Chapter 27: The Betrayal

Brianna Stockman had come prepared, unfortunately. She and each of her subordinates had had manriki-gunsari around their waists but Mikey nor Leo or Casey had noticed. It took all of five minutes to finally get Leo down as both Mikey and Casey fell, and soon they were all being unceremoniously dragged onto the elevator.

"See, guys? That was so unnecessary. What a waste of time." Brianna shook her head, her tone taking on that of a disappointed mother.

Once everyone was loaded onto the elevator, Brianna pressed the button to the third floor, and the elevator jolted to life. Mikey couldn't help but notice the lack of Donnie's hacking device in the keyhole.

The doors opened, and the ninjas continued to drag Mikey, Leo, and Casey across the floor. They passed door after door. Mikey vaguely remembered that this floor was much bigger than the 5th floor. Living quarters were present here, as well as some kind of meeting room, which they had guessed was some kind of Bridgeport equivalent to the throne room back in New York City.

When the double doors opened, they were met by a wave of heat. Large, black steel torches lined the walls, illuminating the outskirts of the room, but leaving the middle dim and shadowy. At the opposite end of the room stood the large silhouette that could only be Dogpound, the floating outline of Baxter Stockman, and between them was Aiden Bradford. In the middle of the room was a chained up Donatello, Raphael, April, and Monica. Brianna walked past them as the other Foot soldiers dropped Mikey, Leo, and Casey off next to the others.

"Are you guys alright?" Leo asked.

"Oh, just peachy." Raph muttered.

"Is that everyone?" Dogpound's voice rumbled, causing goosebumps to travel along Mikey's skin.

"Unless Hamato Yoshi himself decided to tag along." Brianna answered, standing next to Aiden.

"He would never, he's the biggest coward." Dogpound smiled.

"Master Splinter has more courage in his whiskers that you have in your entire body!" April shouted, causing Dogpound's lip to curl as he growled.

"What do we do now?" Baxter asked, buzzing back and forth near Aiden and his daughter.

"Well, we're not gonna do anything." Aiden's face was sheen in the light of the flames, like he was exerting a lot of energy even though he was just standing there. His lips were curled in the smirk as his eyes locked on the Foot soldiers still standing around the Hamato Clan. "Untie them."

The soldiers hesitated for a moment, before untying the three people nearest them, which was still Mikey, Casey, and Leo. As soon as Michelangelo was freed, he had his nunchucks out and within seconds had it wrapped around his opponent. With a strong whip of the chain, Mikey threw him into the wall, causing him to knock down two steel torches, though they did not go out when they fell. When he turned around, he saw the Casey and Leo both managed to quickly dispatch their respective Foot soldier as well, and all three turned to face their other four captors, weapons at the ready.

Aiden was unwavered. "Oh, I wouldn't waste your energy on me. But I would suggest untying your friends unless you want them to die without a fighting chance."

Mikey's stomach churned, glancing at Leo, who looked at him as well, before nodding. Mikey turned and began loosening the manriki-gunsari ensnaring Donnie. Soon, the other four were freed, and the Hamato Clan turned to face the four Foot Clan henchmen.

Sweat was now dripping from Aiden's face as his crazed smile widened. "Good. This is the moment I've been waiting for." He glanced briefly between Dogpound and Stockman. "I hope you're all watching carefully so you can report to Master Shredder how beautifully I dispatched our enemies with our newest weapon."

The sound of claws scraping against the floor echoed in the room as a mass began to move from the shadows behind the Foot Clan. As the light struck her white fur, Michelangelo felt his mouth go dry and his heart stop. Her lips were curled back, revealing her long canines, and though her eyes were trained on them, they were void of sight. She was but a machine, and the gears churned at Aiden's command.

Aiden laughed. "That's right, turtles. Our family is finally reunited, and you're going to die at our hands!" He yelled, and Shelby let out a sharp bark before lunging straight at Leonardo. Leonardo was able to maneuver out of the way, and Casey and April had to scramble out of her path to avoid getting bulldozed as Shelby's paws hit the ground and her claws scraped across the wooden floors. Frost began to swell in the cracks as she stood up, unbothered by the tumble.

Her eyes locked on April and she began to move towards her. In an effort to stop her, Monica let an arrow fly and it buried itself into Shelby's shoulder. She didn't seem to even notice as she reached April, who slashed at her muzzle with her tessen in an effort to fend her off. Before Shelby could get any closer, Raph intervened, delivering a hard kick to her side. A deafening crack rang out throughout the room, but the only consequence of Raph's kick was causing Shelby to slid across the floor a couple feet. She showed no sign of being injured, though it was obvious a rib or two had been broken. Her wrath turned to the red-clad turtle, and she roared loudly, her lips curls high in a menacing snarl, her ears pulled back, her fluffy pelt puffed out, making her appear larger than she was.

"Stop, Shelby!" Mikey shouted, feeling rather sick to his stomach. "I know you're in there! I know you can snap out of it!"

Aiden laughed. "No, she's really can't, you delusional freak. She's dormant in there, completely blind and deaf as her body follows my every whim."

A growl ripped from Shelby's throat before she raced towards Mikey, her mouth open as she leaped and aimed for his throat.

Mikey was frozen in fear as he watched Shelby descend upon him, when suddenly, a chain wrapped around Shelby and yanked her off course. She slid into the flames of the torches, which had now burned wood underneath them and was in the beginning stages of a smoldering fire. Shelby's fur burned and smoke billowed around her, but she stood in place, unwavered. Actually, it seemed she was a blank slate, as if no input was coming in. Mikey looked to Aiden, whose face was no longer confident, but horrified.

Mikey followed his gaze to the source of the chain that yanked Shelby out of the way. The kyoketsu shoge dragged across the floor into the hands of its owner, dressed in Squadron Beta-X clothing, though he was not donning his mask. The heterochromic eyes of Tyler Bradford gleamed in the lights of the growing fire.

"What the hell are you doing, Tyler?" Dogpound demanded.

"What I should have done the moment I saw you lay your filthy claws on my sister." Tyler stated.

"You're making a mistake." Aiden growled.

"Actually, this is the first thing I've done in a long time that isn't a mistake." He stated, before turning to the Hamato Clan. "Listen, he's using Shelby as a wrecking ball, but if you really want to save her, you'll need to knock out Aiden."

"I have an antidote for the serum if I can just get close to her!" Donnie shouted.

"Tyler, you, me, April, and Monica, concentrate bringing Aiden down! Mikey, Raph, and Casey, you cover Donnie while he tries to administer the antidote!" Leonardo directed.

"Oh, no, you don't!" Baxter shouted, rushing forward towards Tyler and grabbing him up in the air. The attention seemed to shift from the turtles to Tyler almost completely. Dogpound jumped into action as well, running towards Tyler, but he was delayed as Leo leaped towards him and aimed his katana strikes at the fleshiest parts of his body. Brianna stayed back, unsheathing her kamas as she stood guard in front of Aiden. Monica used her bow to shoot an arrow in their direction, but Bri was quick and struck in down.

Baxter grabbed out a vile from his pocket as Shelby once against leapt into action, aiming her attack at the nearest person, which happened to be Mikey. He used his nunchucks to try to knock her to the side, though he found he did not have emotional strength in him to hit her as hard as he needed to to truly deviate her from her course. She pinned him down as Baxter attempted to smash the vile, which seemed to filled with mutagen, onto Tyler's skin. Another fired arrow buried itself into Baxter's hand, and as the vile fell to the ground, April grabbed it and threw it into the fire, which was now building in furiosity. Baxter screamed, dropping Tyler, and grabbing another vile of mutagen, dumping it onto April's head. She flinched, but was otherwise unphased, and Baxter wheeled back in shock as the mutagen did nothing to the teen.

While he was distracted, Leo came in and took a swipe at Baxter's wings, successfully slicing into one and sending him spiraling into Dogpound, and the sound of cracking glass sounded before Dogpound fell to his knees, screaming in agony as mutagen sizzled away at his flesh, which turned black.

Meanwhile, Mikey stared up into Shelby's eyes, empty of thought as she snarled, preparing to take a chunk out of his throat. He screamed, but a loud crack emitted from her skull as Donatello's bō staff smashed into her head with enough power to get her off of Mikey.

Mikey watched and waited for Shelby stand back up, and she did, but slowly, less purposefully. Mikey's attention turned to Aiden, who was gripping his head and dripping in sweat.

"Aiden's losing his connection!" Mikey shouted. "I think the blow to her head weakened it!"

Donnie rushed towards Shelby, grabbing the antidote out, but was intercepted by Brianna, who curled her kama around his wrists and wrenched the vile from his hands. Luckily, Raphael was able to swoop in and catch it. He then lunged at Shelby, but his arm was sliced into. He fell with a shout, looking up at Aiden and his gleaming blade.

"You're ruining EVERYTHING!" Aiden screamed, lifting up his blade behind his head with both hands, preparing to deal a final blow. His blade was only stopped by the metal of Casey's homemade taser, which he set off and sent Aiden crumbling to the floor.

As Casey helped Raph recover, Mikey turned his attention back to Shelby, who's eyes stared at him, but she didn't move. He look at Monica's arrow, still sticking out of her arm, the caved contour of her ribcage where Raph had landed that hard kick, the bloodied mark on her head from Donnie's bō staff, the multiple cuts on her face from April's tessen, and the singes and burns on her fur from landing and standing in the fire, which seemed to be growing higher and higher which every breath they took, smoke beginning to cover the ceiling and billow down onto all of them. Each wound weighed Michelangelo's arms and legs to the floor. He could not do that to her. He would not do that to her.

"Raph, now!" Donnie shouted. Raph tried to lunge forward again, but Brianna managed to intercept as Aiden picked his head off the ground, his crazed sapphire eyes landing on Shelby. "KILL THEM NOW!"

Like a light switch flipped, Shelby was suddenly running straight at Mikey. His pulse dipped. His muscles seized. He fumbled for the bag of rohypnol, but his fingers felt as though someone had superglued the joints in each finger. In a split second, was she upon him, her mouth wide open and descending towards his head.

And then, in an instant, Mikey was sliding across the floor, bumping into the wall as a crunch comparable to snapping a large tree branch in two echoed through the room. After that, the room was so silent that anyone within its wall would be able to hear a pin drop. Mikey looked up in horror. There, exactly where he had been, was Shelby with Casey's head in her jaws, blood and chunks of brain matter dripping from the cracks between her teeth.
