Narrator's POV
Francis hummed as he put the finishing touches on his suit, grabbing a freshly cut red rose to place in the button hole. He turned to the mirror and grinned at his reflection.
"Zhere now, I look perfectly-!" Francis was cut off by a sharp ache in his chest, causing him to lurch forward in pain, his hand clutching at his heart.
"Urk! Z-zhat 'urt," Francis murmured to himself. He waited a few moments, holding onto the edge of a nearby table in order to support himself. Eventually, he felt better, and slowly righted himself as he looked in the mirror.
"Come now, zhis is probably just nerves," Francis told his reflection. "After all, mon petite lapin will skin zhe fabulous moi alive if anything goes wrong as we renew our vows."
----------- Meanwhile ------------
Arthur sighed as he sat anxiously in his preparation room, Alfred and Matthew quickly noticing.
"Dad, something wrong?" Alfred asked bluntly. Arthur glanced at him before waving him off.
"No... It's nothing," Arthur said.
"Dad..."
"Oh alright," Arthur said with a sigh. "I just feel like something isn't quite right."
"A-are you worried a-about Papa?" Matthew asked, getting a nod from Arthur.
"Yes, more than I would like to be," Arthur said.
"Why's that? He seemed fine this morning," Alfred said, making Arthur shake his head.
"No, it's just, we broke a law of nature," Arthur said. "That's a rather bloody big thing to break, especially laws of life and death. Even if we did do a life exchange, I just... I can't help..." Arthur groaned as he bit his lip in frustration, making Alfred and Matthew exchange looks with each other.
"Dad, just chill," Alfred said, patting Arthur's back. "I'm sure whatever's bothering you is probably nothing, so just like enjoy the day dude!"
"I'll try," Arthur said, giving Alfred a reassuring smile. Just then, Matthew received a text message.
"P-papa's here," Matthew said, getting Arthur to stand up from his seat.
"Let's get going then," Arthur said, heading out of the room and into the venue where he waited at the end of the aisle for Francis to come with his buddies as the rest of their friends and family sat in their seats.
"About bloody time you showed up Frog," Arthur said, getting a laugh from Francis.
"Sorry mon amour, but you know zhat beauty like zhis takes time~" Francis said in a teasing manner, making Arthur grumble a bit as the priest conducting the ceremony stepped up.
"We are gathered here today to-"
And so the ceremony seemed to go off without a hitch in the beautiful stone church where large stone vases filled with lights, water, or flowers were placed all about the room and all over the walls. Suddenly someone yelled;
"Look!"
Immediately, everyone in the church looked up to see one of the ornamental stone vases above the altar teetering on it's side.
"Arthur look out!" Francis cried, pushing Arthur out of the way as the stone vase fell, falling directly onto Francis.
"Francis!" Arthur yelled, his heart going cold as he saw Francis's unmoving body crushed underneath the large vase.
"We have to hurry!"
"We need to get it off him!"
"Alright boys, put your backs into it!" Allistor yelled, getting several of the stronger members of the audience to come and help push the stone vase off Francis, revealing a large dent in the ground where Francis was lying.
"He's got to be dead," Someone said as more echoed the sentiment. Cautious, Alfred came forward and reached out his hand for Francis, just about to feel him for a pulse when they all heard it.
Groan.
Everything became silent as all eyes turned to Francis. Alfred had paused, unable to comprehend what he heard as they all heard it again, this time seeing as the body moved ever so slightly.
It first started with a finger moving, then the hand itself trying to grasping, turning into a fist. Then came the entire arm, moving itself as if Francis were going to push himself up like one would doing a push-up.
"*groan* Mon dieu... Zhat 'urt..." They heard Francis moan out as he pushed himself off the ground, eliciting gasps of shock as everyone watched Francis, his suit torn and covered in blood, shift himself into a sitting position.
"I feel very sore..." Francis said, putting both hands on his back.
"How... how is this even possible?" Someone asked as the crowd began to murmur. Alfred cautiously moved closer to Francis.
"Pops?"
"Oui?"
"Can I, um, feel your pulse?" Alfred asked, making Francis raise an eyebrow at him.
"Go ahead, but be gentle, mon wrist is aching," Francis said with another groan, holding his arm out to Alfred. Alfred gently took it and tried to feel for a pulse.
Alfred gulped as his face darkened a bit. Before anyone could say anything, Alfred put his hand instead on Francis's neck.
"Alfred? What's-"
"There's no pulse," Alfred said, getting a few gasps.
"What do you mean no pulse?" Francis asked, as Arthur groaned, holding the bridge of his nose.
"I should've known that this was the reason something felt off..." He murmured to himself, making Francis turn to him.
"Arthur! What in zhe world is going on?!" Francis cried, sounding hysterical.
"Aye, I'd like ta know that myself too." Allistor said, staring down Arthur.
"Alright, I'll explain, but it's a bit of a long story," Arthur said. He took a deep breath and began.
"Allistor, remember about 2 weeks ago there was a break-in at our house?"
"Aye, I do; the gunman was taken down by the police." Allistor said, making Arthur shake his head.
"Not quite right. What actually happened is that he took Francis hostage and killed him before the police took him into custody." Arthur said, making Allistor raise an eyebrow.
"Then how is Francis... Don't tell me you-"
"I did." Arthur said, making Allistor groan as he lit up a cigar.
"You're a bloody idiot, ya know that?" Allistor said.
"For what? Bringing back the man I love in exchange for the murderer's life?" Arthur replied sarcastically. Allistor just breathed out smoke as he hit Arthur in the back of the head.
"No, you're a bloody idiot for bringin' your lover back as an undead." Allistor said, getting a gasp from Francis.
"What?! I'm undead?! I zhought I was alive!" Francis cried.
"Ya really think that after survivin' bein' crushed by a stone vase that weighs a ton?" Allistor deadpanned, making Francis unable to respond.
"Anyway, what Arthur actually did was make you into a walkin' corpse, somethin' inbetween a living thing and a zombie. If ya ain't purified and go to heaven, then in 10 or so years you'll turn into a mindless zombie and have ta be put down." Allistor said, making the small family go pale, Matthew's knees giving out.
"Zhen what should we do? I don't want to 'urt anyone," Francis said.
"Francis, you wouldn't do that and you know it," Arthur said, sitting beside Francis, taking his hand into his own.
"But-"
"Artie's right," Allistor said. "Ya got 10 years before you become a zombie. Till then, you're as harmless as a regular person."
Francis breathed a sigh of relief before hitting Arthur.
"Ouch! What was that for, you wanker?!" Arthur yelled.
"Zhat's for turning me into a walking corpse." Francis said with a huff. "So you better take responsibility for zhis for zhe next 10 years."
"What?" Arthur asked in a shocked tone. "How can you be fine with this?!"
"Simple, mon amour," Francis said with a chuckle. "If I can get 10 years more with our family, zhen I'm fine with being a walking corpse. I just hope when zhe time is right, someone will prevent me from becoming zhe mindless monster Allistor described."
Arthur was stunned as tears began to well up in his ears. Francis simply smiled his usual dazzling smile and reached a hand forward, wiping away a tear threatening to spill over as he leaned in close to Arthur's ear.
"Je t'aime," He whispered, pressing a fleeting kiss to Arthur's cheek as he pulled away.
"S-stupid frog," Arthur said, a brilliant blush forming on his face. "I love you too."
"Then get on with your weddin'," Allistor said, breaking the mood. "I'm gettin' tired of all this drama."
"Did you have to bloody say that?!" Arthur yelled in irritation at Allistor as Francis just laughed, signalling for the wedding to continue on as a new chapter of their lives began.
