Rant
Okay, this was years ago. I love reading books, so that's why I went to a bookstore and I saw this book with an anime cover. It gave me the first impression of colorful and slightly chibi, and didn't buy the book/novel. Cause I didn't feel like spending my money, or I didn't find anything interesting.
Time has passed and I knew the anime called Hetalia. Somewhere along the way, I remembered that same book I saw in the bookstore. I am very sure that it had the style of Himaruya! His current drawing style! And I never saw a pic Himaruya drew that resembles it.
It just frustrated me. Someone copied Himaruya's style, and hey I think it's still stealing! It's like stealing someone's pride, work, and soul. It is Himaruya's style, not theirs!
I was so pissed, who would publish a book with a cover style that belongs to someone else? Or simply the publisher didn't know what Hetalia even is and just agreed to publish it with an anime cover created by an outsider not from their publishing inc.. Oh, the book is not in english or Japanese by the way, it's in my nationality's language.
It's been probably a year since I last saw the book. I tried to search the image and title in the internet, even if it seemed impossible to find it because I don't know the title and publisher.
Finally... I came across it.
Tell me that isn't Himaruya's style and I swear I'll strangle you. Gah, my eyes. Gah, my disgust. Gah, the hate. Gah, my eyes. This isn't even the official cover of the book! And I can't see the cover illustrator's name.
Boom, there you go. The official covers. Book 1 and book 2. And guess what? The Illustrator's name isn't there! Only the author!
The difference between the book covers is the background, the color of the background. Ugh. Kinda pathetic.
I searched the story in Wattpad, yes it's a Wattpad book that's been published. Don't bother searching because it ain't english.
In the description, it didn't say the Illustrator's name. No credit, no nothing. I looked at the author's profile, she ain't a Hetalian but she knows anime.
There should be at least someone or some credit to who made the cover. I found nothing at the introduction, and I went straight to the ending and looked at the comments.
A-ha! I found the person who made the cover. Yes, the person knows Hetalia. That person made a cover for that book, and some publisher came in and didn't mind changing the cover and just published it.
The worst part is, the author didn't credit the person who made the cover. The publisher didn't credit the person who made the cover. The person who made the cover didn't even say in the comments that he copied Himaruya's style.
Ugh. I'm so frustrated right now.
As much as I want to say the author's username, the person who made the cover, and the publisher... Let me be kind and don't do it, yes? Or hey, if someone asks in the comments and I feel like the author and illustrator deserves it... I'll tell you. If you think lady_phoenix16 is the author, you're wrong. She changed her username.
The artists that copies Himaruya's style when drawing Hetalia is fine, cause it's fan art, duh. There's nothing wrong with that.
The point: Copying Himaruya's style or anyone's style is alright, as long as it remains in the category of fanart and you credit the person that inspired you. If your work has been published or printed, put the illustrator's name/username. A publisher should always change the cover and make their own because it is called "originality" when it comes to publishing books.
Ignorance, people. The more you become ignorant, you'll fall to going stupid.
If the author, illustrator, or publisher sees this... You think you'll get away with it? No! If the author or illustrator, or their followers reports me, dafuq? They have some nerves to do so. If I got kicked out of Wattpad, I ain't coming back with a new account. So, #YOLO. If you see that my account is gone or any of my works, you know the reason.
Respect begets respect.
Guys, prove to me that if you mess with a Hetalian, you mess with all Hetalians!
