Sleeping Pills

Alfred's P.O.V

I can't, I can't take it anymore. I keep having those nightmares; They're always the same, me, somewhere dark and after a while it begins to rain blood. I hear monsters in the distance, sniffing me out. They all resemble cryptids; like corpses, appearing as if they're in the middle of rotting. The monster's bones would be visible through the rotting flesh and tight muscle.

Every state I go to they change, turning into another monster. I'm in Minnesota, here comes a wendigo, New Jersey say hello to the Jersey Devil, Louisiana come to me my little Rigarou. Now that i'm in Mississippi i'm scared to know what comes next. After I told Dr. Lovecraft (My psychiatrist) about the nightmares, he said it was linked to some unknown anxiety that I've had for a while supposedly . Bullshit if you ask me, but I have to give to him, the pills he gives me work like a charm.

I checked into my hotel, the meeting building was only about 30 miles away. I yawn to myself,

"Christ," I say while rubbing my eyes,"How long has it been since I've slept?" I mummur to myself. "Maybe I should..." my eyes wander to the bed, I shake my head,

"No, too risky," I say. Walking to the bathroom and doing my business. Laying back on the bed I flick on the TV and find a beginning program of, "The Twilight Zone" and Rod Sterling was beginning to tell the plot of tonight's episode. In the middle of it I started to become drowsy, my eyelids beginning to become heavy, eyes felling a bit dry and burning. Slumping my shoulders down, I know I can't avoid it, I have to sleep.

I just hope to god that this one won't be as bad as the previous ones

Closing my eyes I come into a deep sleep, darkness clouding my sight. Feeling my body toppling over and me falling flat on my side. I see that around me being created is a wooded clearing. The trees thin and grey, the bumps on them resembling blisters. I see that I'm still in my casual clothing, along with my pants having a bit of mud of them for some reason. Looking around the clearing I see that everything else is dark and shadowed except for where I am. Mustering up the courage to walk away I grab out my phone and turn on the flash light, seeing my way through the darkness.

Walking through the thicket of trees I hear the faint hoots of owls and  scurries of wild animals in place of the night's silence. Then suddenly I hear something,

SNAP!

I start to walk faster with my hear thumping in my chest, "Maybe i'm just freaking out over nothing." I think to myself

SNAP!  and then a gurgle that came from the bottom of something's throat

"Nevermind."

I break into a run and find myself in the same clearing once more.

"W-what?" I say, with my body trembling in fear. "Did I go in a circle?" In shaking like a chihuahua now, my breathing going into a crazy spasm. I hear it coming closer and when I hear the rustle of the trees behind me I know i'm done for. I stupidly turned my head towards it and soaked in a sight I hope to never see again. The monster this time was something not like the the other one's I've seen before. It was around 5 feet tall, it's skin grey and wrinkly eyes the size of large almonds. Around it's ears were protrusions that resembled carrots, along with the area around it's slit nose. The hands had no fingers, instead there were pincers and the legs were fused as one, making one long stump about 6-9 inches thick beneath it's fat stomach.

The creature made a strange clicking nose as it came towards me hopping. Strangely this one wasn't as threatening as the other ones that have haunted me before, it resembled an alien and wasn't all that scary looking, I still backed away though. Picking up a large rock in my head to bash it in the head with. Yet the closer it came it's mouth widened showing jagged sharp teeth. The thing came closer, the clicking and gurggling noise becoming louder.

I'm shaking even harder now, I can't move, it's getting closer and closer and before I  can raise the rock to beat at it's temple.

BLACK

I wake up in a cold sweat, shaking violently as I had been before. There are small tears coming out of my eyes. "Why?" I ask, "Why can't I have a good night's sleep without those STUPID pills!" I rock back and forth, turning my head to the clock I see the time 4:30 AM. How did this happen? That one lasted less than an hour? Anyway, I can't function like this anymore. Out of my suitcase I grab a small orange bottle and unscrew the cap. Slipping 2 small teal pills in my hand I swallow them and lie on my bed, falling into a deep dreamless sleep.

I wake up again (without the disgusting pool of sweat beneath me) sitting myself up and taking a couple deep breathes I walk to the bathroom with my suitcase and take a shower and change. After I was finished changing I looked in the mirror. God, I look like a heroin addict; My eyes are starting to have bags under them, my hair messy and greasy, along with my skin getting this sickly pale tone. I drove to the meeting in what was basically silence. The radio made a hissing noise, so like a normal person I turned it off, but then I heard something. In the distance I heard a clicking from the mouth and the distinct gurgle of the monster from last night? I'm begging to shake like I had before, gripping the steering wheel so tight that it made my knuckles white.

I manage to keep it together long enough to make it to the meeting hall, but it's still there. The clicking becoming louder, I'm rocking back and forth now, I think i'm having a panic attack; my breathing is becoming disoriented and everything seems to be spinning. I run into the meeting hall and spot Matt. Running up to him like a maniac I put a death grip on his arms and stare at him like I just saw a ghost.

"M-ma-Matt you h-have to help me," I wheeze out at him, my head becoming swimmy. He looks at me for a second, and leads me down to a chair as he sits down in the one next to me. "OK, what's wrong Al? You doing ok, you look like you saw a ghost." He questions to me

"I think i'm entering a psychosis," I whisper loudly to him, my face sweating. He rolls his eyes, "Al, i'm sure you're fine. You're probably just a little stressed eh?"

"B-b-but the thing, and the clicking, and, a-a-and-" he cuts me off,

"Just calm down and I'll go get you some water." He tells me as he leaves. I know i'm not crazy, that noise isn't all in my head, it's real I know it, I know it. Matt comes back with a small Styrofoam cup, filled with water and hands it to me to drink. I go through the meeting trying not to talk as not to alarm people. Whenever I look around I see small glimpses of the creature along with the sounds getting louder, making the fear in my stomach expand. When it's over Matt insisted he drive me home, "I can't have you driving, not in your state right now," he says. I don't try to argue with him, in my state if I continued to drive I'd probably flip my car over in a ditch.

Matt walks me to my hotel room when we get there, he tells me, no, more like forces me to come with him and Francis to go out to eat. I dunno if I should actually go with them or not. I feel a bit sleepy, I don't know why though, I woke up less then 7 hours ago. But, now I feel drowsy again. Walking like a drunkard to the bathroom I get the orange bottle and chug down a handful of pills, making me pass out on the spot.

My vision shows me I'm in the same clearing, I grab the large rock before hand to make sure I have some kind of protection. The dream isn't any different as last time. I walk in a circle through the woods, hear the sounds that are driving me slowly crazy, and then I see the monster,

It comes close to me again, widening it's mouth and showing off it's sharp teeth and now disgusting slits on it's neck resembling gills, reminding me of the creature from the black lagoon. I begin to ready my throwing arm but I do nothing, I'm stuck. Shaking like a small dog, my palms sweaty, and my breathing becoming erratic. The monster comes close, too close for comfort now. I hear it's breathing, making me shake more violently. It's pincers snap at my sides, making blood gush out near my kidneys,

Snap snap!

They go for my arms next making the same result as they did my sides, then, they reach the same level as my neck. Through the clicking and gurgling I hear something that frightened me even more  then every other nightmare i've ever had. It was a masculine voice, (Similar to Matthew's) it said,

"Al, you should really stop taking these pills."
