Narrator's POV
"Can I Vati? Bitte [please]?" You asked, looking up at your vati with your big [e/c] eyes. Ludwig sighed, shaking his head.
"For zhe fifteenth time, nein, jou cannot open jour presents now." He said. You pouted, puffing out your bottom lip.
"But Vati, can't I open one?" You asked, giving him puppy-dog eyes.
"Nein, [name]." Ludwig said. "Jou can open jour gifts tomorrow, after Santa comes." He said, going back to placing the cookies in the oven.
"But I wanna now!" You whined, getting another sigh of frustration from Ludwig.
"Nein means nein." Ludwig said. "And if jou keep asking, zhen Santa may take jour presents away and leave jou coal in jour stockings instead." He threatened, making you let out a small shriek as you ran out of the room and over to the tree, hugging the gifts close to you.
"No! I don't want that!" You yelled. Ludwig sighed again for what felt like the umpteenth time today, though this time he felt a bit guilty. He took his oven mitts off and walked over to the living room.
"Nein [name]... I meant zhat as a joke." He said, making the little six-year old look up.
"Vati!" You whined, standing up. You put your hands on your hips and puffed your cheeks out. "That's not funny or nice!" You said, getting a nod from Ludwig who knelled down in front of the six-year old.
"Ja, it vasn't, but I vas tired of hearing jou ask me over and over again if jou could open jour presents now, vhen jou and I both know zhat jou are not allowed to open zhem until after Santa comes." Ludwig said honestly. You looked up at him with your angry expression.
"So no matter what you're going to say no?" You asked.
"I vill say nein," Ludwig said.
"And I have to wait until after Santa comes?"
"Ja, jou do, and Santa doesn't come till midnight, vay past jour bedtime." Ludwig said. You were silent before a smile came to your lips.
"Okay Vati." You said cheerfully, catching Ludwig off guard. He stared at you with his eyebrow raised.
"Vhat are jou planning [name]?" He asked, already knowing that you were up to something since you were his brother's niece. You gave him the sweetest, most innocent look you could muster.
"Nothing Vati." You said in a sweet voice, instantly confirming that you were up to something, but what, he still wasn't sure yet.
"Vati," You said, snapping him from his thoughts. "Can I go to bed now?" You asked.
"Vhat?" He asked. "Vhy do jou vant to go to bed now? It's only 7:30, jou still have an hour." He said, knowing that usually you wanted to go to bed late, which he wouldn't allow.
"Well, if I go to bed now, and sleep, then when I wake up, it'll be Christmas faster." You said, using six-year old logic, which made sense to you, but not really to Ludwig.
"... Alright," He said after a pause. "I guess zhat is fine, just be sure to help me set out milk and cookies for Santa." He said, seeing no real harm in [name] going to bed early. You beamed.
"Ja!" You said, running to the kitchen and opening the fridge, trying to get the milk out. Ludwig just chuckled as he shook his head and stood up, walking over to the fridge and taking the bottle of milk out, handing it to you.
Ludwig then walked over to the cupboard and grabbed a glass, setting it down on the counter.
"Vati, up." You said.
"Ja, ja, I'm coming." He said with a small smile, lifting you up and onto the counter, allowing you to pour the milk (under his watch). With that done, he set you down and handed you the glass, allowing you to go put it by the Christmas tree as Ludwig got the cookies out of the oven and placed a few on the plate.
"[name], zhe cookies are done." He said. He hummed as he heard small footsteps hurry over to him as he bent down and handed you the plate, watching as you hurried over to the living room to put the cookies beside the milk on the coffee table.
"Jou ready for bed?" Ludwig asked, still a bit shocked to see you nod your head.
"Ja Vati!" You said cheerfully, holding your arms up. Ludwig chuckled as he bent down and picked you up, carrying you up to your bedroom and putting you in bed, giving you your favorite plushie.
"Guten nacht liebling," Ludwig said softly as he tucked you in.
"Guten nacht Vati." You said. Ludwig smiled softly as he went to the door and turned the light off, closing the door and heading off to do his own activities till it was time for him to go to bed as well.
------------ Time Skip -------------
"Psst... Vati... Wake up..." A voice whispered as someone grabbed Ludwig's nose, holding it closed. Ludwig scrunched his face up as he opened his eyes, his eyes immediately going over to the nearby clock.
"[name]... It's past midnight... go back to bed." He said sleepily. You shook your head as you continued to sit on his chest.
"But Vati, it's past midnight." You said.
"Ja, I know, I just said zhat, now go to bed."
"But you said I couldn't open gifts till after Santa comes, and Santa comes at midnight, and he came already, so can I open my presents now?" You asked. It took Ludwig a minute to process what you said before he groaned.
"Ja... I did say zhat..." He said, making you squeal in joy as you got off his bed and started running downstairs as Ludwig sat up in the bed.
"I don't know vhether I should feel proud at her for coming up vith zhis plan or annoyed..." He muttered to himself, putting on his robe as he walked downstairs where the lights were on, and where you were sitting patiently waiting to open your gifts.
"Can I Vati?" You asked, holding up a present. Ludwig sat on the couch and took a deep breath before giving you a tired smile.
"Ja, now jou can [name]." He said, getting a squeal from you as you dived into opening and gushing over your gifts as Ludwig watched.
'Zhis... zhis vasn't so bad,' He thought to himself contently. 'Zhough next year, I zhink I'll have to be more careful vith mein instructions... Next time say zhat Christmas starts after six am.' He thought to himself as you hugged a new plushie close while also glancing at the clock.
'Ja... next year, Christmas starts after six, or actually, after seven am.' He though with a tired sigh.
