Chapter 3
"Heya Kiddo. Whatcha doing?"
Roman looked up. Patton was standing in the doorway to the stables, grinning like anything.
"I'm going to save Virgil. He's been kidnapped."
Patton's face fell. "Wh-What?" He whispered.
"Virgil's been kidnapped and taken hostage in a tower. I intend to save him."
"But if he's in a tower, a horse would be useless, wouldn't it?" Patton asked, seemingly speaking more to himself than to Roman.
"Oh shoot, you're right." Roman said, carefully censoring himself. "I'd better get going then. Who knows what might happen to Virgil while he's stuck at the top of that tower?"
What happened to Virgil while he was stuck at the top of a tower was exactly this. Nothing. All he'd been doing was writing all over the fairy-tale books, fixing them to some extent. Obviously, there was only so much he could do to fix them but he definitely tried.
Soon though, all the fairy-tales were covered in his slanting scrawl and all the books were filled out. Virgil had contemplated climbing out of the tower exactly 20 times in the past 3 hours but he'd rejected the idea every time. His fear of heights would kick in and he'd freeze to the side of the wall, looking down and unable to move. He really was a damsel in distress.
A sound from the window made him look up.
Logan was trying to climb inside the tower but failing rather brilliantly. He eventually fell onto the floor. Virgil laughed at the sight.
"God, I don't think I've ever been so happy to see another human being in my life. How'd you get up here?"
"Rope ladder." Logan muttered as he stood up, dusting himself off. He chucked a small vial to Virgil. "You're to drink that at midday."
"What is it?" Virgil asked, squinting through the glass at the potion inside the vial.
"You'll find out." Logan said ominously, smiling slightly before climbing back out of the window.
Virgil sighed and set the bottle down on a bedside table. Did Logan have to be so vague all the time? Well, there really was nothing else to do. He could, if he was really desperate, try and read some of the poem books. Virgil sighed again and looked out of the window, careful not to lean on any of the bricks. Who knew how unstable this old tower was?
The view was quite good from up here. He could see the sky, the forest, the blue mountains just on the horizon and, if he looked hard enough, he could see a white speck on the edge of the forest. Roman's castle. "I wonder what Roman's doing right now." Virgil thought. "Has he even noticed I'm gone? Would he even care?" Virgil shook away these doubts. No. Roman does care that he's disappeared and Roman will come and save him. Because that's what princes do.
Ha ha, sorry this chapter is so short. I just didn't know what to write.
Bye,
Queenie
