Chapter 26 - Answers
Herobrine opened his mouth for a moment, only to close it again to think about what he was going to say.
"What do you need to tell us?"
"Do you have a plan?"
"I need to know!"
"Come on spit it out!"
"SHUT THE HELL UP!" Herobrine finally yelled at me and Lukas for nagging him. "Give me a moment to think."
"You can't just say you need to tell us something and then decide if you want to say or not!" I yelled, needing answers. If there was any possible way to defeat Notch and go home I was willing to do anything. I was scared, and only human. I had no power whatsoever to defeat the all powerful king, but now that I thought about it, Herobrine didn't either... Did he now count as a human being? I cringed at the thought of me being compared to him. Would this even be possible without the demons power?
"God, you two are so irritating," he paused, looking up at us once again, our eyes fixed on him once he began to speak again. "There...Might be a way, but there is a one out of a hundred chance it will work."
"What? Tell us!" I nagged him once more, waiting for the relief to poor over my body once I found out the answers. He signed and continued the conversation.
"How advanced are you, alchemist?"He asked the brown haired male who had a slightly worried expression on his face.
"In alchemy? I know most," he answered, a slightly hesitant tone in his voice.
"Then, there is a chance," Herobrine said and looked at us, making sure we were paying attention to him. "There is a sword, a very powerful sword. Hidden in the underworld among the monsters. Its power is unknown, but people say it could kill a god with one powerful swing. The problem is to unlock that power you need a high advanced alchemist to uncover its curse," he stopped talking for a brief moment to look at us again to see our reactions.
"The Nether... Another dimension?!" Lukas sat up, eyes widened and slowly walked over toward Herobrine, "That's impossible! You need very delicate materials that are very hard to get in order to make portal!"
"I wasn't finished idiot," Lukas stopped his body from moving and decided to shut his mouth and continue to listen to Herobrine. "I once lived in the Nether, it was my home. But Notch found me there and I had to evacuate to the normal world. When I escaped I broke the portal and took the resources that came with it and kept it with me just in case I ever needed to go back there."
"I can't" Lukas said in a sad tone abruptly, I looked at him, hope in my eyes one second and my heart sank the next when he said those words. "My brother, I can't leave him. Plus I have no books or material to uncover the curse,it just won't work."
"Idiot," Herobrine said again. "How long have you been staying in this house?"
"I wasn't hired long ago, so I probably found it a couple weeks ago, its where I take breaks," Lukas said like it was no big deal.
"Well," Herobrine walked over to a bookshelf that was in the corner,"I don't know if you knew, I use to live in the castle, i'm quite fond of this are area. And from I can remember, an alchemist use to live here when I was young. And you know alchemist's..." He pulled out a book from the shelf, uncovering what was behind it which seemed to be a hidden lever, "Their full of secrets."He pulled the lever, and immediately the house began to shake. I didn't know what was happening but I couldn't help but be scared of what was going to come next. Suddenly, the wall in front of me opened, like it was a door the whole time. It revealed a staircase that led down underground where secrets were hidden.
Lukas's eyes widened as he slowly walked down into the basement. Me and Herobrine stood there, not knowing whether to continue or not.
"This is amazing!" I could hear Lukas's voice bounce off the walls from the bottom of the stairs, "there's ton of resources here! Books galore!"
Me and Herobrine slowly looked at each other, I was still confused and scared, I didn't know what to do, or how to commit to this journey. I thought about how I would just get in the way, with my weak state. I was still shaken up about the experience we had not too long ago, and the dream I had afterwards. And the Nether, how the hell was I supposed to survive the Nether?Herobrine even has a better advantage than me even without powers. He's been there before and knows his way around, I can't even remotely image what it would look like. Not to mention he's an excellent fighter, heck I could barely hold a sword. As I continued to remember my past experiences, without even noticing my body began to shake, my fears were the only thing on my mind until someone broke me from that curse.
"You know." Herobrine said in a low tone, almost like a whisper,"You still can go back.I wouldn't want you dying in the Nether."
Something struck my heart when he said that, I didn't know what it was, the fact that he wanted me to stay, or that he didn't want me to die. Did Herobrine, the king of the Nether, care about a human like me? It was hard to believe and even think about. I shook my head to rid all of my crazy thoughts.
"I know, but my feelings haven't changed. I still want to finish this adventure, even if i'm useless," I turned away from his face and looked down at the staircase, where faint footsteps could be heard.
"You're not useless," Herobrine quickly mumbled very quietly before turning and walking down the basement. I didn't acknowledge it because I barely heard what he said. I signed, quickly glancing at the unconscious man behind me before turning and walking down the stairs. The first thing I saw was walls covered in books and shelves with resources I've never seen before. The ceiling was covered in spider webs and mold. Lukas was carrying a lantern, which made the small room glow an eerie yellow. I could see a big smile on Lukas's face and a plain expression on Herobrine's.
"There's enough ingredients in here to make a healing potion! Perfect! I can heal my brother. There are chests everywhere!" Lukas continued to talk to us in excitement, "Why don't you two take a look? You might find some weapons that could come in handy."
I shrugged and looked at the first chest I saw and walked over to open it.I couldn't find anything useful in there, just some old moldy bread and a wooden sword.
"Here," I heard the deep voice beside me, and I turned to look at the dark prince. Suddenly, he tossed a iron sword to me which I clumsily caught with my two hands. I stood there for a moments, surprised with myself for catching a sharp object. "You'll be needing it if your joining our fight."
"I...I" I nervously held the sword in my hand, "I don't know how to fight." I finally admitted.
He made a clicking sound with his tongue,"don't worry, when the time comes you'll learn automatically."
"I'm not sure that's how it works..." I chuckled, looking down at the sword in my hands like i've never seen one in my whole life.He turned away to open another chest.
"Just trust me," he said bluntly and searched through a open chest. I smiled and continued to search my way through more chests In the room.
I signed and looked down at my sword. Even though I told him I still wanted to continue with him through this journey, I couldn't help but feel like I was in the way. Was I even helpful to them? Would I just make things worse? I was scared, and all I've ever wanted since the day Herobrine kidnapped me was to go home, and that thought was still in the mind and I wouldn't lie to myself, I want to go home...
Herobrine lifted his head toward me, as if he heard everything I told myself in my head. I couldn't help but flinch at his sudden movement.
"I told you, if you want to go home, go home.Either go now or never, there is no turning back once were in the Nether. Stop pushing yourself to do something you don't want to do. If your so worried about getting in our way you should focus on the mission and stop doubting your decisions." Herobrine said, with an annoyed and almost angry expression.
"What are you talking about?" Lukas said, butting into our conversation and we both turned our eyes toward him. "She's looks more than capable enough heading into the Nether, I mean, look what she did at Notch's castle."
"That's not what I heard,"Herobrine turned his attention toward me one again as I stood quietly and watched the men talk.
"What do you mean heard?" Lukas was oblivious
"Did you not just hear her two seconds ago talking about how she wanted to go home? Are you deaf?" He asked him as Lukas gave him a blank expression.
"I was standing here the whole time and I heard nothing, trust me I have excellent ears, I think your just hearing things."
"How did you hear me say that....?" I said, confused and a little freaked out at the same time. They both turned there head towards me. "I swear I said that in my head, how did you hear? Did you mind read me?"
"What? No! I told you I don't have my powers idiot, and you would know if I did too. Why would I lie about something so dumb?"
"Then...I don't know how you did it," I said very quietly, trying to figure out this mystery.
"Whatever, it's probably just a mistake, who cares. We need to focus on heading to the Nether, once I heal my brother we can head out, we don't have much time." Lukas held some sort of potion in his hand and walked up the stairs to see his brother, and it was just me and Herobrine alone. Even though the topic wasn't important, I head something in my mind like that not too long ago, when Herobrine and I were upstairs. It felt like I was having a conversation with my inner thoughts. Lukas was oblivious then too.
I tried to ignore it but I couldn't, I wanted to focus on the more important things in my life, but the question in my head kept popping up. How did he know?
"Alright," Lukas came down the stairs a few minutes later, looking much happier than before, "My brother is all healed up and awake, I told him everything, and he is going to guard the house until we get back."
"Sounds like a plan," I said happily, even though I was dying in the inside, and kept myself from shaking in fear of the thought of how our journey could end up in a disaster.
Herobrine magically had obsidian appear from his hands as he quickly placed down the blocks in front of us. We watched him in awe as the portal slowly came to a finish. When all the obsidian was used up, flint and steel appeared in his hands. He collided the two together in a quick motion until it finally sparked, and ignited the portal. The portal looked like pure liquid, swirls of purple and a flowing movement. It was magical and almost hypnotizing.
"Alright." Herobrine said once he was finished, putting the flint and steel away and turning towards us. "Lets go."
