July 12th
Annabeths eyes opened to the sun shining through her curtains. Sure, it was a relaxing way to wake up, but she wished she could sleep a bit longer. In theory, she could, but for Annabeth it didn't work like that. Once she woke up she was awake and there was no hope of falling asleep again. This fact always annoyed her, if she'd woken up in the middle of the night due to a nightmare she just couldn't go back to sleep. No matter how hard she tried.
After she'd woken up she would usually lay on her bed for quite a while, not moving or doing anything (cause you need to move to do things, duh), but today's was different. Today was July 12th, her birthday. The day she was turning 16. The day she would get her mark, her tattoo. The first, and only clue to who her soulmate is. The only clue to who she was destined to spend the rest of her life with. Just thinking about it made her shiver. She was terrified. What if he, or she, wasn't a good person? What if her tattoo was ugly or something?
The thoughts continued to circulate around her mind until she decided to just get it over with. She took a deep breath, and looked down at her right wrist. This might seem intense, a little- who am I kidding?- a lot too intense but for Annabeth this was life changing. Once she'd actually looked down at said tattoo she felt a wave, a tidal wave, of relief wash over her. On her wrist she found a beautiful tattoo. It showed a wave inside of a circle. And then behind the wave stood a bold trident.
She started at the tattoo for quite a while, it was just so much more than she'd been expecting! Then a sudden feeling of sadness came over her. How was she going to find him? It definitely didn't help that her father and her step-mother was sending her to Chiron Academy for Troubled Teens.
A boarding school for kids who had a hard time in school. Either if they caused a lot of trouble, or, like her case, they had something that held them back, like dyslexia. Sure, Annabeth was glad to have help and, maybe, actually show her true potential. She was smart, it seemed that everyone but the teachers and her parents knew that. She just couldn't show it with her dyslexia and ADHD. She still didn't see why she had to go to some boarding school for it. She was doing fine in school- okay, maybe a little less than fine.
But who knows? Destiny always ensured that you would meet your soulmate. Maybe he'd go to the same school? Maybe they'd meet during summer break? Or maybe they'd meet after she got out of school? The possibilities were endless. Her head perked up as she heard her two younger half-brothers making noise. Matthew and Bobby could be truly annoying when they wanted to, and when they didn't want to, or at least mean to, as well. Helen, her step-mother was pretty nice as well.
(Remember, Helen didn't like Annabeth because she caused monsters to come after them. I read about her, she was actually a good step-mother except for the spider thing. Even in that she wanted to help Annabeth overcome her fear of spiders)
Annabeth reluctantly left her warm bed and walked over to her closet. She pulled out a white tank top and a pair of light blue denim shorts. She slipped into the clothes and closed the wardrobe. She walked over to her windows and pulled her curtains away from the window, letting sun shine into her room. She turned away from the window and walked out of her room and ran down the stairs. She could hear talking from the kitchen. So, she walked there and found Helen and her father talking.
"Oh, Annabeth!" Helen said, smiling down at her step-daughter. "Good morning."
"Good morning," Annabeth said, "What's for breakfast?"
"That's your decision," Fredrick said, smiling as well.
"Can we have pancakes?" Annabeth asked politely.
"I knew it!" Helen laughed before turning to her husband. "Told you so, now you owe me.. 25 dollars."
"Did you guys bet over what food I wanted for breakfast?" Annabeth asked, her gray eyes glancing between her step-mother and her father.
"Yes, Annabeth. We did," Helen admitted.
"Well, whats did Dad think I wanted to eat?" Annabeth asked out of curiosity.
"Scrambled eggs," Fredrick mumbled.
"What was that, Fredrick? I could hear you," Helen smirked.
"Scrambled eggs," Fredrick repeated, this time louder. Helens mocking smirk turned victorious.
Annabeth laughed and looked her father dead in the eyes. "Scrambled eggs? Seriously?"
Fredrick sighed and walked to the pantry and grabbed the needed things to make pancakes. Then he walked to the refrigerator to grab the other ingredients he needed to make pancakes.
