Attempted Rescue

Rose's eyes slowly fluttered open and she groaned as she sat up. She realized they were still in the car and the sun hadn't come up yet. "Did you have a nice rest?" Sylar asked. Rose shot him a glare.

"Have you been driving all night?" she asked groggily.

"Yes and we're almost to our first stop." She let out a big yawn and stretched as best as she could in the car.

"Where are we stopping at?"

"Some place with good food because I'm starving and I'm sure you are to," he answered.

"Something tells me we won't be there long," Rose thought aloud.

"Very perceptive. No our 'actual' stop is where my first kill will be. Like I said, I have others I won't to kill before taking you in," Sylar pointed out. Rose only nodded and looked out her window as the sun started to rise. "What do you prefer, burgers or sandwiches?"

"Burgers and some soda or a milkshake would be good right now to," she answered.

"Don't try anything stupid while we're here, I'd hate to see you upset if anyone gets hurt," Sylar bossed her around as he pulled into the parking lot of a burger joint.

"We're going inside to eat?" Rose was surprised.

"Did you think I would let you eat in the car and risk you spilling ketchup or something in  my clean car?" Sylar asked matter of factly. Rose opened her car door and stretched, taking in the fresh air of where ever the heck they were. Her shirt rose, slightly exposing her abs and Sylar couldn't help but notice her fit body.

"Why are you staring at me like that?" she asked worried. He shook his head and forced her to walk forward. Rose had no choice but to do what she was told. She sat down at a spot by the window, watching the cars as they passed by. A waitress immediately came to take their orders.

"Hi, my name is Charlie and I'll be your waitress to day," she introduced herself in a very thick country accent, "What can I get for ya today?"

"I'll take a burger with extra meat and cheese on it with a cup of coffee," Sylar said without looking at a menu.

"And what would you like dear?" Charlie asked, writing down Sylar's order.

"Your paying right?" Rose asked Sylar.

"You're out of money so obviously," he said kind of rudely.

"I'd like a cheeseburger, fries, a large chocolate shake and a bag of cookies please," she smiled tightly when she saw the look on Sylar's face.

"Comin right up," Charlie smiled sweetly.

"Why did you order so much food?" Sylar asked.

"Because I am very hungry, I wanted snacks for the road, and I take advantage of people whenever I can," she explained smoothly. Sylar opened his mouth to say something, but thought better of it. "Besides, if I'm to die in a matter of days, then I want to enjoy every last meal I can get," she added. Sylar nodded. Rose was munching on her fries when Sylar got up.

"I'm going to use the restroom, so stay here. Try anything stupid, and that family over there dies," Sylar warned. Rose looked at the young family of three and her heart sank knowing that she couldn't take that away from them. She watched him like a hawk and as soon as he rounded the corner, Rose jumped from her seat and went to the boy and his father sitting across from her.

"Can I please borrow your phone? Mine is dead and my friend is in the rest room."

"Of course," the father of the boy smiled. Rose quickly dialed his number.

"Peter it's me. I'm at some diner and I don't know where I'm at. The waitress here is a red head with a really thick country accent and that's about all I can tell you. I'm safe and have a few days," Rose quickly got out.

"Rose!" Peter said relieved, "Are you hurt?"

"No, no, I'm fine for the time being. Sylar said something about another stop along the way, that's all I know, I'm sorry," Rose informed him.

"It's ok, that's all I needed to know. Charlie is Hiro's girlfriend," Peter told her. Rose smiled, knowing she'd be fine.

"I have to go before he knows what I've done. I love you," Rose said, hanging up. "Thank you," she handed the phone back to the man and sat down, quickly going back to munch on her fries. Rose smiled to herself for her quick little plan, hoping beyond hope that Peter would find her.

"Excuse me," the man across from her asked, "Is it true what you said?"

"Yes, the man I'm with has orders to kill me and I need to get back to my boyfriend. The man warned me if I tried anything stupid that he'd start killing people in here. If I were you, I'd leave here as soon as I could," Rose urged them.

"You heard the woman, let's get out of her Micah," the boys father led him out the door. Just then, Sylar came back.

"Almost done?"

"Yep," Rose answered, finishing the last of her fries and sipping on her milkshake. "Hey, where exactly are we going after this?"

"To visit my old pops." She nodded and started on her cookies. "I'll pay and get a to-go bag," Sylar left her there again. Rose took it as another opportunity to do something. She grabbed the pen that was under the table and scribbled a note on a napkin and shoving it under her leg. "Rose, let's go," Sylar called from the counter. She followed his lead and Charlie immediately came over to clean off their table. She gasped at the napkin.

Please help me! I'm a friend of Hiro's. When Peter Petrelli comes looking for me, show this to him. We're going to "visit" Sylar's old pops. HURRY!!!

"I love you t- Rose? ROSE?!" Peter yelled into the phone, but it was already to late, she had hung up.

"What is going on?" Angela asked.

"Rose just called and I know where she is, or was anyway, but she's still in trouble," he told his mother, briskly walking back through the house to hear Hiro talking in Japanese on the phone.

"Peter, Charlie said we need to see her right away!" Hiro said urgently.

"Then let's go," Peter smiled with a newfound sense of direction. They appeared at the back door of the diner and walked around to the front. Charlie instantly greeted them and showed Peter the note. "Thank you, I know exactly where that's at."

"I need to rest, I am not fully recovered from yesterday's adventures," Hiro said.

"That's alright, you can borrow my car and Hiro can return it," Charlie offered Peter her keys. Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the apartment complex where Sylar's father lived. Peter saw no sign of Rose in Sylar's car and knew he must've forced her along.

"I can take it from here. Thanks Hiro," Peter said.

"Good luck to you my friend," Hiro smiled and started back to Charlie's car. Peter teleported himself into the bathroom of the apartment Sylar's father lived in and heard voices.

"You abandoned me!" Sylar's angered voice shouted.

"Yes and I am sorry son, but I knew your mother was better off without me," his father explained. Peter risked poking his head out of the door and saw Rose was tied to a chair looking uncomfortable, but calm. Sylar's back was to him, so he crept out and crawled to Rose. Sylar and his father were too deep in their own argument to notice what was going on. Her head jerked in the motion of the sudden movement, but held her scream in when she realized who it was. Instant relief washed over her face and Peter formed a small flame in his finger to burn through the ropes. Sylar's father scrunched his face when he saw the small flame in the back of the room, trying to figure out what was going on. Sylar followed his gaze and pointed his gun to the back of Peter's head.

"Stop it right there or this bullet is going through your head," Sylar snapped. Rose could tell the gun was actually loaded this time and grew worried. Peter put his hands up to show that he wasn't doing anything. "Good, now stand up and slowly turn around." Peter did as he was told.
