Our Protectors
Most children have one toy or stuffed animal that they always keep near. For Michael it was his teddy bear, Sir Cuddlefur. Michael would spend hours with him, sometimes just carrying him around. was the greatest time of Sir Cuddlefur's life, because this was when he was needed the most. When Michael was most vulnerable to the monsters. The monsters come to every child at night. When they are tucked in bed sleeping without a care in the world. This is when teddy bears are needed the most. Sir Cuddlefur fought many fights against Michael's monsters, his fears, how ever irrational they seemed to grown-ups, Sir Cuddlefur was there. Like most children, Michael started to grow up, his parents were so happy and proud when he started kindergarten. Sir Cuddlefur, however felt as if Michael were leaving forever, and was very glad when he returned. Michael still managed to spend time with Sir Cuddlefur and had lots of new monsters to replace the ones he grew out of.
Sir Cuddlefur's battles were long and hard but as long as his boy, Michael, cared for him he would go on protecting him.
As Michael grew older his monsters were bigger and scarier because they became more realistic. The monsters were hard to fight and Sir Cuddlefur feared that some day there would come a monster that with his worn out body he wouldn't be able to defeat. If something like that happened the monster would control all of Michael's thoughts until there wasn't any Michael left. Sir Cuddlefur couldn't let this happen to the boy he had spent years playing with and protecting. So Sir Cuddlefur fought twice as hard. As Michael grew older Sir Cuddlefur could never quite kill the monsters. He would harm them and cut off their limbs, but they would always return. In a way he was like Sisyphus, he would complete his task only to have to start over again being constantly be worn out from his previous attempt. Nevertheless, he would fight until he was no longer needed.
When Sir Cuddlefur was wearing thin and covered in dust from not being touched in years, was surprised when he saw Michael's familiar face along side a woman he didn't know. He was even more surprised when he saw a face not unlike Michaels when he was younger. He wondered how an old raggedy bear like himself could ever go through what he had with Michael again, until he saw the familiar shape of a raggedy old bear. He figured that certainly two old bears could do what one young bear could. Lady Pawline and he fought until their fur was frayed and their seams couldn't be resewn anymore. They managed to make it through to see that he would be well protected for the rest of his life by Sir Cuddlefur II
