Note
Hero in Nagoray Est. 1999
Hero in Nagoray is a story I began a long time ago when I was small. 1999 is the best guess I can do on the year. Since then it has had many revisions but none were as I hoped it would be. I think I finally have it the way that best fits Hero and his other semi-anthropomorphic family and friends. The story is very much work in progress which I don't usually post so it may be revised from time to time. Anyway, why am I going ahead with this story?
No matter how many times I put this story on the shelf it keeps jumping out at me. I can't detach myself from Hero and his red bandanna. I don't expect this story to receive the favor that "Homing Bird" has (didn't expect that either) but I think it deserves a home somewhere else other than my shelf. I think it would work better as a comic but I simply don't have time for that and if I'm ever going to get anywhere with Hero I'd better start the best way I can for now.
How human are these animals?
The animals in the story are in place of humans. Think back to the cartoons you watched as a kid such as Busy Town. Or Kung Fu Panda for the more modern. They have their own governments, languages and religions and housing. Occasionally they walk on their hind legs and wear simple articles of clothing such as hats, scarves/shawls, booties, and the occasional robe or coat. Some of them use weapons such as bayonets and explosives. Some do very humanly task such as smoke and use cutlery. Though there is a range of paws and claws, collectively I'll simply refer to them as hands and feet.
I decided to only use animals between the size of a fox and the size of a buffalo with the exception of birds of prey.
The rating will be PG to a mild PG-13. However, the story deals with a war so there will be dramatic events but no overly descriptive uses of blood and no gore. If you wish to read this book with your child be prepared to discuss such topics as war, famine, genocide, and the enslavement and trafficking of others.
