Chapter 2|Wind

"You must find us in this order: Red, Yellow, Blue, Green, Purple." The words echoed in Link's head as he searched for the strange creatures who had challenged him to the game of Hide-and-seek. Link crept along the brush, his eyes sharp, looking for any flash of red in the dark forest.
And at that moment, he heard a giggle. Link's blue eyes darted upwards toward the trees that blanketed the ground below, hiding the sky fro him. He spotted glowing eyes staring at him. The skull creature hopped down, before bowing elegantly. "So you found me! But it isn't over yet- I'll help you find the rest of us."
"Thank you." Link said gratefully to the child-like skeleton thing. "What, did you think you were going to find all of us on your own? Good one!" He? laughed mischievously. "We know these woods better then anyone. We are trapped here, after all."
Link felt like he was hit with a brick at that. These poor, whatever they were, were trapped in these terrifying woods forever. But he didn't show the pity coursing through him as the small person reassured him that Link wasn't trapped... yet. And on they moved to the next color- Yellow.
"Yellow is afraid of heights, so he will probably be on the ground, in some bushes or something." "Are your names your colors?" Link asked in curiosity, scanning the area around them. "Yeah. Except the green one. His name is Steve." Link almost laughed, that was nice. Link nodded, a smirk on his face from amusement.
"So do you know where your friends are?" Link asked another question. "The forest." Was the answer he got, confirming that they actually had to search. So Link wandered, Red following.
"Did we pass that tree 3 times now?" Link asked in bewilderment. "Yeah. That's how these woods are." Red giggled, obviously taking amusement in Link's confusion. Luckily, Link wasn't one to get frustrated when he was confused, which would have made the situation worse. "Can you go up in the trees and get a top view of the forest? It might help." Link ordered, Red gladly obliging with a sarcastic "Yes, Boss."
It took about half an hour for the duo to find Yellow. He was taking cover in a hollowed tree, only found when Red fell inside through the top, where there was an unexpected hole. And that's how Link ended up with two cranky imp things. "Alright, Now we need to find Blue?" Link asked.

About 3 hours later it was dark and Link had a crew of 4 Skull kids, at least that's what they said they were. The souls of children who had gotten lost in the woods. Link shivered, remembering how scared he would have been, even at this age, despite being 7 to 10. Link couldn't help but feel desperate to help these poor souls. He felt some strange instinct to save them- Not that he could. He's only a 15 year old boy who woke up in the middle of the woods. "Alright. Here's the end of the woods." The last one stepped out of the brush. "It was fun playing with you." Steve mumbled. Blue and Red nodded in agreement, while Yellow hugged his leg. "No! He can't leave." Yellow hissed. "He has to, Yellow" Purple shook his head. "I know you guys feel it too. He'll be fine."
Link lifted an eyebrow in question, that was left unanswered. Yellow sniffled. "Okay... But you better come back, Hylian!" Hylian? Link asked in his head, but ignored it. "Alright. I'll see what I can do. I hope you guys can find your way home someday." Link said as he pried yellow off of him.
Little did he know, it was going to be sooner then he thought.
As he walked through a gigantic open field, that seemed to have no end, he could only trust his instincts to find his way home. Not that that helped, since he had never relied on his instincts this much. You didn't need to.
Link couldn't help but feel a little anxious about that. He did need to find his way home somehow, but he also needed to stay safe. And today had proven things that can be seen as fantasy are real, so he wondered if anything dangerous would be near. The skull kids were fine, but would a dragon? Were there even dragons?
He shook his head, clearing it from the scary thoughts. He would deal with that as it came. His courage flared up for just a moment, before Link tightened his clothes around him. In this big grassy prairie, the wind was terrible. Nothing to block it for what seemed to be miles. Not only was it bone-chilling, but it seemed to be slowing him down greatly.
Suddenly, it picked up even more, and Link was horrified to feel his feet lift off the ground. He may be one of the bravest, but in that moment he was more terrified then he had felt in his life. So terrified, he passed out, letting his body go limp as he was thrown in the wind.
While he was passed out, he went up, and up, and up...
Into the clouds.
The skull kids could only watch from the trees on the edge of the forest as their friend was lost to them.
