A Place to Stay

"I really wish we could've stayed longer, especially under the circumstances," Wanda said, hugging her friends goodbye.

"We can't escape life forever," Rose commented sadly.

"Amen to that, y'all have to be outta here by tomorrow night at the latest cuz my parents are coming back with my little cousin," Allison reminded them.

"How is she anyway?" Rose asked.

"Lacey is coming up on eight, she just started third grade," Allison answered.

"The last time I saw her, she was just learning to walk," Rose realized.

"They grow up so fast," Wanda sighed. "I'll see you guys over Christmas maybe? My house this time?"

"We'll see," Allison reasoned.

"Until next time my friends," Wanda waved. Allison and Rose waved back and watched her disappear into the elevator.

"Guess it's my turn to pack my bags," Rose joked.

"Yep, it was nice to see you again. I know for awhile there you were really busy."

"You know how work can get," Rose said.

"While you pack, I'm gonna run to the grocery store so the others have food when they come back," Allison announced.

"Alright, see ya in a few," Rose called from the hallway. Rose waited until she was sure Allison was good and gone before pulling out her cell phone to call Noah Bennet. It rang four times before he finally answered.

"Hello?"

"Mr. Bennet, this is Rose. I'm leaving from my time off tonight and I'll need to be re-stationed," she informed him.

"Yeah, about that," Noah answered bored, "I'm afraid that won't be necessary."

"What? Why?" Rose asked annoyed.

"You see, you only get re-stationed if you actually do your job and while you've been busy with small threats, I think you've been missing the bigger picture here," Noah explained.

"I am so sorry of someone tried to kill me and I had to rest up a bit, but I'm nowhere near healed enough to take on that kind of work," Rose said irritated with a little sarcasm.

"Then you better get some rest and quickly because if you don't take out the Petrelli's by the end of the week, I'm going to be considering somebody else for the job. I don't think you want the word to spread of your failure to complete the job now do you?" Noah threatened.

"No sir," Rose spat and hung up. "Where the hell am I supposed to stay?" Rose asked herself. She was considering her options when it hit her. She wrote a note as fast as she could and changed her clothes. Rose headed out the door when her stomach started growling. "Lunch didn't last that long," she thought annoyed. She left the note on the kitchen table and hoped that Allison would understand.

"Hi, ah, I need a visitor's badge. Think you could help me?" Rose asked the receptionist at the front desk.

"Yes of course; If you could sign in on the line here and sign out when you're done," she said gesturing towards a clipboard. Rose jolted down her fake name and reason for being there. "Do you know where you're going ma'am?" the nurse asked, handing Rose the badge.

"Yes, I can find my way from here," Rose answered with a hurried smile. She quickly walked to the elevator and impatiently waited for it to drop her off. "Finally!" Rose exclaimed, practically jumping out of the elevator and followed the hall to the main lobby's front desk.

"Hi, how can I help you?" the secretary asked.

"I'm looking for Peter Petrelli, can you see if he's here right now please?" Rose asked nicely. The secretary typed away and checked a log.

"I have to make a call, so please wait a moment," she said, dialing a number. "Hey, is Peter helping in the ER right now or is he on the streets?" there was a pause, "Ok, when he's done, please tell him to report here. Yes, ok, thank you," she hung up and turned her attention back to Rose. "He'll be here as soon as he can, please have a seat over there."

"Thank you," Rose said and sat by the window. It was mid-day and she could see all of the hustle and bustle on the streets below. How intriguing everything looked from way up there. Rose heard rushing feet and got all excited, but it wasn't Peter, it was a man with his little girl who looked pretty worried. Rose sat back in her chair and thought about what it would be like to have a family who loved and cared for her. "Right now, it's just me, myself, and I."

Before long, Rose heard more rushing feet, but they sounded less desperate. "You asked for me?" she heard a familiar voice say. She turned her head and quickly got to her feet. Peter cautiously walked up to her, seeming startled.

"Hey...what are you doing here?" he asked.

"I um, I needed to see you," Rose answered nervously.

"You're ok, right? Nothing happened? No allergies or postponed healing?" Peter asked searching her eyes for any signs of hurt.

"No, I'm fine; I came here to ask you something, a favor actually," she said slowly, getting caught up in the way he was looking at her.

"Um, sure, what's up?"

"I um, I sorta...need a place to stay and not like that," Rose quickly added when she saw Peter raise an eyebrow, "I only need somewhere to stay until Saturday night."

"What happened to you friends?" he asked.

"Wanda left this morning and Allison's parents are coming back with her cousin. Her apartment is nice, but not nice enough for that many people. She said I had to be out by tonight. I know it's last minute, but please, I have nowhere else to go," Rose pleaded.

"Ok, but I have to clock out first." Rose was taken back.

"Really? You're ok with that?" she asked hopeful.

"Why not? It's just until the end of the week and it's not like I saved you or anything," Peter joked. Rose smiled. Peter glanced around and lowered his voice, "Turn in your badge and wait for me downstairs; I'll only be a minute."

"Ok," Rose breathed as she peered into his dark eyes. Neither one of them wanted to leave the other, but someone had to go before they got stares, so Peter slowly backed away and headed down the hall.

Rose couldn't contain her smile as she rode the elevator back down the main floor. "What a lucky girl I am," she thought, "I still don't know how I'll be able to kill him, or his family for that matter, but hey, looks aren't always what they seem."
