Chapter 33

Myles snapped out of his stupor just in time to dodge a potentially lethal blow aiming for his neck. Instead, the razor sharp talons grazed his cheekbone, tearing the flesh and letting loose a small river of blood down his chin. Crying out, he clutched the torn skin and tried to run, but Null was faster. Another claw caught him in the calf, and Myles dropped like a ragdoll to the floor. A giggle let itself loose from Null's lips, as he daintily wiped the blood off of his claw and onto his shirt. "This is fun! Guyliner's plan can go die in a hole for all I care, this is way more effective!" He grinned, flashing Sean's hastily-brushed teeth, and jumped forward again.

Myles dodged, too caught up in surviving to reply. He jumped from side to side like a rabbit trying to avoid the eagle's claws, but he forgot about the giant computer, and he backed up into it. Flailing his arms around wildly, he struggled to regain his balance. In the process, his arm clipped one of the monitors, and it fell backwards, quickly ground to shrapnel by the colliding forces of the gears. Myles only barely managed to avoid the same fate by grabbing onto the edge of the table to steady himself before a row of sharp nails dug into his chest and pulled him out of the gear's reach. One of the claws caught on the small yin-and-yang pin on his breast pocket, it clattered to the floor. Null smiled eerily, "Can't have you die before I kill you, now can I?"

"No, I suppose not...You wouldn't happen to consider not killing me, would you? 'Cuz I really like that plan." Myles spun out of Null's grasp, causing several deep scratches to tear into the skin on his back, and fell to the floor; scooting back as far as he could before the searing pain in his leg blurred his vision. Null seemed to think over this for a moment, scratching his chin with the hooks on his hands and eliminating the need for Sean to shave later. "I thought I told you this earlier, I don't do plans. And that one is especially unappealing."

Null leaped forward, claws poised and ready to strike, but Myles dodged again and he ended up embedding his hands into one of the tubes of the machine. As he strained to free it from the metal, icy cold liquid spilled from inside and soaked Null's ratty T-shirt. Myles took this opportunity to try and get away, but his leg was still burning, and now it had some sort of black ooze crawling through his veins and up towards his torso. With a roar, Null tore the metal tubing from the machine, spraying blue liquid everywhere and freeing his hand. The fluid formed a puddle on the floor, in the middle of which lay Myles' old pin. Null's green pupils had dilated so far they looked like specs of dirt, and he was snarling and breathing heavily, like some sort of rabid animal; it was pretty safe to say that he was angry.

With newfound, adrenaline-fueled vigor, Myles limped away from his feral friend, hissing at the pain and dragging his foot behind him. Null's head snapped towards him with a sickening noise, and he leapt forward once again, walking on his hands and feet like a spider for added creepiness. Green eyes glinted as he grew closer to his prey, fixed on the target and unblinking. Without warning, he darted towards him, earning a yelp from Myles, and sprang in front; forcing the man to turn back into the area with the busted computer. He was herding him, like a flock of sheep, guiding him through fear to wherever Null wanted him.

It was working, and Myles was backed up into a corner again. Shaking in terror, he stood in front of the desk and faced Null. "What do you want from me?" He asked in a small, scared voice. Null only grinned, "I want my partner in crime back, and now that I've had my fun, I think it's time to jam this machine." Myles took a step back in fear, and Null shot towards him, taking a large handful of his shirt (and quite a bit of skin as well), and shoving him backwards.

The open jaws of the waiting gears were quick to pull him in.
