Chapter 21

"Hold on, I'm coming," Karin shouted when the person at the door started to bang on the door after constantly pressing on the door bell had not gotten them immediate action.

Hell what could be so flipping important that they are banging and pressing the doorbell at the same time! The closer she got to the door the more annoyed she became.

"Hey would you----"

The words that were erupting from her in annoyance died away as she stared at a disheveled Dustin.

"What the hell happened to you?" she found herself questioning instead as she stared at him all rumpled and worry worn.

"Karin have you seen Misty?" he asked, ignoring her shocked and curious expression as she eyed him.

The sound of Misty's name brought a sour taste to the situation and filled her with sudden deep rooted worry. She feared that something was happening and that it was going to cause a catastrophic outcome.

She felt it in the pit of her stomach.

Quickly she turned and looked up the stairs to ensure that her mum was still asleep. With quick and purposeful strides she stepped outside and dragged Dustin to the porch swing and questioned. "What the hell is going on?!"

With a sigh he gave Karin a brief synopsis of Misty's behaviour as well as what he had discovered in her room earlier and how concerned he was for the wellbeing of her friends.

"Holy crap!" she swore getting up from the swing and pacing on trembling legs in front of a frustrated Dustin.

"For Christ sake stop pacing. Have you seen Misty or not?!" he growled as his agitation increased.

"No...no I..I haven't," she stammered as her mind raced with bits and pieces of the day's event that this revelation had jarred to the forefront of her thoughts. "Come to think of it Lisa was acting a bit cautious earlier when we were at the diner."

"Do you think Misty said something to her?"

"To be honest, I was caught up in another personal matter. I was not the least bit thinking about Misty," she replied feeling a slight tinge of regret. "I must tell you that I was more concerned with teaching Misty a lesson for pushing up on Erin than I was about what might have happened to Misty.

I just wanted to teach her a lesson for taking Lisa for granted like that. I did not know there was so much intensity around her feelings for Erin.''

"What exactly did you do?" he asked quietly.

He watched as her cute straight face turned red with embarrassment and her eyes dipped away from his as she told him all about the pictures Lisa sent of Erin and her together before and after taking their relationship to the next level in a whatsapp group she had created for just that purpose so that they could rub Misty's face into what her interference in her friend's relationship had resulted into.

"Shit," he groaned as he dragged his dainty fingers with their ink blue nail polish through his matching colour streaked hair causing it to stand further on end.

"I think I should call Lisa." Karin said as she fished her phone from the back pocket of her ripped jeans. She said that Erin texted her earlier saying he had a surprise for her."

"What did you just say?!" Dustin said getting up so quickly from the porch swing he bumped his head into one of

the dangling flower pots.

Karin continued to dial her friends' number. Her mind raced with a thousand and one dreadful thoughts as she felt like hell that she could be the reason for any one of them be falling Lisa as they stood there. It was Dustin grabbing her by the shoulders shaking her to get her attention and then repeating his question that stilled her progress.

"What?!" she breathed in a shaky voice.

"Did you say Erin texted Lisa?"

"Yeah."

"Fuck!" he swore then started to rush from the porch.

"What is it?!" she cried and rushed after him.

He paused long enough to reply.

"It wasn't Erin that texted Lisa. It was Misty!"

She stared at him questionly, but when she realized he was almost in his car she followed without a moment's hesitation and made her way around the passenger side of his car. When she buckled herself in she was trembling with fear.

She would never get over it if something was to happen to Lisa, and more do seeing it was all her fault. It was her idea to teach Misty a lesson to put s plan in motion that could be their friend's demise.

She sighed, look where it could all lead now this stupid decision to spite Misty.

"Did she say anything to indicate where they were going?" he asked as they screeched from the curb.

"No, but maybe if we rush we can get to her house and stop something drastic from happening. It's a school night so Lisa will ensure it's not a late night out. So we can use that to our advantage right?"

It was a desperate cry of hope in her friend's strict regime in adhering to parents rules and regulations. With a quick glance at her phone she saw that it was at 2% and she cursed. There was no way she could call Lisa now.

Please don't let her be too late. It was now 6:30 by the dashboard clock of Dustin's car. But she could not let go off the fear that Lisa had already left home because with the 9 p.m curfew regulated on school night no doubt she would want to use time wisely to spend as much time as possible with Erin. Only it was not Erin she was meeting.

"Hurry," she pleaded as a thousand and one awful thoughts swirled around in her mind.
