Mingan
Nation Name: Cree
Human Name: goes by Mingan (meaning "gray wolf") though his actual name is Kaneonuskatew (meaning "one that walks on four claws")
Age: unverified; known to be the oldest of any native peoples in North America.
He appears to be physically about 39.
Sexuality: biromantic heteroflexible
History: [editing in process]
Appearance: With long black hair, beginning to be streaked with grey, that falls to mid-thigh and is most commonly rolled up into two fur-wraps that lay across his shoulders and drape down as well as his darkly tanned skin and lean boxer's build Mingan can hardly be mistaken for his 2p. His dark, deep chestnut brown eyes always seem to sparkle with knowing and kindness which is only accentuated by his near ever present smile. Standing at about 5'9" his slim shoulders don't make him appear to be very threatening, but be warned there is much more to him than meets the eye...
Mingan, while he loves to don his old more traditional clothes, nowadays has taken to more modern clothing. Albeit it's more of a mix of the two... He wears some up to date snow gear such as goggles and insulated gloves and the like but prefers to wear his old buckskins and furs as well. His most notable article of clothing is the long fur covered bearhide coat he is almost never seen without. It's made in such a way that the fur insulating the inside is removable and easily put back on too. With carved orca teeth as buttons, polar bear fur lining, and colorful detailed embroidery on the back and along the edge of the sleeve cuffs it's by far both the flashiest and one of the most cherished items he owns.
Under the coat Mingan normally wears a simple dark blue long sleeve shirt and pants that have a modern design but are made of elkhide. His footwear consists of traditional fur covered buckskin boots, though in warmer weather and climates he trades these out for some thinner non-fur lined ones. He has taken to wearing a dark brown scarf loosely knotted around his neck at nearly all times, though the ends have been snagged so many times on branches and such that they've fallen off due to being threadbare and now the scarf looks more like a long-tailed bandana than a scarf.
Mingan bears a few distinct scars from past battles the most noticeable of which is a long semi-jagged line that stretches from the bottom of his right ear down to just past his right collarbone. He is extremely hesitant to tell how he came by this particular scar and refuses to say so even to his other Native Canadian siblings...
Personality: In contrast to his second player Mingan loves company and could spend hours just talking or telling tales until well past sundown. He is quite fond of all his siblings- younger, older, more fiery, reclusive; doesn't matter to him- and is willing to do anything it takes to help them should they need it. Friendly, caring, somewhat eccentric at times, and energetically adventurous he can occasionally be a handful to manage. His inquisitive nature coupled with his knack for adventure and exploring can often times lead him into trouble, even now in his older years. Always fond of a good laugh and with a knack for telling old stories around a campfire Mingan sometimes seems more like a favorite old uncle than the rarely seen and little known (to most) man he is.
Mingan is not suited for long goodbyes and his 'work' requires him to go off into the snowy frigid North for up to months or even years at a time. And though he is a bit of a social butterfly is rare to fully be able to spend lengthy time with him, something that saddens him greatly. But it is made up for by all the fun times he is able to have with everyone.
Kind and heartily spoken Mingan is similar in many ways to his younger sibling Shikoba, as he both has mercy to spare and will not tolerate even mildly any infighting among his siblings. Any such that is seen or heard of will be reprimanded (the severity of which depends on what has been done). Similarly, it would not be wise for others to fight in front of him either, as he has no qualms about putting you in your place if he sees fit to do so.
To strangers or those he doesn't know well he tries to be polite and respectful though if not shown such in kind he will cease to continue. If you insult him he is not at all above insulting you in return, not always in a direct way.
Other: Mingan is incapable of using magic but he does have one gift: he's a skin-walker. An arctic wolf skin-walker to be exact. This is something he's never told anyone to this day and as far as he knows only one other person is aware of the fact. It's part of the reason why he never seems to take off his coat, because he hides his wolf pelt under it. If seen he'll just say it's a cultural thing or, if his siblings catch sight of it, that it's a trophy of some sort. Though that's all he'll say on the matter and soon will change the subject entirely.
Mingan has eight dog companions that double as his sled dogs. He's very fond of and attached to every one of them and treats them kindly. The alpha of the small pack is a male named Annewan (meaning "chief").
There are very, very few who know his true name as he kept it a secret for a long time. He trusted even fewer to tell them himself, and even today is hesitant to tell certain others or let it be known to them.
Current Economy and Status: he still holds onto his nation status today as the Cree have their own government and such, though just by a thread it would seem. His economy is unverified but thought to be doing fairly well.
[edit]: the Cree are doing very well economically and seem to be prospering. (There are an accounted for 200,000 Cree total in Canada and the US)
Why You Came to Camp International: to visit family and explore the island. Also to take a bit of a vacation from the cold a bit.
Allies: Blackfoot, Stoney, Ojibwa, Assiniboine.
Enemies: Blackfoot, Dakota, Iroquois, Atsina. (Though he is trying to make amends)
Skills: A skilled dog trainer he commands his sled team well and occasionally even helps others in training their dogs as well. Mingan is also a fairly good tracker (with or without the aid of his dogs). He excels in hunting and has been known before to take down a full grown bull moose by himself once and though urged to show others how he can do so he refuses, saying he will only do so if it is truly needed. He's not too shabby with needle and thread either, though it's not a specialty. His real talent, however, lies in making birch bark canoes.as far as weapons go Mingan is most skilled in the bow and arrow and spears. Over time he has adopted and mixed in different staff fighting techniques to add to the spear, along with a point at both ends. He is never to be underestimated in battle as he knows many ways to distract and fell an opponent.
As a wolf his sense are heightened and sharpened and he is capable of outrunning and outmaneuvering all of his dogs as well as Ahmik's Lynx. Something he is proud of yet will not boast about.
