Montana's Version:
Hey, hey, daddy, want a whiskey ditch?
Hey, hey, mommy, hey, hey, mommy!
I cannot forget the taste of that
Elk burger I ate so long ago!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
My name's Montana!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
Looking closely, that's the Earth!
Or maybe, that's the Earth?
I'm the Treasure State!
Ah, with just a brushstroke,
A wonderful world can be seen!
Gold and silver are found in the
Shining Mountains!
("I wonder if I can make that. Only one way to find out.")
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!

Ah, the taste of game meat
In a recipe leads to happiness!
("It's lean and high in protein!")
This pastry looks like a bear claw!

Hey, Alberta! ("I like your beef!")
Hey, hey, daddy, have a whiskey ditch!
Hey, hey, mommy, hey, hey, mommy!
I cannot forget the taste of that
Elk burger I ate so long ago!

Going-to-the-Sun Road leads to the
Shining Mountains!
Ah, throughout the world,
Sleeps the recipe of happiness!
The badlands are full of dinosaurs!
I'm Montana!

Author's Note:
Montana's version was one of the most difficult versions to make. Though there was "plenty" of information about the state, much of it didn't grab my immediate interest to turn into lyrics. For example, I knew Glacier National Park was one of Montana's gems, yet I really give it a proper mention despite its importance to the state. To be fair, it was a struggle incorporating a part of the national park in lyrics.
I considered mentioning Hannah Montana, but I decided not to because I wasn't sure if it was outdated or not. I went with the former and left the reference out entirely. Overall, I wouldn't say I hate Montana's version. But if I were to rank all the versions, this one would be ranked close to the bottom, partially due to my bad experience trying to come up with this version.
Footnotes:
• A whiskey ditch is an alcoholic drink where the whiskey is watered down with cubed ice. The term is primarily used in Montana.
• Elk burgers are common in Montana cuisine.
• "The Treasure State" is Montana's official nickname.
• "Gold and silver" is the English translation of Montana's motto, "Oro y Plata."
• "The Land of Shining Mountains" is one of the state slogans of Montana.
• "I wonder if I can make that" is a reference to Evel Knievel, an American stunt performer who was known to perform daredevil jumps, sometimes at the cost of his health.
• "Big Sky Country" is one of Montana's nicknames.
• Montana is known for big game hunting of all kinds of animals. Some game animals like elk, moose, and bison are known for being high in protein and low in fat.
• A bear claw is a sweet pastry filled with almond paste and sometimes raisins. They can be found in Montana.
• Idaho and Wyoming are some of Montana's neighbors in the United States. Alberta is one of Montana's neighbors in Canada.

• "The Last Best Place" is one of Montana's slogans.
• "Where the skies are always blue" are based on lyrics from Montana's state anthem.

Author's Note:
It was quite easy making Washington's version. Although I did have trouble figuring out a dish I would use for the intro. My first choice was smoked salmon or cedar-planked salmon, but I was already using salmon for Alaska's version. Then, I considered using the geoduck. I knew that mollusk was a region specialty, but I wasn't sure if it was a popular item to eat among Washington residents. In the end, I went with Dungeness crab. Even though the crab could be found along the Western Coast of the United States, at least its name was based on a town in Washington. Other than failing to mention marijuana, I think I did a great job with Washington's version.
Footnotes:
• Washington is known for its coffee, especially with Starbucks being founded in Seattle.
• Dungeness is a species of crab found along the western coast of North America. It's named after Dungeness, Washington.
• "The Evergreen State" is Washington's nickname.
• Washington is named after the first U.S. president, George Washington.
• Microsoft Corporation is an American multinational technology company with headquarters in Redmond, Washington. It owns Microsoft Windows, an operating system for PCs, tablets, and smartphones. Windows 10, in particular, is a version that's known for its constant updates which can annoy many of its users.
• Washington is known for its eco-friendly policies.
• Because of Washington's name, some people assume that's where the U.S. capital is located. In actuality, Washington D.C. is located on the other side of the country.
• Farmers' markets are popular areas to shop for locally grown and made foods in the Pacific Northwest, especially in Washington.
• Rachel the Pig is a piggy bank statue as well as the unofficial mascot of Pike Place Market in Seattle, Washington.
• Mount Ranier is a large active stratovolcano in the Cascade Mountains within Washington. It's considered one of the most dangerous volcanoes for if it were to erupt it would cause more destruction than the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens.
• Idaho and Oregon are Washington's neighbors.
• Xbox is a video game console owned by Microsoft.
• Seattle, Washington is known for teriyaki, a cooking technique in Japanese cuisine.
• Alexa is a virtual assistant AI technology developed by Amazon, an online shopping and delivery service based in Seattle, Washington.

Let's make a toast to the Pulaski!
I'm Idaho!
Ah, throughout the world,
Sleeps the recipe of happiness!
From Sun Valley to Craters of the Moon!
I'm Idaho!
~
Author's Note:
I'm sure there are lots of films based on Idaho, yet many of the quotes I included in this version was based on Napoleon Dynamite. Not sure if that or the numerous mentions of potatoes will piss off Idahoans. In my opinion, I like these lyrics for not only being humorous but for also making the state stand out. Because without them, Idaho's version would've probably been similar to Montana's version.
Footnotes:
• Idaho drinks the most wine per capita of all the U.S. states.
• Croquettes are small cylinders consisting of a thick binder combined with a filling, which is then breaded and deep-fried, and served as a side dish or a snack. They're commonly served in Idaho.
• "The Gem State" is Idaho's official nickname.
• A Pulaski is a type of ax used to fight wildfires. It was invented by Ed Pulaski, an Idahoan who worked as a forest ranger. In my opinion, the shape of Idaho looks like the head of a Pulaski.
• In truth, no one knows the meaning of Idaho's name. George M. Willing first suggested the name mean "the sun comes from the mountains" or "the gem of the mountains", however, he later claimed he made the name up. Nevertheless, some sources still claim Idaho's name to be of Native American origin.
• "Fat lard" is a quote from a film called Napoleon Dynamite which was filmed in Franklin County, Idaho.
• "The Spud State" is one of Idaho's nicknames.
• Idaho is famous for its potatoes.
• Idaho ice cream is a bit misleading. It's basically vanilla ice cream covered in cocoa powder and topped with whipped cream to make it look like a baked potato.
• The huckleberry is the state fruit of Idaho.
• Washington, Oregon, and Montana are some of Idaho's neighbors.
• "Bring me chapstick", "give me some of your tots", and "I caught you a delicious bass" are some memorable quotes from Napoleon Dynamite.
• Funnily enough, Ore-Ida, an American brand of frozen potato-based products such as tater tots, was founded in Oregon.
• Idaho is famous for its bass fishing.
• Vodka is an alcoholic drink produced from potatoes. Of course, Idaho is known for producing vodka.
• Indeed, there are multiple ways to cook potatoes.
• Sun Valley, Idaho is a resort city, notable for skiing.
• Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve is located in central Idaho.

I'm Wyoming!
Ah, throughout the world,
Sleeps the recipe of happiness!
The bison freely roam Yellowstone!
I'm Wyoming!
~
Author's Note:
Compared to the others, Wyoming's version is one to have the least amount of references which makes their version sound simple in my opinion. There's not a whole lot going for the state. Though, I should've at least mentioned the state's status as the least populated state in America. Nevertheless, I'm still grateful I was able to create Wyoming's version without much hassle.
Footnotes:
• A sloshie is essentially an alcoholic slushie. They're quite popular in Wyoming, especially around Jackon Hole
• Bison burgers are popularly known in Wyoming cuisine.
• "The Equality State" is Wyoming's official nickname.
• Wyoming is the first territory in the United States to give women the right to vote. Also, Wyoming in its early history allowed women to participate in politics.
• Old Faithful is the name of a large geyser in Yellowstone National Park. It's currently known for its predictable geothermal activity. In the past, it used to "wash" clothes for many pioneers.
• "The Cowboy State" is one of Wyoming's nicknames.
• Devils Tower (aka Bear Lodge Butte) is the first United States national monument, established on September 24, 1906, by President Theodore Roosevelt. Multiple legends relating to the gigantic butte involve a giant bear chasing after children until the children were saved when they got on top of a rock that rose to become Devils Tower.
• Idaho, Montana, and Colorado are some of Wyoming's neighbors.
• Rodeo is the state sport of Wyoming.
• "Greenie" is a term by Wyomingites for Coloradoans.
• A jackalope is a cryptid rabbit with small antlers on its head. They're based in Wyoming, known to sing and drink whiskey.
• Yellowstone National Park is Wyoming's most visited park. It's home to a population of free-roaming American bison.

~
Author's Note:
Having done plenty of research on Utah, it's near impossible to make their version without the mention of Mormonism. Even if one were to avoid talking about the religion, everything else about the state will usually have some kind of association with the Mormons. Of course, it's not necessarily a bad thing. It's something I've noticed while creating Utah's version.
Footnotes:
• Postum is a powdered roasted-grain beverage, popular as a coffee substitute. It's popular with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and part of Mormon culture for many years because Mormons abstain from coffee.
• Funeral potatoes are a traditional potato hotdish or casserole that's popular in the American Intermountain West and Midwest. Members of The LDS Church call it "funeral potatoes" because the casserole is commonly served as a side dish during traditional after-funeral dinners.
• "The Beehive State" is Utah's official nickname.
• The honey bee is the state insect of Utah.
• In the 19th century, Mormonism used to accept polygamous relationships, however, that came into conflict with the U.S. government and the rest of America at the time. Eventually, the LDS Church banned polygamy for Utah to become a state. However, a minority of Mormons continue to practice polygamy despite it being against the law.
• "Sweet and salty" is a subtle reference to the sweet foods of Utah and Salt Lake City.
• "Deseret" is one of Utah's nicknames.
• Utah is known for its pastrami burgers.
• Fry sauce is a condiment mixture of ketchup and mayonnaise. Supposedly, it originated in Salt Lake City at a fast-food restaurant called Arctic Circle.
• The Book of Mormon does state Jesus Christ appeared in America.
• Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada are some of Utah's neighbors.
• Green Jell-O is the state snack of Utah.
• "Utah, this is the place" is the state song of Utah.
• Utah claims to have the best snow on Earth according to certain conditions, allowing the state to have lots of powder snow that's good for winter sports.
• The beehive is the state emblem of Utah.
• Industry is the state motto of Utah.

Oklahoma!
Ah, throughout the world,

Let's come together for a powwow!
Oklahoma!
~
Author's Note:
Oklahoma's version was quite easy to make. The only difficulty I had was choosing which things to incorporate into their version because there was plenty of information about the state. Interesting history, a diverse culture, and plenty of state symbols to choose from. I even considered incorporating a Native American language. With so many tribes located in the state, however, I decided not to. Even though this version does a good job incorporating some aspects of the state, I know without a doubt there's a lot I miss the chance to include.
Footnotes:
• Siyo means "hello" in Cherokee.
• Sonic Drive-In is an American drive-in fast-food restaurant chain founded in Oklahoma. They're known to serve slushies and milkshakes in a variety of flavors.
• Chicken fried steak (aka country fried steak) is one of the state foods of Oklahoma.
• "The Sooner State" is Oklahoma's official nickname.
• The State of Oklahoma is shaped like a skillet.
• Red Dirt is a genre of music that originated in Oklahoma.
• "Boomer's Paradise" is one of Oklahoma's nicknames.
• Oklahoma's state meal consists of twelve foods: fried okra, squash, cornbread, barbecued pork, biscuits, sausage and gravy, grits, corn, strawberries, chicken fried steak, pecan pie, and black-eyed peas.
• Watermelons are the state vegetable of Oklahoma.
• Oklahoma is located in Tornado Alley, so it's common for the state to witness tornadoes.
• "O.K." is a play-on-words. Not only is it the abbreviation of "okay", but it's also the USPS abbreviation of Oklahoma.
• Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas are some of Oklahoma's neighbors.
• Oklahoma has a known rivalry with Texas.
• The Golden Driller is the state monument of Oklahoma.
• Mistletoe is the state floral emblem of Oklahoma.
• Green and white are the state colors of Oklahoma.
• A powwow is a social gathering held by many different Native American communities to meet, dance, sing, socialize, and honor their cultures. Oklahoma is known for its Native American population.

Ah, throughout the world,

Take off in a hot air balloon!
New Mexico!
~
Author's Note:
Looking at the list of footnotes below, I'm quite surprised the list is that short. Then again, much of the song relates to New Mexican chile. While it's true New Mexico is known for its chile, I somewhat wish I included other dishes like breakfast burritos and enchiladas. At the same, I like the lyrics relating to chile. They're some of my favorite lines in addition to the line about the nuclear bomb.
Footnotes:
• New Mexico is known for piñon coffee (coffee made from pine nuts).
• Green chile stew is a popular dish in New Mexico.
• "Land of Enchantment" is New Mexico's official nickname.
• The "aliens" refer to both extraterrestrials and illegal immigrants.
• "Red or green?" is the state question of New Mexico. The answer being "Christmas" is a reference to New Mexican chiles, particularly red and green chiles.
• "It grows as it goes" is the English translation of New Mexico's motto.
• "Land of Sunshine" is one of New Mexico's nicknames.
• If it isn't obvious, chile is one of the state vegetables of New Mexico, often incorporated in many dishes.
• The first atomic bomb testing took place in Trinity, New Mexico as a part of Project Y of the Manhatten Project.
• Colorado, Arizona, and Texas are some of New Mexico's neighbors.
• Though they sound the same, chile and chili are two different things.
• "Everbody is somebody" is the state slogan of New Mexico.
• Pueblos are houses made of adobe, originating from Pueblo people in the Southwest.
• Albuquerque, New Mexico is known for its hot air balloon festival.

Hey, hey, daddy, have some tequila!
Hey, hey, mommy, hey, hey, mommy!
I cannot forget the taste of that
Chimichanga I ate long ago!
Colorado,
New Mexico,
Utah, and I share a corner!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
Draw a circle, that's the Earth!
I'm Arizona!
Ah, with just a brushstroke,
A wonderful world can be seen!
Watch out for jumping teddy bears!
Arizona!
Ah, throughout the world,
Sleeps the recipe of happiness!
Where the sunsets are magical!
Arizona!

Author's Note:
At first, I had difficulty finding interesting information about the state. But after incorporating Arizona's personality with the stuff I found, this version ended up being a favorite. That's all I have to say on the matter.
Footnotes:
• Lemonade is the state beverage of Arizona.
• One of the origins of the chimichanga is supposedly by accident in Arizona.
• "The Grand Canyon State" is Arizona's official nickname.
• The saguaro is a species of cactus native to Arizona. Its blossoms are the state flower of Arizona. Also, it's protected under Arizona law.
• In 1982, a man was killed after damaging a saguaro with a shotgun. One of the arms of the saguaro fell on the man, crushing him to death as a result.
• Kachina dolls are figures carved, typically from cottonwood root, by the Hopi people, a group of Native Americans who mainly reside in Arizona. Traditionally, they're given to young girls and new brides, however, more contemporary dolls can be bought at various prices.
• "The Copper State" is one of Arizona's nicknames.
• Navajo tacos are made with frybread, a type of flat dough bread that's typically fried or deep-fried in oil. Frybread has a controversial relationship with Native American culture, having originated from items provided by the U.S. government during persecution. According to one individual, they call it "Die Bread" due to it being high in fats and starch.
• Tied with Texas, Arizona is home to the most rattlesnake species.
• New Mexico, California, and Nevada are some of Arizona's neighbors.
• The first barrel of tequila made in the United States was in Arizona. In the present era, Arizona continues to make its own tequila outside of Mexico.
• The Tequila Sunrise is a cocktail with origins from Phoenix, Arizona.
• The Four Corners Monument marks the quadripoint in the Southwestern United States where the states of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet.
• The teddy bear cholla (aka the jumping teddy bear) is a cholla cactus species native to Arizona.
• "The Sunset State" is one of Arizona's nicknames which is quite understandable after looking up sunsets in Arizona on Google.

Author's Note:
I'm quite proud of Alaska's version when it comes to the multiple references I've included. It's not a favorite of mine due to a lack of jokes, but I still like it for showcasing lots of things about Alaska.
Footnotes:
• Vodka was introduced to Alaska through Russian settlers who often traded the drink with indigenous natives. Though Alaska isn't a big producer of vodka, it is famous for "smoked salmon vodka."
• Salmon is a common fish native to Alaskan that can be cooked in various ways. I went with smoked salmon for the lyrics.
• "The Last Frontier" is Alaska's official nickname.
• Indeed, Polaris is the North Star. It's a part of the Big Dipper constellation. Both of which are featured on Alaska's flag.
• Igloos are a type of shelter built with snow, often associated with Inuit and Eskimo peoples. Though most indigenous people in Alaska (as well as Northern Canada) live in traditional homes, the igloo still serves as a stereotype for such people.
• "North to the future" is the state motto of Alaska.
• "Land of the Midnight Sun" is one of Alaska's nicknames.
• Alaska is known for its great wilderness. Since imports are expensive, many people tend to forage and hunt for food instead.
• Akutaq (aka Eskimo ice cream) is a dessert in western Alaska and northern Canada. It's made with whipped fat mixed with berries, fish, tundra greens, and sometimes sugar.
• During the longer days in Alaska, vegetables are allowed to absorb lots of sunlight, allowing them to grow enormous (and much sweeter). I recommend checking such pictures out to get an idea of how ridiculously huge Alaskan vegetables can get to be.
• Though Alaska's only land neighbor is Canada, I included Washington due to its "close" proximity to the state and Hawaii for being the next state after them to enter the Union.
• Much of rural Alaska is known for having slow Internet speed.
• Alaska was a former colony of Russia until it was sold to America in the late 19th century.
• Not long after being sold to the United States, gold was found in Alaska.
• Alaska produces about 25% of U.S. oil.
• A Duck Fart is a layered alcoholic shot originating from Alaska.
• Pacific halibut is a large fish often caught in Alaska.
• Red king crab (aka Alaskan king crab) is a king crab species often caught in Alaska.
• Alaska has the most coastline among the states.
• Dog mushing is the state sport of Alaska.
• Alaska has a special variation of hot dogs called "reindeer dogs" made of caribou meat.
• The northern lights are a natural light display that's often seen in Alaska.
• Denali (formerly called Mount McKinley) is the highest mountain peak in North America, located in Alaska.

Author's Note:
I would've included more of the Hawaiian language into this version. But with many Hawaiian words containing lots of syllables, they didn't flow with the song in my opinion. If they did, I would've included them and like the version more. Nevertheless, I still like Hawaii's version despite being unable to mention most of their cuisine.
Footnotes:
• The origins of pineapple juice come from Hawaii's pineapple industry.
• Malasadas are a fried type of doughnut, made of small balls of yeast dough and coated with granulated sugar and sometimes cinnamon. In Hawaii, they have all kinds of fillings.
• "The Aloha State" is Hawaii's official nickname.
• "Paradise of the Pacific" is one of Hawaii's nicknames.
• In the 19th century, the Kingdom of Hawaii adopted its own flag which included the Union Jack concerning Great Britain's influence on the islands.
• Papahānaumoku (simply called Papa) is a goddess and the Earth Mother in Hawaiian mythology.
• "The Rainbow State" is one of Hawaii's nicknames.
• Though Spam originated from Minnesota, it became popular in the Hawaiian Islands during and after World War II. Since then, Spam continues to be a staple in Hawaiian cuisine.
• Loco moco is a Hawaiian dish usually consisting of white rice, topped with a slice of Spam, a fried egg, and brown gravy. Of course, there are variations with this dish.
• Kālua is a traditional Hawaiian cooking method incorporating an imu, an underground oven. Kālua pig is the most famous dish to be cooked in this method, often the centerpiece of a lūʻau.
• A lūʻau is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast that is usually accompanied by entertainment such as singing and hula dancing.
• Elder peers, neighbors, and even strangers are sometimes called "uncle" or "auntie" by younger peers in Hawaii despite being unrelated by blood. The reason is because of the belief that everyone is related to a community.
• Hawaiian lava sledding is a Native Hawaiian sport that doesn't involve molten hot magma.
• A Mai-Tai is a tropical cocktail popularly served at bars in Hawaii.
• Ukulele is the state instrument of Hawaii.
• Hula dancing is the state dance of Hawaii.
• Surfing is the state sport of Hawaii.
• Honolulu is the capital as well as the most populous city of Hawaii.
• Leis are Hawaiian wreaths that are usually made of flowers.
• Lehua are red flowers of the ʻōhiʻa lehua tree. They're the symbolic flower of the Big Island of Hawaii. The other Hawaiian Islands have their own symbolic color and flower.
