should live happily ever after, but that would never be the case.
--
A knock.
"Come in, dear wife, for I know it be you, as no one bothers to knock, especially not as quiet as dew." Matthias croaked.
His hair turned grey, and wrinkles everywhere, he had aged, but Lukas remained as beautiful as the day they met.
"Matthias..."Lukas tried not to tear up, upon seeing his love upon his deathbed.
'You shouldn't have let him in. You knew this would happen.' He thought.
'But... it was worth it. It was so, so worth it.'He thought as tears poured out freely, and he cried, throwing himself upon Matthias, as Matthias held him close.
"Don't cry, beautiful maiden, you know it hurts me to see you sad."Matthias said gently.
"B-but... you're dying... I don't want you to die!!"Lukas sobbed.
"Tis life... I... I love you, so much...and I always will... Don't dwell over me, Lukas, your happiness in mine..."He took his last breath, and then, the king moved no more, and Lukas shook his shoulders, eyes wide in horror.
"Matthias? Matthias? No! No!! You can't! You liar, you said you'd always be there!! Wake up, please! Matthias!Matthias! MATTHIAS!!!"
--
Lukas fled that night.
This was their plan, for him to retreat back to the forest, but tonight, he fled from grief.
He had been more than fifty years since he had last been to his cabin, and he broke down, because all the cut flowers that covered the in and out of the cottage, the ones Matthias brought him everyday, were still fresh.
