Chapter 2 - Auras
Many conifers populated the vast forest around us. The grass under our feet was fine and green. The wind almost didn't blow, which gave us the impression of suffocating while we breathed normally. The air was hot and damp. We were finally there, on the territory of one of the most powerful pack: Stone's pack.
We made sure we did not show how nervous we were. However, I was impatient and curious to see them and then to return to our territory. Given that I was the only woman in the midst of these men, I felt uncomfortable and spied on all sides. Since we had crossed their domain, we had an escort that led us to the rendezvous point. A place surrounded by redwoods bearing their green thorns planted on a thick and cracked bark. Beautiful and intimidating.
I set back with the other warriors as people spoke on our right. I just looked at my feet, but I had to fix them straight in the eyes to see their auras. This was not easy, because as they approached, different waves of power emerged. Some of our warriors had a sudden lack of oxygen followed by a jerky breath. The tension was getting worse. We were uncomfortable and they seemed rather relaxed and delighted with them. Stupid power of domination.
Without turning towards me, I heard Jake ask me if I was okay by the pack's link. I answered him with a telepathic "Yes." He didn't seek further knowing that I would only respond by monosyllables because of my nervousness.
A blond man with the magnificent blue eyes I assumed to be the Beta was in front of the other men. No woman on the horizon. I saw them sniff the air and then put their eyes on me. Some had an impassive face while others were clearly surprised that a woman was present. It was so embarrassing. Still, I should get used to it.
Neither too big nor too small, I was thin and rather muscular thanks to my many hours of training. I didn't have a slender body like mannequins, but I felt good this way. I put my hand through my long black hair that I had left loose in case I should change back to my wolf form. I sighed and made sure to leave my green emerald eyes fixed on the ground until they stood in front of us.
"I'm Beta Luke Carter. Please excuse Alpha Adam, he's a little busy, but he should not be long to come," he announced with a charming smile. The perfect beautiful kid.
"I'm Alpha Jake, this is my Beta Samuel Ross, the others behind me are warriors."
Jake introduced me as a warrior. But over the past year, I acted more like a councilor in the eyes of our neighboring territories.
There was a silence. Heavy, which wanted to be heavy. I slowly raised my head to see a pair of blue eyes peering at me with a puzzled and curious face like a lot of their men. I tried not to show it, but deep down I felt like a mouse in the middle of cats ready to make a bite out of me. I took hold of myself and tried not to touch my hair or squirm in all directions because of my nervousness.
I did my best to avoid the few glances filled with desires that only repelled me. I blotted out those wolf-like eyes from my memory and continued to discreetly examine the other warriors.
An aura consisted of a rainbow of colors. Each halo had several layers of colors, but only one dominated. It was this that defined the deepest nature of being. From what I saw, no one had any harmful thoughts. Everyone seemed good, of course I could not be 100 percent sure. They were all werewolves and they had all already killed at least one person, so dark colors shaded their auras, but they were not dark as when one feels harm to others. In general, people whose dominant color was in tones such as violet, sky blue, light green, orange-yellow, light red and white was what I called good people.
But that was not all, the aura consisted of several states. For example, I noticed that this vaporous print became brighter if one was intelligent. And if one had a strong will, the aura became powerful, sometimes crushing. It was frightening to know at a glance the first nature of strangers, but it was still amazing to be able to see all these magnificent colors that blended and harmonized around a body.
After I finished analyzing them, I realized that they looked at us as if they were judging us. To tell the truth, we were doing the same thing on our side. Except me.
I plunged my green eyes into those of the Beta and perceived an aura of violet and white color. I frowned, staring at him. Then I remembered reading in the many books on angels that only people with an angelic ascendant possessed a light of this kind. Coming out of my trance, his face looked at me with a strange air. I gave him a shy smile as an excuse and then turned my face towards Jake.
"Jake, I'm done. They all look good. I'll warn you if I see anything suspicious."
Beta Luke looked at our telepathic exchange with a hint of curiosity. Then, sounds of footsteps were heard and we discovered the Alpha that everyone is afraid of being the enemy. What had been omitted from me was how handsome he was.
From his proud gait, I could see how great he was. Really big, maybe a little less than two meters. His ebony black hair was slightly wavy and in battle. It was a temptation for me. His deep, cold gray eyes swept over us to stop at me. I lowered my head quickly, but I had time to see his angular face slightly surprised. His black shirt was beautifully shining his broad shoulders and his imposing musculature.
I wanted to get close to him, touch him. At the cost of an effort, I managed to look away from his chest. I took a deep breath to calm myself down. I didn't dare raise my head. His silhouette was imposing, even frightening and yet, as a woman, I could not deny her masculine beauty.
I felt Lulu in my head. She, who had remained quiet until now, was moving as if something or someone disturbed her. I stared at my left as if someone could come out of nowhere. After all, I'm there as a warrior so be in the shoes of this character. But I knew that it was only an excuse not to admire again the man who had just arrived.
While the two Alphas spoke of alliances and strategies against the rogue wolves who attacked packs, my thoughts began to drift towards his magnificent, deep, rocky voice. I swept them from my head and told myself I had to look at the Alpha one day or another to see his aura.
"Lucy, can I trust him?" Jake's voice echoed in my head.
I took my courage in both hands and raised my eyes to this mighty Alpha. He stared at Jake intimidatingly, then his gray eyes clung to mine. I concentrated and saw an aura of a very bright purple which attenuated the dark side of his aura. I was subjugated by her luminous emanation as if she called me and told me to come to him.
"Lucy," Jake said to me. I breathed slowly and gently to try to regain control of my thoughts.
Embarrassed by this urge to come closer to him, I quickly looked at the ground. This man made me feel emotions that I no longer wanted to show to anyone. I had spent years building this wall between myself and others and he made me feel the emotions I had locked up inside me.
Trying to think of something else, I turned my senses away to the extent of trees on my left. I heard distant sounds of footsteps. People running. Two people, a man with steps heavier than the woman who was behind. Why would a woman pursue a man? I could feel blood but I didn't know who it belonged to. Werewolves near Stone's territory were a very dangerous situation. He would not hesitate to have them killed if they trampled on his territory.
My legs long and muscular began to advance towards the two intruders running. But a heavy and ferocious groal made me stop.
Surprised and slightly frightened, everyone, me first, turned to the source of this primal and instinctive grunt. Eyes filled with anger clung to mine. Troubled, this feeling that it emitted spread like a smoke. I looked back. We stared at each other for several seconds that seemed interminable. No one around us dared to move. Some even held their breaths. Why was Alpha Adam reacting like this? A reply was soon received.
"You wanted to get away from him, that's why he reacted like that," whispered my wolf.
"What do you mean?" I asked with confusion.
"Do not get angry. Her wolf chose me as a companion."
Alpha Adam was my mate?
