Chapter 9
Roman perched on the stone window-ledge, rocking backwards slightly. He flailed his arms in a panic and managed to grab onto the side of the window, getting his balance back. Carefully, he jumped down into the tower and looked around.
There was nothing really remarkable about the tower apart from the fact that it looked like it had been changed recently. The plaster covering the stone walls looked new and the purple carpet wasn't as dusty as he would have expected. The mirror in the corner looked fairly new as well, it hadn't clouded over or cracked like most old mirrors.
Roman shook his head and focused on trying to find the other prince. Really, he should've found him sooner seeing as this whole quest seemed to be based on fairy-tales.
Virgil was seemingly asleep on the bed in the corner of the tower. Hearing a clink, Roman looked down. He had kicked a small vial against one of the legs of the bed.
"Sleeping potion?" He thought as he picked the vial up, looking from it to the sleeping figure on the bed. "Why would Virgil...?" Then it hit him. Of course. Roman shook his head, not sure whether to be angry or grateful.
"Dammit Patton and Logan." He muttered, casting another glance at Virgil. "Why'd you have to make it so difficult?"
In theory, what he had to do wasn't difficult in the slightest. All he had to do was kiss Virgil to wake him up. In theory. But, in real life, that was a lot more difficult. First of all, there was no consent involved in this. Second, Roman didn't even know if Virgil liked him back and third, this wasn't a fairy-tale. There was no 100% that it might work.
"You're going to kill me after this." Roman told the unconscious boy before kneeling next to the bed and planting a swift kiss on Virgil's lips. He then got up and backed himself into a corner, trying to distance himself as much as possible from the other prince.
Virgil's steely eyes slowly fluttered open and he sat up, resting his head in his hands. God, his head hurt. He looked up and spied Roman standing in the corner of the tower. Roman looked as if he was trying to sink into the wall.
"Princey? What are you...?" Then it hit Virgil. He had drank a sleeping potion. An enchanted sleep could only be woken by 'true love's kiss'. Which Virgil had taken as a load of bullshit for most of his life.
Roman could tell Virgil had worked it out. "I'm sorry." He said in the smallest voice possible, wishing the wall would swallow him up. To his surprise, Virgil laughed but his eyes were dark and thundery. He wasn't okay with this.
"You little shit." He hissed, standing up. "I'm going to kill you."
"And I'll deserve it but can we please just get back to the castle first? Please?"
Virgil rolled his eyes and raised his arms in defeat. "Fine. How do we get out?"
As if by magic (or two very nosy royal advisors) a rope ladder fell past the window. Virgil and Roman shared a look before going over to the window and looking down, Virgil gripping onto Roman's arm as his vertigo kicked in again. The rope ladder reached the ground. Virgil and Roman looked at each other again before Virgil shakily clambered onto the window-sill and gripped the rope ladder tightly, his knuckles turning white.
"If I die, Princey..." He muttered, leaving the sentence hanging in the air before scrambling down the ladder as carefully as he could. Roman followed suit.
Patton looked down, being held up only by Logan gripping his arm tightly.
"So?" Logan yelled against the wind and the beating of the dragon's wings. Patton shot him a thumbs up and Logan hauled Patton back onto the dragon.
"Success?" He asked, holding out his hand. Patton high-fived him.
"Success."
There it is. That's the end. Is it good or not? I have no clue.
Bye,
Queenie
