Chapter 11
Karin stared at the computer in bewilderment before talking to Lisa, who was holding up a crotchless royal blue lace teddy with a deep v-cut bodice.
She was not going to question where Lisa got the teddy. She was, however, going to share her concerns about her decision to sleep with Erin.
"Are you serious about this?"
"I wouldn't Skype you, Karin, if I didn't want your input, so should I wear the wrap or not?" Lisa said holding the assembly closer to the camera.
"For the love of me I can't tell you diddly squat about lingerie," she said with a self-directed giggle, then added seriously, "but I can sure as hell tell you that you better be serious about sleeping with Erin. It's not like you can go back and take your virginity from him if the shit should hit the fan further down the line."
"I know, but I wouldn't be considering going this far if it wasn't what I wanted," she smiled reassuringly at her friend. "Now cover-up or no cover-up?"
"Shit, I doubt the cover-up would matter. That thing is scandalous either way," she replied and they both burst out laughing.
Earlier through a series of messages, Lisa had shared what Misty had done. It had made her feel bad about not sharing with Lisa beforehand her realization of Misty's deep, possessive attraction to Erin, but she had not wanted to be the bearer of such news.
Nonetheless, she was happy Lisa found out and that Erin had not kept it a secret about what Misty had done. Her coming clean with a series of apologies and receiving Lisa's understanding had made her come to terms with that as Lisa's friend, it was not up to her to shield her from lies but to protect and support her when truths are hard and hurtful.
She, however, did not owe Misty any such courtesy, so she had put in place a plan that would teach Misty a lesson.
When they were through laughing Karin told her she had put into place a plan she had devised to teach Misty a lesson. Lisa listened attentively as she shared the details. Her blue eyes were sad when she glared at the camera, and it hurt Karin that Lisa was hurting because she cared for Misty despite what she had done.
She quickly diverted to the matter at hand, hoping to relieve Lisa of the hurt of her friend's betrayal.
"I will be going by the Weavers at 7 to babysit, they said by 11 they should be back from the outing, but my mum won't be off until around 11:30. I asked her to drop by and pick me up on the way so you have the house to yourself with time to spare, make the most of it," she winked causing Lisa to blush beautifully, "and I placed all my mum's scented candles that she stashes at the back of the bathroom cabinet because of her sinus in the guestroom to add some ambiance."
At this, they both end up laughing again. When they both got their laughter under control, Lisa rang off, leaving her to wonder if Misty was the devil's advocate or fate's hand in Lisa's life. She thought of all the wrong possibilities that could play out of this one choice and how it could break apart something worth cherishing. She sighed pushing the dismal thoughts away.
With a final check to see that everything was in place, Karin made a light dinner and tidied up before getting herself ready to go by the Weavers. When she slipped the key beneath the flower pot she texted Lisa.
'Enjoy the love shack'.
'Most definitely.'
'Just so you know I created the WhatsApp group. I added Misty so that you can post messages and pictures to get her to see just what she's messing with.'
'Lovely.'
'Have fun.'
'Most definitely.'
Karin laughed at the tone of their message, and after they ended their chat, she again prayed that her friend was not making a mistake. The circumstances leading to Lisa making such a big step had her heart beating with apprehension.
There was never an occasion where wrongs made things right. Or could Misty's two wrongs make it right for Lisa and Erin?
As she hurried on her way she thought about what lay ahead for all of them. She really hoped that Misty would realize that Erin was never hers, to begin with.
She also hoped Erin would realize the step that Lisa was making for him.
He was not the type of guy she knew who took things for granted. He really considered people and was a really great guy at heart. She knew he loved Lisa, and it was not because she was stunning and popular but because she was a loving, caring, and motivating young woman who was not caught up by her beauty.
Yes, she was a cheerleader, but she was not like those high school self-absorbed beauties who formed their callous league and trampled down on everyone who did not fit into their selfish, egotistical band.
She knew Lisa did not hang out with the cheerleaders unless it was for practices and performances at various events. She took her studies seriously and was busy working at the animal shelter as she had hopes of being a veterinarian.
She helped out at the elder's home where her grandmother was now housed, and her parents were unable to provide the time she would need for proper care. She was a loving friend who was not afraid to put herself out on a limb for anyone who she cared for.
Lisa was not the cliche blonde; beautiful and dumb. She was an intelligent, selfless young woman who she was happy was her friend. Oftentimes she put herself on the back burner so that those around her could be happy. All she asked in return was respect and understanding for the choices she made.
If sleeping with Erin tonight was what would make her happy, then she would ensure no one went in the way of not making that happen, and most of all, if that person was Misty.
She thought back to how they were always inseparable; they were jokingly called the three musketeers, and their friendship had been based on the foundation of support and sisterly love, but Erin came, and it all changed.
She glanced at her watch and saw that it was almost half an hour before she was going to make Misty pay for her ungratefulness. She giggled with anticipation.
She wished she could see the look on her face when she saw what her selfishness had led to. Her interference in Lisa and Erin's relationship was the one route in her life she was going to regret taking. She wished deep down things were different, but this was how Misty wanted to play, so that's what they would do.
Misty has chosen the wrong guy to be obsessed with.
