Chapter 34- Distant Noises
We continued to walk until we came upon a broken door at the main entrance of the stronghold. Herobrine didn't even stop to open the door and pushed his way through while stuck as close as possible to him. To distract myself from the ghostly noises of the creepy dungeon I decided to make small talk.
"So what are we doing here anyway?" I asked him, even if this just a way to distract myself I still was curious what the point of being here was while looking back to back sure little Athena was following our trail.
"I had secret weaponry when I lived here, it's decently hidden so I'm hoping no one found it so I'm going to go look." He said while he continued to walk through what seemed to be like a maze, but it sure looked like he knew where he was going. There was a sort of tone in his voice that made me think he was frustrated, even though I just gave him a heart to heart speech, I decided he was in one of those moods and did not speak. He opened doors and followed paths to more doors and then would turn the corner to more doors, it seemed like we were walking in circles.
While walking I spotted something in the corner of my eye while I was looking behind my back to make sure nothing was following me. I stopped walking for a moment and looked into the darkness where I thought I saw a small creature run into.
I decided to swallow up my fears and act brave for once in my life and investigate. As I walked closer to the darkness I could hear an odd squeak, and then suddenly a weird gray and spiky creature launched at my legs and started to attack. I forced back a scream and turned it into a squeal as I kicked the creature off of me until he scurried back into the darkness. It didn't hurt much but it did scare the hell out of me that I saw something I've never heard of in my life, not even in books. I turned around to run back to where Herobrine was only to find that he was gone, making me break into a cold sweat.
"Herobrine..?" I said as I looked around, my only response was an echoing of a zombie in the distance, and even little Athena was nowhere to be seen. I gulped down a knot in my throat and decided to walk in the direction where I thought he headed. I turned many corners, calling out his name every once in a while but stopped when I heard something very close near me, and my pace started to get faster and faster.
During what seemed to be my endless walking down a hallway, as the sudden image of all the people who helped me retraced my mind. Steve, Lukas, Jordan, Athena, they were all so brave, they did so much to protect me and look at me, I'm scared to walk around in a creepy place even though there is no sign of any danger, except that weird creature earlier and monsters I could hear in the distance.
I signed, looking down at the ground. I missed them, I wish I could save them. I could save them, No! I would save them. They were strong enough to fend for themselves, and by saving them would mean getting Herobrines powers back, finding the Amulets of Destiny and defeating Notch. I motivated myself in my head, continued down the hallway more bravely, and walking at a faster pace.
Amulet of Destiny, huh? I laughed at the thought to myself, I totally forgot about them because they seemed to be a figure of my imagination at this point with running wild and battling all sorts of things. Would they really stop him? and was it Herobrines plan to get them or is he just risking it all on these weapons that might have no effect on that monster?
I didn't understand Destiny, the Amulets were supposed to kill Herobrine, but in reality, it was Notch who should be killed. Maybe I've just been lied to and I'm just been brainwashed by the bad guy and the good guys are trying to stop us. I stopped to laugh for a moment again under my breath, all this was very confusing, but maybe if we make it alive out of this, we could use the Amulets against Notch without Herobrine getting hurt in the process.
But that didn't make sense, the prophecy said that Herobrine was going to get killed, it wouldn't work against Notch. It that why Herobrine decided to stop going after it? Because he's scared of it?
I continued walking, Nah that wouldn't make sense, Herobrine isn't scared of anything. He would die before getting scared and it seemed like his eyes were only fixed on one thing.
I turned the next corner and found a chest, I signed and opened it up and felt a bit relieved when I found something useful in there. An iron sword, some bread, a bow, and three arrows. I signed, grabbed all the items, and ate the bread as I looked around, but stopped my chewing when I heard quiet footsteps in the distance echoing throughout the halls.
There was no noise, all the zombies and skeletons, hissing, droplets, every single noise I heard previously was absent, just the eerie footsteps coming closer and closer.
I signed in relief, assuming it was just Herobrine, and continued eating my bread. It was odd how he did not respond to me when I called for him, probably trying to scare me. I finished eating and walked in the direction the footsteps were. When I got closer to them they suddenly stopped, making me stop in my tracks as well.
I decided to think for a moment, Herobrine was such a serious person, he wasn't someone who would try to mess around during a time like this. I decided that maybe it was a zombie and that I shouldn't go near it, but when the footsteps continued once again, there was no grunting, no growling, no sort of sound a zombie or other creature would make when it moved. It had to be him.
I was confused and a bit nervous inside the stronghold, even though he told me this was his past home, It shouldn't be that concerning, it was hard to act all high and mighty at a time like this. I was confused about which way he was, and I was done playing his dumb games. I walked forward where I thought the footsteps were coming from, but the echoes sure made it difficult to pinpoint where I was.
"Herobrine, I don't wanna play these games anymo-" I turned the corner, assuming to find the familiar white eyes looking down on me, but I was entirely wrong.
I gasped, doing my best to turn around as fast I could to run away, but I was already too late.
"Too...Slow..."
-Herobrines Pov-
"So what are we doing here anyway?" She asked me, she always asked the stupidest and obvious questions just to make a conversion and ignore the silence, which was annoying because I quite enjoyed the quietness, and was already frustrated with retracing my memories of this place and that I had no idea where I was going.
I didn't feel like being too harsh with her since she put in much effort to please me after telling her my background of this place. I took in a deep breath and swallowed my irritation.
"I had secret weaponry when I lived here, I'm hoping no one found it so I'm going to go look." I turned another corner and opened the door, getting annoyed once again with how I forgot the route in my own home.
I continued to move on nevertheless, and she seemed to understand the tone in my voice that I was annoyed by her talking because she stopped asking me questions. When I continued to move forward, It felt as though something was missing. I turned around, about to ask a question when I found no one there.
I couldn't help but stop in my tracks. I looked around and opened the nearest doors, calling out her name, once, twice, a third time, but there was still no answer. I decided to make it my first priority to look for here first and then continue with my mission, she probably got stuck somewhere or got distracted by some dumb silverfish.
When I walked down a little bit more, I stopped when I found her stupid dog. It looked up at me and wagged its tail a little bit, but stopped to look around once again for any sign of (Y/N).
Now, this was odd, no matter where she was, whether it was in battle or sleeping, they were always together. I continued to move on and ignored the dog that trailed behind me as well.
I retraced my path, with every step I took backward I continued to get more and more annoyed with how she could get so easily lost. I walked until I found the path where I last saw her, where a silverfish scurried right past me. I was growing impatient.
Damn, I would be so much easier if I had my powers back. The fact that he has the possession to take them was already overpowering enough. I all honesty, I had no plan. The only thought in my mind ever since entering this battle was taking back my revenge for all those years ago.
My plan on getting the sword in the Nether did not work, but the same sword came from this stronghold with the secret weaponry I cooped up. Thinking it was stolen by other players, I didn't think it would work but since this turn of events left us in the most ironic state possible It was my last option without any powers left.
I stopped, remembering I did have some tiny weird power that only worked in my brain when it helped to find (Y/N)
Where are you!? I asked. There was no answer. Despite the situation, she should still be able to contact me through our weird telepathy powers we found on a whim. That confused me too, where in the world did it come from, speaking to each other through our minds, and if I cant use it at a time like this what was even the point of having it?
I continued to look around and stumbled upon an open chest, finally a clue, she must have gone this way. I walked around the hallway, opened a door, turned a corner, and called out her name a few times, still no answer. I stopped altogether, wondering if I stopped making noise I would be able to hear any signs of her in the distance.
It worked, I could hear very low noise of pitter-pattering of shoes echoing in the distance. I signed and continued to walk in the direction of the noise when it appeared to get closer and closer and louder and louder, it stopped altogether, so I stopped as well.
I could feel my face cringe with irritation when I could imagine her hiding behind and corner snickering at me waiting to jump out at the perfect time in an attempt to "frighten me", whatever the hell that meant. I decided to not call her out, and if she decided to jump out at me I was ready to see her disappointed look when I would have no reaction.
I cursed under my breath and continued to where I thought I heard the footsteps earlier, and when I turned the corner I was hit with utter disbelief and a heart-sinking sight.
