Chapter 1
The first thing I noticed when I walked through the door of room 12, was that it was inexplicably clean even though it was quite obvious someone was already sitting on the bed at the left of the room. The desk did have stuff on it, however, it was laid out in neat lines and put in pots. There were no clothes strewn on the floor, they were all hung or folded neatly, and the bedsheets were spick and span.
The whole left side of the room had been changed, yet it looked like it hadn't been touched at all.
The person on the bed itself looked just as neat and tidy as everything in the room. He wore a pair of black jeans, a burgandy t-shirt and a pair of white Nike trainers.. His blonde hair was pushed back out of his eyes, which were a striking blue colour, and he was biting his lip in concentration as his eyes skimmed over a textbook.
When I walked in, he still didn't look up, and I saw he had earbuds in. He was moving his foot unconciously to the beat. I put down the first box on my bed and walked out again, bringing in the next one. There were still two more to go when I flopped against the wall, already tired out.
"Do you want help with that?" A deep voice asked.
I looked up to see the blonde guy above me, holding out his hand for me and looking away.
"Yeah," I said, taking his hand and allowing him to pull me up. He was really strong. "Thanks."
"Um, it's okay." Was he blushing? "How many more are there?"
"Just two. Not that that's a problem for you I bet!" I laughed happily.
He smiled a little, like he was trying not to, then rubbed the back of his neck as we made our way down to the car park.
"Why would you say that?" He laughed quietly.
"Well, you must be really strong, since you pulled me off the floor, and you look muscular, if you don't mind my saying, oh and also- oh, sorry. I'm rambling again aren't I?" I stopped talking, staring at the ground.
"No, no. It's fine. And anyways, you're very light."
We stepped outside the building and began walking to the carpark.
"I'm here with my Grandpa Rome, by the way. He's only here for a couple more hours before he flies back to Italy though, which is really sad because I want to see him as much as possible." We had reached the car park now, and I pointed to a red Ferrari. "That's the one."
I ran over to the car and picked up another box. Grandpa Rome sat in the front of the car, smiling back at me.
"Sorry I can't carry anything, Feli." He laughed. "You're Grandpa's getting old."
I laughed happily. "Oh, Grandpa! You barely look 30!"
"You flatter me. Oh, who is this?"
The blonde boy smiled and shook Grandpa's hand. I realized even I didn't know his name yet. Oh, and I read it on the info sheet and everything. What was it?
"Pleased to meet you, I'm Ludwig. Myself and Feliciano are to be roommates."
That was it! Ludwig. He said it with an accent, well, he spoke with an accent that I could only describe as German. Oh, and when he said my name, my full name, nontheless! It was amazing.
"Ah, well please take good care of him." Grandpa smiled.
"Grandpa~! I don't need to be looked after, I'm not a kid anymore!" I whined.
"Yes, of course." Grandpa laughed, placing a kiss on my forhead.
Myself and Ludwig carried the two last boxes up to room 12, and Grandpa Rome followed after us. When the boxes were set down, I threw my arms around him.
"I'm going to miss you so much." I mumbled into his chest, feeling the tears start flowing.
"I know, I know." Grandpa sighed, tussling my hair and rubbing my back. He held me so tight, I didn't want him to let go.
"Mhm..." I said sadly.
"Well, you know I have to go, but I can fly over if you want, or if anything happens call me."
"Mhm." I looked up, wiping the tears from my eyes.
"Now, now, your Grandpa has a flight to catch in two hours, so I'm going to have to go. Don't forget to call me when you want, and remember to talk to your brother. He's moving in with his new roommate apparently, so don't talk to him yet or he'll probably be grumpy." I was holding on to him still, but I let go and stood up straight, being as strong as I could.
"Pleasure meeting you, Ludwig. Take care of my grandson."
"Of course." Ludwig replied.
I walked down to his car with him, then waved goodbye until he rounded the corner.
Slowly, I walked back to the door and moved the boxes onto the floor, laying on the unmade bed. I felt... empty. I'd lived with Grandpa Rome my whole life, alongside my brother Lovino, who had come to this same University a whole year ago. He was one year above me, but he hadn't come to see me yet.
"I don't know what to do, now." I sighed.
"You could unpack?" Ludwig suggested. He was on his laptop, brows furrowed. "I knew I'd seen you before..."
"What?" I asked, rolling over to face him. "Where?"
"Oh, we follow eachother on Twitter, look." He spun the laptop around to show me, and I saw my Twitter page.
"Oh, look! Silly me, I should have noticed you, then." I giggled.
"Hopefully not, I don't post selfies." Ludwig said, thoughtfully. "Though there's probably some of me on Gil's page."
"Gil... is Gilbert. Gilbert Beilschmidt?" I asked, reacalling memories of an account.
"Yeah, he's my brother." Ludwig replied, he sounded a little exasperated.
Pulling out my laptop from one of the boxes, I hopped on Twitter and searched Ludwig's name. His account popped up as 'GermanBlondie'.
"Oh, hey. I do follow you." I said, scrolling through his feed. "Oh! I remember liking one of your really old pictures then freaking out."
"I think that's how I found you, anyway." Ludwig laughed.
I laughed, then sent him a private message which read, 'help me unpack? <3'.
I looked over at Ludwig, his brows were furrowed again, then he looked over at me and raised an eyebrow.
"What?" I asked, innocently.
"Was the heart nescisary?" Ludwig laughed. "Or wait, are you trying to flirt with me to get me to do it all?"
"Hey!" I pouted. "I need help." I kneeled down next to the boxes, pulled out my Italian flag bedsheets and began to make the bed. When I'd finished, I turned around to see Ludwig looking confused, holding a rabbit teddy bear between two fingertips.
I snatched the rabbit plushie from him and cradled it. "What?"
"You sleep with a bear?"
"I always have. He's called rabbit."
"Creative." I heard Ludwig mumble.
After a while, we had unpacked all of my stuff and cleaned the room (he did the cleaning). I'd even stuck some pictures on my corkboard above the bed.
I lay down on tbe floor, facing the ceiling and blowing the hair from my face. My fringe kept slipping into my eyes, but I didn't have the willpower to move it.
"Was that tiring for you?" Ludwig asked. He was lying on his bed reading his textbook.
"Yes, no, who cares? Why are you reading that? It's still a week before lectures start." I mumbled, actually quite tired.
"Light reading, getting into the subject, why?" He answered.
"I dunno." I said in a sing song voice. Slowly, I clambered onto my bed and stared at Ludwig.
Needless to say, he was rather handsome. He was manly, as well. The German had a strong jawline, masculine lips and nose, sturdy, onlooking eyes. And as I was laying there, looking at Ludwig, I could'nt help but think that he was dreamy. I mentally slapped myself, telling myself to stop. I couldn't fall in love with someone I'd just met!
Could I?
Suddenly, my phone rang, playing a happy tune that I recognized as Lovi's tune. I grabbed my phone and answered.
"Hey." I said.
"Hey, you. Are you settled in alright? It's been a couple of hours so I thought I'd check in."
"Yeah, I'm fine. So... how's your roommate?" I giggled.
"Ugh, lets not talk about him right now. Oh shit..."
"What?"
"I forgot to submit my medical form for the year. I'll call you back, kay?"
"Sure." I hung up.
I flopped back down onto the bed again, restlessness coursing through my veins. I wanted to DO something!
"Hey, do you wanna get coffee with me?" I asked.
I heard Ludwig give a sharp intake of breath, brows furrowed, as he turned to face me from his bed. "Um..." He stuttered.
I panicked. "Oh! Oh, oh, oh! I am so sorry, this wasn't a date or anything! I wasn't suggesting that, I just though that it'd be nice to be able to know more about you and what you do and I just wanted to- now I'm talking to much and-" I rubbed my temple, a nervous habit.
"I could go for coffee." Ludwig smiled.
