Steve....No
~~Three days later~~
Steve and I walked through the woods by the town. No one had tried to steel the jewel or tried to kill us. The worst thing we had to fight were a few mobs. Steve sheathed his sword and stretched. "Herobrine, we've been walking for hours, don't you think it's time to go back?"
I felt a strange presence, like somethings watching me. I turned my head around to check behind me, "Yah," I said slowly. "I guess we can go back." I looked at Steve, and continued walking twords the town. "Will you stop with the Herobrine thing? It's getting old."
Steve smiled. "Nope, that's your new name." I shook my head and smiled.
"Fine." I said in defeat. I looked in front of me and saw a pair of eyes. I stopped. With my hand on the handel of my weapon, I looked around, waiting for someone, or thing, to jump out and attack. To my relief, it was the mayor's patrol.
"Hey Hero, Steve, what's up?" One of the guards asked. He was wearing his gray shirt, jeans, and black sneakers.
"Hey, Brandon, how's the patrol?" Steve asked. I sighed and released my blade.
"Nothing new, no one's been seen since you two showed up," he looked right at me and I looked away, "I guess they've been too scared for their lives to even mess with us." Steve smile grew, and my dissapeared. I knew that I was powerful, but did I really bring that much fear to people? "I'm just kidding Hero," I still hate that nickname. "but really, nothing new has happened."
Steve looked at me, he must have noticed something was bothering me. "Ok Brandon, Hero and I are gonna take another lap around the perimeter then we'll be back in town."
"Ok, see you there." Brandon walked away with his group, Steve and I continued on walking.
"Are we really walking the perimeter again? We've done it like five times." I said.
Steve rolled his eyes. "Don't exaggerate everything so much, we've only walked it twice. And yes, we're gonna do it again."
"Good, maybe this time around I can figure out what's been following me." I muttered under my breath.
After a while of walking, Steve stopped. "What's wrong Hero? You've been acting strange lately, like every time we go into the woods, you are constantly checking behind your back." I looked behind me, I could feel a dark presence somewhere around us. "See? This is what I mean, your jumpy at even the slightest sounds, and always on your guard. What's wrong?"
"Am I not allowed to be on guard?" I asked.
"You are, but you don't need to be so jumpy. What's wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm fine." We continued walking for a while, I had walked ahead and Steve kept his pace.
I looked around as I walked. What the hell has been following me? I can feel someone here, but where are they? I was so lost in my thoughts, I didn't hear Steve sneak up on me. "Boo." He said calmly, right next to my ear. I jumped and pulled out my sword pointing it at him. He stared at me with an 'I told you so' face.
"Don't do that." I hissed as I sheathed my weapon.
"Hero, I can tell somethings wrong. Just talk to me. Maybe I can help."
I shook my head. "You'll just think I'm crazy." I muttered.
"No I won't. When have I ever doubted you?" He asked with a fake innocent face.
I pretended to think. "Let me see, how about that time, oh, about a week ago, we were in the lab, when we had to decide between us who will fight. Remember that?" I looked at him, he looked away. "Or how about three days ago when I told you that we should fight those men? You thought I was crazy and tried to talk me out of it." He avoided looking right at me. We stood in silence for what seemed like forever, (Steve was right, he does exaggerate everything) the longer we stood there, the more anger built in my chest. "You know what, I'm done." I started to walk away.
"Where are you going?" He asked.
"I'm going back to the town, finish the job yourself." I turned to see the hurt in his eyes. I was about to apologize, but turned and left. This is his own fault. I'm sick of him always worrying about me. I'm fine! It's not like I'm a defenceless ocelot.
Are you?
So you finally decided to say something after three days.
You didn't seem to need me...
I don't need you. Your a waist of time and energy.
Am I now? Well, then why are you still talking to me? I stayed quiet for a moment and the voice started to laugh. You know you need me.
No, I don't need you. I can handel myself just fine without you.
Can you now? Then, why did you answer me? If you don't need me, why talk to me at all? Why not ignore me, or push me away? Why do you accept me into your mind?
I-I don't know.
He chuckled again. Oh, but I do. You accept me because a small part of you knows that you need me. Some part of your mind is starting to turn. Why do you think you were able to kill so many without a second thought? Because, part of you allowed me to convince you that you had to. Part of you knows that what you did was wrong, but I made you ignore it, and forced you to fight.
No, I-I don't belive you. I had control of my actions. I knew exactly what I was doing. You have no control over me. Not all of me anyway.
He was quiet for a moment. You're right...I don't have control over your whole mind yet...but one day I will...
No you won't. I'll fight to the death if I have to. But even if you manage to take over my mind, I will always have that small bit of humanity left...
Brave words...we'll soon see if you can uphold your promise.
He went quiet again so I said nothing. I was almost to the town when something distracted me. I heard screaming coming from behind me. I couldn't make out the voice or what they were saying, so I continued to town. At the gate, the sounds got louder. I saw Brandon standing guard at the gate. "Hey Hero, what's wrong? You look like you just saw someone die."
"Do you hear the screaming?"
He shook his head. "What screaming. Are you sure your ok?"
I was about to say that I was ok, when we both heard someone scream, "BRINE! GAAH. HELP ME!"
I wiped my head around at the sound of Steve's voice shouting in pain. I looked at Brandon who nodded and we both ran in the direction of the shouts. I didn't know where I was going, or how I was gonna help him, but I was gonna try. Unsheathing my sword as I ran, I felt myself pick up speed.
About five minutes later, I stopped behind a tree and cought my breath. I could hear Steve weakly talking to someone. Brandon finally cought up to me, panting. "How...do you...run...so fast?" He asked. I Shushed him and tried to listen to what they were saying.
"W-what d-doing you w-want from me?" I heard Steve ask weakly.
The other figure laughed. "It's not what I want from you, it's who I want. You know, the one you screamed for?" I reconized the voice, I just couldn't put my figure on it.
I looked around the tree I was hidden behind, and saw something that sent a wave of dread through me. I saw Entity 303 standing over Steve. Steve was badly bleeding from multiple wounds. His face, arms, legs, and chest was covered in blood and scratches. He had one major slice across his back and one on his face. His side had a fresh stab wound and was oozing blood on the ground. "Brine doesn't care. He probably won't even come. He never belived that I needed him. I'm sure he's long gone by now." Steve spat. He looked around the woods and his eyes landed on me, but he quickly looked at Entity.
"Really? Then I guess he wouldn't mind if I killed you, would he?" Entity raised his sword above his head and prepared to strike.
"Yes, I would actually." Entity whipped his head around to face me. "If anyone's gonna kill him it's gonna be me." I said winking at Steve to let him know it was just an act. He gave a small smile, and I turned my attention to Entity.
"So, you did show your face? Well, I must say I am surprised."
"Well, I tend to do that alot." I smerked. "Now, why hurt this pathetic wimp? I thought you were after me?"
"I am. Now, I can finally kill you." He came at me faster than I antisipated and knocked me to the ground. I growled and charged at him. We clashed swords and fought for dominance over each other.
"Go....help...Steve....I'll...take care of...him." I ordered Brandon as I threw Entity into a tree. Brandon nodded and I attacked. I managed to get my blade into his side. "Not as much fun being on the other side of the blade, is it?" I asked. Entity growled as I pulled my blade from him. I went to attack him again, but he teleported away.
"This isn't over Brine, I will kill you one day."
I walked over to where Brandon and Steve were. Steve had passed out, and Brandon was covered in his blood. "Is he ok?" I asked.
Brandon shook his head. "He's losing too much blood. He'll be dead before we get h to town."
I walked to one of the trees and punched it as hard as I could. "Why Steve?" I punched again. "Why him? Why now?" I punched until my hands started to bleed. I watched as thay quickly healed, and an idea sparked into my mind. "Lay him on the ground." I ordered.
"Why?"
"Just do it. I have an idea." Brandon layed Steve on the ground and I kneeled next to his limp body. Please work. I silently begged. Placing my hands just over his body, I shut my eyes and concentrated. After a moment, my hands started to glow a soft white, and Steve's wounds started to heal.
"H-how are you doing that?" Brandon asked.
I ignored him and continued to consontrate. After a few minutes, Steve started to wake up. Having almost completely drained my energy, I fell to my hands. I looked up at the now awake Steve and sighed.
"What happened?" He asked. Brandon explained everything to him as I leaned against a tree. "Wait! You healed me? I dint know you could do that!"
"Nor did I." I said weakly. "You had some major wounds, so it took a lot out of me."
"You ok man?" Brandon asked.
I slowly stood. "Yah, I'll be fine. Let's get Steve back to the town so he can rest."
"You need rest to Hero," Steve said helping me up. "Who was that anyway?"
"That was Entity 303. Notch made him. That's all I know. Well, that and he's super strong."
"Yah, no kidding." Steve muttered. We walked to town and went to our house. We were flooded with questions, but I was too worn out to answer any of them. We said our good night's and went to bed. I fell asleep almost instantly. And the voice said one thing before I blacked out.
You're gonna regret saving him one day, Brine.
