142. Y'all ever in the mood
to learn a new language, go to a different country, and never think about your old life again??? Me neither.
Anyways, attempting to learn Icelandic so that's fun!
Pronunciation is muy difícil and so is spelling because they're letters that aren't a part of the Latin alphabet so I'm just staring at þ and ð trying to figure out what the fuck those are lmao. This is go great :)
Góðan daginn! Ég heiti Ches. Ég er frá Bandarikijunum (the word for the United States is fucking wild) og ég tala ensku. Ég er að læra íslansku.
Also the thing I'm using doesn't put the English translation so I'm just having to guess and use context clues (and maybe a teensie bit of google translate) to figure out what the fuck these words mean lmao
But I've figured out that er is singular is/are and eru is plural. Like "Hún er frá Póllandi" (She is from Poland) and "Þau eru frá Íslandi" (They are from Iceland). And that you can combine some words into one. Like you can just add a u to the end of the word "Are" (Ert) to make it "Are you.."(Ert þú/Ertu) and with words that end in r like "heitir" you just add a ð and a u to make "Hvað heitirðu?" instead of "Hvað heitir þú?" (What is your name?).
Ooo also with the word heitir. You use heiti to refer to yourself and your own name. Heitir when you're asking someone/referring to a singular person's name and heita when you're listing names. Like, again, Ég heiti Ches. Hún heitir Ewa. Þeir heita Daniel og Franz.
And double l makes a k sound I think? Like stóll sounds kinda like stók.
Apologies for this random info dump about a language you probably don't care about but I'm having loads of fun trying to figure this shit out lmao.
I'll probably end up giving up in a couple days but I'm having fun at the moment!
Anyways: Hæ! Hvað segurðu gott?
