Never Meet Your Heroes
Virgil's pov.
I silently snuck into the museum, looking for my target. It was a bat-shaped statuette with red diamonds for eyes. The thing itself was made of pure black obsidian. I had managed to convince Deceit to let me keep the rest, as he only needed the eyes. I was going to replace them with amethysts. It was probably because of my recent streak of success, but I wasn't one to look the gift horse in the mouth, so I didn't question it.
I saw my target. It was on an open display, surrounded by multiple security measures. I analysed the scene, coming to the conclusion that no matter what, I would trigger at least one alarm. I chose the way with only one silent alarm, quickly taking it and getting out of there. I was running on the roof when suddenly, a wine appeared out of nowhere, pulling up a figure I had only seen on the news.
It was The Prince.
"Why Tarzan..?" I mumbled quietly, hoping he didn't hear as I tried to figure out where to go, analyzing every possible outcome. "Who are you?!" He asked. I couldn't help but smirk. "Name's Paranoia, Princey. I'd love to talk, but I got a job to do." I said before running off. "Oh no you don't!" He said, running after me while summoning… Excalibur? "Excalibur? Really?" I said as I ran faster, slightly scared of the weapon. I jumped down into an alley and teleported before he could look down. I didn't need him to know that I could teleport. I landed on my feet, rolling once to make sure I didn't break anything. I signed as I walked to Deceit's room with my prize. Welcome "home".
Roman's pov.
I was patrolling when I was notified the silent alarm of a nearby museum had been set off. I was kinda impressed with the fact that it was the only one. I created a wine to swing off of like Tarzan, landing on the roof in front of someone I had never seen before. He was holding a stolen statuette. "Why Tarzan..?" I heard him mumble, hiding my shock to the fact that he was a fellow Disney fan to question him. He was looking around, most likely analyzing every possible outcome. "Who are you?!" I asked. He smirked, looking up at me. "Name's Paranoia, Princey. I'd love to talk, but I got a job to do." Princey? Where did that come from? I shook off my shock, seeing him run away. "Oh no you don't!" I shouted, summoning Excalibur as I ran after him. "Excalibur? Really?" He said openly before jumping off of the roof. I looked down to see him gone. He probably ran off somewhere. I sighed, summoning Jack Frost's staff for the wind to take me to base. He called me Princey…
*A week later*
Virgil's pov.
I was running on the street after another heist, ditching the cops by freezing them with fear. I was looking for a hidden spot to teleport away when I heard a very gentle voice say "Hey.". I froze at his tone, turning around to face him.
It was Morality.
"You must be Paranoia." I nodded, growing slightly anxious. "I sensed a lot of fear back there. They were so terra-fied, I thought plants would grow on them!" He laughed at his own joke. I tried my best to hide my amusement from the empath. I looked around for a way out. "Are you ok? I sense a lot of sadness in you. Do you really want to do this?" I almost dropped whatever I was holding as my body shook. I didn't want to do this… An image of my brother flashed in my mind and a spark of determination went through me. I had to do this. I turned around and ran. "Hey! Come on, Kiddo…" he flew after me. I shot a wave of fear at him, freezing when I heard a scream and a thud. I turned around to see him curled up on the floor, trembling. My eyes widened when I realized why. He was an empath, of course he would be more affected! I ran to his side, taking the fear away. I picked him up as he looked up at me tiredly. "Kiddo..?" I carried him to a bench, laying him down. "You know I don't want this, but I have to. Promise you won't tell anyone." I said, almost begging. "I get it, Kiddo, I promise." I looked at him, slightly shocked before nodding, walking away. I didn't even know why I was seeking his approval. "Sorry, Pop-star…" I mumbled. Dread settled over me as I ran back "home".
Patton's pov.
I felt a last wave of dread from him as he ran off. He called me Pop-star… I got up tiredly, floating back to base. "Morality?" Prince called out. I could feel his concern. "I met Paranoia…" I said, keeping my promise as I told him and Logic what happened. He sighed. "We have to stop him." I nodded absentmindedly, changing out of my costume before walking home. I'm so tired...
*A few days later*
Virgil's pov.
I hid in the shadows as cops ran by. Deceit had told me to steal a new prototype from a lab. I was ready to meet a hero today. However, I wasn't ready for which one it was.
It was Logic. My brother.
I thought about how easy it would be. To just rip off my mask in front of him and cry in his arms as he hugged me like he used to.
But I couldn't. For his sake.
So, I continued with my plan as if he was someone else, trapping him in place with my shadows and whispering into his ear.
"From the moral to the liar,
Two men with royal power.
The coward tells the teacher,
'Freedom is such a wonder.'.
Good luck, Teach~"
I then ran off with my prize, leaving him frozen on the spot in shock. I know he's smart enough. Now to go "home"...
Logan's pov.
My brain was going a mile a minute as I ran back to base. He called me Teach... Morality must've sensed my distress, since he found me and carried me back. "What's wrong?" He asked as The Prince joined us. I told them the poem, leading them to think. "What could it mean?" Prince asked. I looked at him. "I was wondering the same thing." An idea popped into my head. "Maybe he's referring to different people? I'd imagine that "the moral" is Morality, one of "the men with royal power" is The Prince and "the teacher" is myself. "The liar" could be Deceit, the other royal is The Duke and the coward is himself." They nodded in agreement. "He said them in pairs. Is he suggesting a connection?" Morality asked. I looked at him, taken aback. "Astute observation, Morality. You may be correct." He smiled brightly. "What about the last line?" Prince asked. "He's most likely suggesting a lack of free will from himself, us or his entire group." Morality looked down, looking troubled. Ugh, emotions, the bane of my existence. "Something wrong, Morality?" I asked. He sighed. "Deceit is my brother…" My eyes widened. How did Paranoia know? I sighed, holding him close with a small amount of blush appearing on my cheeks. "Your family does not define you." I told him. "The nerd is right, Padre. You're one of us now!" Prince added. He smiled at us. I responded with the traces of one, pulling away and leaving once I changed out of my costume to journey home. Though I did my best to look like I'm coming from a meeting. I have the grounds to suspect that I am being watched at home constantly...
Here's the first chapter! I have one or two more written down before I need to come up with more, so get ready!
