Song - Safe and Sound ~ Taylor Swift [The Hunger Games]
-----------
It was a day to remember, that was for sure. And you couldn't help but remember the memories that would soon haunt you your entire life.
You stood on a grassy field, slightly overlooking the scene. The scene -- a graveyard, and before you, was a gravestone that had the name implanted: Gilbert Bielschmidt. Your heart sank further down it's own abyss at the thought of him.
He was your sunshine, your happiness, your everything. And now, it was all --
Gone.
The memory of that day he died was still freshly vivid in your memories.
You were in the study, engrossed in another thrilling fiction. Outside was pelted with a rainstorm, making it the ideal weather to just nose around in a book, keeping yourself occupied.
With a sudden jolt like a thunderstrike, you jumped a good three inches off your chair when you heard a loud bang, or few bangs, from your front door. Quickly, you set the book down with a bookmark to mark your page, and went to the door.
Upon opening, you were met with the reddest eyes you have ever seen, and one you have never failed to melt under.
Gilbert.
You smiled at that memory. He was soaking wet, but he still held that smile. Taking a deep breath, you remember another memory, one that was bittersweet.
It was a pitiful night, indeed.
You were locked in your room, crying your heart out. You had a breakup with Arthur. He was a douche, now that you realized. He would flirt with so many girls and strip tease whenever he could. You remembered his confused look when you told him you were breaking up with him. He had asked for a reason, but you never gave one.
Truth is, you had followed him to one of his 'meetings' and overheard his conversations with another woman.
"I don't know, love, I just- I just don't love her anymore." Your heart stopped. What broke your heart was her response, in both actions and words.
"Well, you always have me." She said seductively to him. After that, they proceeded to make-out. You choked back a sob, and the next day, You broke up with him.
He seemed pleased. Good for him.
While You were in your crying fit, You had not noticed the door to your room open. Suddemly there was heavy pressure on one side of my bed. You sat up quickly to look who it was, and your body relaxed seeing it was Gilbert.
He had a sad smile, a smile of sympathy.
I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"
He soothed me. I felt closer to him.
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight
You swore you heard him sing while you continued to cry. He rubbed circles in your back and laid you down, kneeling beside you bed. He continued to sing
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
You had not cried so much. You hugged him, clinging on for dear life. Your sobs are now small hiccups and you felt tired. He smiled at you, sweetly, and kissed your tear-stained cheeks.
Such bittersweet memories, indeed. You coughed back your tears, memories still flooding your head. Oh, how you missed him so much.
It was a few years after that incident. You and Gilbert were dating. He insisted on taking it slow, showing how much he cares. It was the sweetest thing ever.
Well, not in this situation. Where you are living, there was a war that broke out. Bad thing is: they are taking place just outside your house. Both you and Gilbert were in the basement.
There were several earthquakes, or rumbles from whatever the cause, but then it ended. You had wanted to take a look.
Both you and Gilbert went up. Standing in the living room, there were three figures.
"We need any able men to fight in this war with us." The middle man boomed. You flinched.
"N-no!" Gilbert gave you a sad smile.
"(Name), it's okay.. We will always be together. I love you." You were now sobbing. The war is terrible, taking away almost anyone from this world. Why couldn't anyone get along?
He gave you a longing kiss, which you returned whole-heartedly. Afterwards, he gave you a small box. It was no bigger than a pencil box.
"Open this when I return." he gave another smile and kissed your cheeks, leaving with the men.
"I love you, too.." You squeaked out.
Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
It has been weeks since he left, and it still sounded like a warzone outside. You didn't dare look out in fear that your nightmare would come true.
However, someone barged in. It was the man that requested any able men to the war. He had a grave look on his face, scaring you.
He shook his head and handed Gilbert's uniform and dog tag to you.
You stared in shock.
Gone
Life was cruel, yes it was.
Just a week ago, it was the funeral. It was a dreadful day. Everyone was crying, you especially. The man in charge motioned for you in front of the pews, wanting you to give a small speech about Gilbert.
Shakily, you made your way to the front. Where to begin? There was too much to say in such a short amount of time.
"Where to start..." You began, your voice cracking. "Gilbert.. oh, Gilbert.. When I first met him, he was unorthodox, didn't care about a whole lot of people, and was just.. different from everyone else. Most of all, he was patient with me." You almost choked, tears welling up in your eyes.
"I dated the wrong people before I started dating him. I could tell from the hangouts we had, he was slowly changing." You chuckled lightly, recountering some fond memories.
"Everytime I was down, he was there to cheer me up. When I was so depressed and couldn't live any longer, he usually sang to me." You turned around to face his casket, looking in to see his once pale face, blackened with burns and punctures. You began to sing the song he always sang to you.
Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
La La (La La)
Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, Oooh
La La (La La)
You were crying. You had not finished your speech, but you couldn't. It was too unbearable.
Now you were standing in front of his grave, gazing upon the marks that permanently lay his name.
He had given you something before he died, and told you not to open it until he was back.
Well, curiosity struck you dearly, so you raced back to your home, bringing out the box. It was wrapped in (favorite color) wrapper. You smile sadly at this.
Opening it, there revealed a letter and a smaller box. You took out the letter and began to read.
Dear (Name).
I can't make this too long, so I will keep it quick and simple.
You are my everything. You changed me. And now, after a while of dating, I want to ask you something:
Will you marry me?
You cried hard. You will never be able to marry the guy who pieced you back together again. You went to your medicine cabinet, grab every medication you have and swallowed them.
Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...
Oooh, oooh, oooh, oooh oh oh
Endless blackness.
All you wanted was to see him again, but can you now?
