Chapter 10 - The 'Ocean' 'seas' your troubles

The human race has only ever explored less that five percent of the ocean, but we have been able to produce maps of both Mars and the moon with more details than the ones we have of the bottom of the ocean. The ocean is an essential and highly vulnerable ecosystem that occupies more than seventy percent of the earth's surface, yet something that isn't physically on our planet seems to captivate more attention than the mysterious ocean depths; why no love for the Big Blue?

It's almost like your fascination and love for beaches and the ocean is apart of your DNA structure, again this is why your dad always calls you a 'beach babe'. Except you preferred being called a 'marine biologist', which was because that is what you wanted to become and study. Back in (country of origin) your house was right by the beach, which meant you grew up with sand in between your toes and the ocean breeze filling your nostrils. All your brothers enjoyed the ocean as well, however your second eldest brother, Reece shared the same fascination for it as you; you'd both planed to become marine biologist together and start a reef reservation in your home town.

You can't resist the ocean, that's why your currently going for a morning jog down the beach right now; watching the sun emerge from out behind the horizon. Each time your bare foot comes into contact with the moist texture abundant filled sand, squishing in between your toes you feel even more alive after each leap; flooding you with the same adrenaline and emotions you felt when you raced all three of your brothers down the beach all four of the (last name)'s were raised on. As your legs slowly began to weaken and fatigue set in you stopped in your tracks and threw your arms up in the air as you took a deep breath in and fell on the sand with your back perfectly moulded into the sand. Your (e/c) eyes glimmered from the soft sun rays reflecting off them as you watched the few clouds float by; one of your legs were supporting the other which was slung over the knee cap and bouncing to the rhythm of the waves crashing. Your head was resting on top of your hands with the fingers being intertwined, your elbows where spread out; basically you were cloud watching on your back with your whole body dispersed everywhere. A sudden thought hit you and with that you were sitting up, holding two fingers out in front of your eyes and in the direction of the sun trying to gage a rough estimate of the time. A black human figure riding the waves off the shore captivated you, they were very skilled and made surfing appear almost effortless; you of all people know that it is very difficult, keeping balanced is a task in itself. You sat there for a few good minutes watching the stranger surf and lapping up the ocean breeze flowing through your hair; then the person began to paddle up onto the beach. NO! NO! NO! You don't what to leave the beach just yet, but on the other hand you didn't want to socialise either. Thought after thought, opinion after option; you were lost in your subconscious, trying to scheme up what to do. Something unwanted yanked you out of daydreaming, then you looked up.

Jett: shadowing over you
G'day! Your an early bird too, eh?

A boy covered in water droplets and wearing a pair of faded navy blue board shorts with a surfboard snugly in between his arm smiled down at you. He had emerald green eyes and a pair of bushy eyebrows to complement them, also messy dripping brunette hair with two cow licks beside each other; if you didn't know any better, you'd would of sworn that he was Alfred and Arthur's child, just missing the blondie gene. He also wore a bandaid over the ridge of his nose, maybe that surfboard of his has struck him a few times in the face.

Jett: pushing his surfboard into the sand to stand up on end
So...
Not much for words I see, it's a'right. Mind if I sit here?

You looked down to where he was gesturing and then back up at him again, with a blank expression engulfing your facial features. Something that appeared like a small nod of your head allowed him, but in all truth that was actually your neck mussels tensing up from your nerves; it wasn't worth explaining that to him, he seems rather happy being granted the right to sit next to your 'brilliant presence'.

Jett: sitting next to you and looking at the ocean
So ____, how are ya enjoying International Seas?
Miss anyone? I know how hard it's to leave behind loved ones...

You looked at him, but were too afraid to say anything? He seems very... Lost? Heartbroken? Lonely? Umm, how does one explain the emotion someone they barely know is dealing with this current moment.

You: mumbling under your breath
You do?

In a flash you covered you mouth and looked away, but a small giggle reassured you and you turned around to find him smiling at you.

Jett: softly nodding
Yeah, I do. I miss my country, I miss my pets, my family, food, Aussie lingo, friends, how on the weekends I would catch the Saturday morning cartoons, sports, how my dad yelled out his lungs during every AFL game, a-all that.
But the thing I properly miss the most is my baby sister. I only ever got to know her for about a year and then when I turned five, I left Australia for here.
From what I remember about her she had beautiful brown hair and big full amber eyes, her name is Wendy and would be thirteen now... I have no idea what she looks like now, haven't even seen a picture of her in eleven years.

Wow. That blew you back a bit, he seems so passionate about his homeland and family. Honestly, you couldn't imagine living that long knowing you had a sibling out there and not knowing a single thing about their life; this is his reality.

You: sighing
I'm sorry, I couldn't imagine going that long without seeing or even talking to my brothers.

Jett: patting you on the back
Don't sweat, everyone here has similar sob stories. We've all left our homes and families behind. In my opinion this whole island and school idea is inhumane, just plan cold; I'd would have given anything to watch Wendy grow up and be by her side.

You: opening up
I completely agree!
I want to be home right now and being squished in a dog pile by my three brothers over the tv remote.

Jett: gesturing with his hands
Tell me about them.

You: shrugging your shoulders
Well Lachlan, aka 'Lockie' for short is 21 and is training to become a professional soccer player, he's the eldest.
Reece is 18 and is in his last year of high school, he wants to study marine biology later, along with me. He's the second eldest.
I'm the third child, but I'm not important right now.
Finally is our baby brother Adrian who's 12 and is basically gifted with the power of music.
They all look rather similar to me, so yeah, same eyes, hair, skin... Except total extroverts.

Jett: getting up
You know, if you like music too, you should check out the music room or I can take you out to the soccer fields. (Pointing at his surfboard) Or we can shred up a few?

You: getting up
I'll keep that in mind... What's your name sorry?

Jett: walking away and carrying his surfboard
Jett! Bye Little Miss Chatty!

You held your breath for a quick second and thought about what he said, but soon realised that you misheard him. You too began to walk back up to your dorm to prepare for breakfast; you almost had a heart attack when you thought he called you 'Little Miss Cyber'.

==================================================================================

I honestly couldn't think of anything for the title... Again, sorry but at least it kind gets the job done so, yep...

Jett = Australia (not his official name)
Wendy = Wy (not her official name)

Fun fact:
IM DEATHLY AFRAID OF THE OCEAN!
Seriously, I don't even like fishing there, only fresh water lakes and streams for me; deep sea fishing is off the table! XD

Thank you for reading!
