Historical Background: The Spanish were the first Europeans to explore the region around 1540. Over a century later, the French established their presence in the region in April 1699. Both France and Spain ruled the area until 1763 when Great Britain attained France's claims of the area; Great Britain would later transfer their claims to the United States after the American Revolutionary War. The State of Georgia claimed most of Mississippi until they were forced to cede it to the federal government in 1798, consequently creating the Territory of Mississippi. When Mississippi became a state in 1817, its size was split in half for the creation of Alabama Territory.

Personality: Chirpy and Clueless. Ranked high for flaws and placed low for being the worst in whatever category, this poor virtuous gal is often frowned upon for being a goddamn disappointment—somehow making other Southern states look great by comparison. This comes as a consequence of her horrid history. Former bosses have manipulated her lily-livered naïveté, refusing to let her develop for a long time. As a result, she's forced to play catch-up with a growing nation that's already far ahead of her in many ways she can't comprehend. In that sense, she's like a child—too stubborn to change, too sensitive to criticism, and too dumb to get with the program. Truth be told, this Mudcat doesn't wish to be viewed as a shameful annoyance. Though not the smartest, the richest, or the greatest state in the country, she likes to think of herself as being the most humble and the most hospitable state to ever grace the Earth. Her trust in God remains strong, so she's hoping her prayers will be answered in due time. Until then, she continues to live in her own bubble, protected from the mean world surrounding her.
