Narrator's POV

'Warmth,'  Ludwig thought as he felt the warm body next to him cuddle closer, only making Ludwig's arms tighten around the smaller body.  Slowly, Ludwig opened his eyes and gazed at the beauty sleeping beside him.

Long wavy golden hair matched with blue eyes that were still closed.  Soft creamy skin and soft looking lips.  To say that Francis looked like a god would've been insulting, for Francis looked far better than any divine beauty ever could.

"Are you going to spend all morning staring at moi?"  Francis said, a playful smile on his face, snapping Ludwig from his thoughts.  Ludwig blushed.

"Nein, its just... jou look so - nein - umm..."  Ludwig was at a loss for words but this only made Francis let out a melodious laugh.  Francis leaned in to give Ludwig a quick peck on the cheek before pulling back.

"Merci mon amour~"  Francis said, knowing that Ludwig was probably trying to compliment him.  Ludwig's cheeks only darkened.  Francis just chuckled and shook his head, his golden tresses bouncing as he sat up.  As if on cue, soft crying could be heard, making both males turn to the nearby crib.

"Ludwig, could you-"

"Ja, already on it,"  Ludwig said, cutting Francis off as he got off of their bed and walked over to the crib, picking up their 7 month old son Matthew.  Matthew stopped crying upon being picked up by his Vati, instead looking up at Ludwig with teary eyes.

"Shh Matthew, jou are okay."  Ludwig cooed softly, gently rocking Matthew as he walked back over to Francis.  Francis reached his arms out, gently taking Matthew into his arms from Ludwig's and leaning back onto the pillows.

"Good morning mon petite bébé,"  Francis cooed softly, gently bopping Matthew on the nose, making Matthew erupt in a fit of giggles, grabbing Francis's finger.  Francis chuckled and let Matthew be as Ludwig rejoined him on the bed.  Ludwig placed a quick kiss on Francis's and Matthew's foreheads as he wrapped his arm around Francis.

"Danke Francis,"  Ludwig said.  Francis looked up at Ludwig and smiled before placing his attention back on their young son.

"Je vous en prie [You are welcome],"  Francis said as the small family started to get ready for their day.

----------- Time Skip to Breakfast -----------

"Ludwig, I don't zhink Matthieu wants to try eating zhat yet,"  Francis said in an amused voice as he watched his husband trying to feed Matthew wurst.  Ludwig shook his head defiantly.

"Nein, he vants to."  Ludwig said, trying to get Matthew to eat a small piece but instead of eating it, Matthew turned his head away and made sounds of protest.  Francis sighed and placed his napkin down on the table, finally deciding to go rescue his little baby boy.

"Matthieu~"  Francis said, getting his son's attention.  Matthew made grabby hands at Francis who took him out of his high chair.

"Francis, jou should sit,"  Ludwig said.  "Jou know zhe doctor said jou still need plenty of rest after having carried Matthew."  Ludwig said, sounding like a mother hen.  Francis gave a soft chuckle.

"Oui 'e did say zhat,"  Francis said, sitting down with Matthew on his lap.  "'owever, 'e said zhat I only need to get bed rest for a month after Matthieu was born, not 7 months later."  Francis said, getting Ludwig to shake his head.

"Ja but-"

"Non, no buts Ludwig,"  Francis said, waving a finger at him as Matthew giggled happily.  Matthew then looked at Francis's plate and started whining.  Francis looked down and saw Matthew making grabby hands at Francis's delicious pancakes.

"Oh~?"  Francis lifted Matthew up and looked him in the eyes.  "Does mon petite bébé want to try Papa's pancakes~?"  Francis asked in a silly baby voice.  Matthew smiled and clapped his hands as Ludwig's eyes narrowed slightly.

"Nein, he is too young and zhose are not good for him,"  Ludwig said, arms crossed.  Francis flashed him a puppy dog eyes look and turned Matthew to face him.

"Can you say non to zhis face?"  Francis said, holding Matthew up to Ludwig.  Matthew seemed to take a cue from Francis and began fussing as Ludwig looked at him.

"... n... ne... Okay fine,"  Ludwig said, giving up on saying 'no'.  "But if he has to go to zhe doctor zhen-"

"Mon petite bébé won't get sick."  Francis said.  With Matthew carefully sitting on his lap, under the watchful eyes of a very overprotective Ludwig, Francis cut a small piece of his fluffy pancake and dipped it in maple syrup before carefully bringing the fork over to Matthew.

"'ere comes zhe yum-yum train~"  Francis said.  Matthew giggled and opened his mouth, his hands holding the fork that was going into his mouth.  Both parents watched as Matthew tugged the fork out of Francis's hands and kept it in his mouth, seeming to enjoy the pancakes.

"See, I told you 'e would be fine,"  Francis said, taking the fork back from Matthew and now cutting a piece of pancake for himself.  Though, just as Francis was about to put it in his mouth, Matthew began crying.  Francis put the fork down.

"Zhen vhy is he crying?"  Ludwig asked, a smug look on his face.  Francis shot him a small glare as he picked Matthew up and rubbed his back, but Matthew squirmed, trying to face the table.  Francis, seeing this, turned Matthew around so that Matthew faced the table and watched, amused as Ludwig's jaw dropped, as Matthew reached for the fork with the piece of pancake on it and put the pancake piece in his mouth, smiling as he chewed it with his few teeth.

"Because mon petite bébé likes sweet zhings~"  Francis said, answering Ludwig's earlier question.  Ludwig placed a hand on his head and rubbed his forehead.  Francis just chuckled and cut some more small slices of pancake for Matthew, feeding it to him as he made happy baby noises.

----------- Time Skip to Midmorning -----------

The small family was sitting in the playroom that Ludwig had worked so hard to have made for Matthew.  Matthew sat on the floor, his parents in front of him.

"Matthew,"  Ludwig said, holding up a flashcard.  "Can jou say 'apple'?"  He asked.  Matthew tilted his head as he stared at his Vati.  Francis placed a hand on Ludwig's shoulder.

"Don't you zhink it is too early for 'im to be talking?"  Francis asked.  Ludwig shook his head.

"Nein, zhe sooner, zhe better."  Ludwig stated.  Francis sighed and looked at Matthew who had fallen onto his back and was now more interested in his foot than in Ludwig.  Francis glanced around and saw a little red ball and picked it up, rolling it to Matthew who looked at it curiously.

Francis watched as Matthew reached for the ball and held it, looking at it curiously before throwing it down on the ground so that he could wiggle about, trying to sit up.  Eventually, he did and looked at the ball, still blocking out Ludwig.

Francis reached for the ball and rolled it towards Matthew.  Matthew clapped his hands and giggled, rolling the ball back.

"Good job Matthieu,"  Francis said encouragingly, taking the ball and rolling it back to Matthew who seemed to enjoy this more than listening to Ludwig.  Ludwig saw this and sighed.  Francis glanced at Ludwig and decided to roll him the ball instead.

Ludwig felt this and looked at the ball, glancing at Francis who nodded with a smile.  Ludwig then rolled the ball over to Matthew who laughed happily, making Ludwig smile too.  And so, the little game of catch continued for a while longer, making Matthew very happy.

----------- Time Skip to After Lunch -----------

Ludwig watched as Francis rocked Matthew back and forth on the rocking chair, Matthew trying to keep his eyes open but failing as Francis hummed a soft tune.  Eventually, Matthew fell asleep.  Francis carefully stood up, walking over to the crib, gently tucking Matthew in as Ludwig kept the curtains closed.  The two parents quietly walked out of the nursery and softly shut the door.

"Francis,"  Ludwig said in a soft voice as the two walked away from the nursery.

"Hmm?"

"How do jou do it?"  Ludwig asked, stopping.  Francis stopped and turned to face Ludwig.

"Do what?"

"Just, zhis whole parenting stuff."  Ludwig said, sounding frustrated.  Francis let out a sigh through his nose.

"It just comes naturally mon amour,"  Francis said.  Ludwig let out a sigh, placing a hand on his forehead.

"For jou, but not for me,"  Ludwig said, walking into the parlor and sitting down on the sofa.  Francis joined him, sitting beside Ludwig.

"Can you elaborate?"  Francis asked.

"Matthew just seems to respond to jou more,"  Ludwig said.  "Vhatever jou eat, he vants.  Vhatever jou begin doing, he vants to do.  But vhenever I try to do something vith him, he doesn't vant to do it at all."  Ludwig said, hurt clear in his voice.  Francis pulled Ludwig into his embrace.

"Mon amour,"  Francis said in a soft voice.

"Francis, I've read all zhe books and vatched all of zhe videos, so just vhat am I doing wrong?"  Ludwig asked, desperate for the answer.  Francis frowned and forced Ludwig to look him in the eye.

"Ludwig, you 'ave done nothing wrong,"  Francis said.  "Parenting is not always going to be like zhey say in zhe books or on TV.  Every person is unique, regardless of age, so sometimes you need to stop going zhe normal path, and instead go a different way.  You just need to figure out what zhat path is for you and Matthieu on your own."  Francis said, sounding far wiser than his years.

"Ja,"  Ludwig said, breaking the silence.  "Jou are right Francis."  He said, wrapping his arms around Francis, pulling his omega husband onto his lap, hugging him tightly.  Francis just cuddled back.

"Now, you can try zhis after Matthieu finishes 'is nap, oui?"  Francis said, looking up at Ludwig with gentle eyes.  The corners of Ludwig's mouth twitched upwards.

"Ja,"  He said, nuzzling his face into Francis's hair.  Francis hummed and let their cuddle session continue as the new parents got a little alone time for  themselves.

----------- Time Skip to Later in The Afternoon -----------

"Matthew, do jou vant to play vith zhis?"  Ludwig asked, holding up a stuffed polar bear that Matthew was fond of.  Matthew looked up and made grabby hands.  Ludwig glanced at Francis who nodded, letting Ludwig know he was doing a good job.  Ludwig gulped and gave Matthew the bear, hoping that Matthew wouldn't lose interest or begin crying.

Both parents watched as Matthew hugged the bear close, causing him to fall forwards onto the bear, though with him giggling, both parents knew not to worry.

"See, I told you it is easier if you don't use zhose parenting books."  Francis said, sitting beside Ludwig as they watched Matthew play around with the bear.  Ludwig nodded.

"Ja."

"So, what should we 'ave for dinner?"  Francis asked.  Before Ludwig could answer they heard Matthew start to make strange sounds.  Both turned and watched as Matthew seemed to concentrate on trying to say something.

"Come Matthew, jou can do it."  Ludwig said, wanting to hear his son's first words.  Francis just smiled as Matthew concentrated harder.

"P... pa...n..."

"Is he trying to say 'papa'?"  Ludwig questioned.  Francis shook his head, a knowing smile on his face.

"Non, 'e is trying to say-"

"Pancake!"  Matthew shouted, causing Ludwig to place his hand on the bridge of his nose.

"Of course his first vord is going to be 'pancake'."  Ludwig mumbled under his breathe as Francis picked Matthew up off the ground, holding him up in the air.

"Très bien mon petite fleur!"  Francis said, making Matthew giggle and laugh as Francis covered his face in kisses.  Ludwig stood up too and patted Matthew gently on the head.

"Good job Matthew,"  He said, a smile appearing on his face as Matthew grabbed his finger.

"Well, I'll go let zhe cook know zhat it is breakfast for dinner."  Francis said, placing a kiss on Matthew's nose before handing him to Ludwig and heading out of the room.  Ludwig looked down at Matthew who looked up at him with big doe eyes.

"Jou are just so..."  Ludwig let himself smile as he lifted Matthew up, gently nuzzling him.  Matthew let out a squeak of happiness, his small hands trying to hold Ludwig's face close.

'Maybe zhis parenting zhing isn't so bad at all,'  Ludwig thought to himself, holding Matthew close, not knowing that Francis was watching from the doorway with a camera and a soft smile on his face.

~Fin~

That was so much fun to do!  I wouldn't fully mind making this its own book.
