Chapter 29
The moon was nearly at its peak, shining brightly through the high windows and illuminating the large room. Myles and Sean sat squished together at the monitors of the computer, fighting to see the screen. Myles took hold of the mouse and clicked around for a bit, until he opened a file labelled, “Creation Log: 754-SU”
“Is this who you are meaning?” He asked, skimming through the various results as he scrolled. “Yeah, go all the way back, I want to see this.” Sean made a grab for the mouse, but Myles yanked it away. “We do this my way, or not at all.” He sneered, scrolling to the bottom of the list and clicking the file.

“After months of tedious research and experiments, we believe the machine is ready. It should successfully create a living body for the conscious we have created in the lab. This will be the first of many, I hope. We will turn it on Sunday next week, I simply pray it will work.
Side note: Two new apprentices have been hired today, both college aged. Let's hope they are as dedicated to this project as we are.”
Myles scowled as he clicked the little “X” at the top, “This is getting us nowhere.” Skipping a few logs, he clicked on the day when the development process should've started.

“We have done it. The subject is sleeping, but alive. It will need to get used to living with a body, but I believe it will adapt nicely. During creation, we injected some Strength-Enhancing-Serum (SES) into the bloodstream, and we will continue to do so daily until its body makes the SES on its own. We also programed the machine to create him with semi-hollow bones to allow him to use the flight ability to the greatest extent. With the little addition we made to the frontal lobe, he should be able to control the water molecules in the air around him to hover and fly through the air, and may be able to condense them to an extent; to create fog. We haven't tested that theory yet. He should wake up soon.
Side note: Apprentices are fitting in quite nicely, I envy their bond of friendship. It has gotten quite lonely since the last experiment drove away most of my coworkers.”
Neither Myles nor Sean batted an eyelash at the sob story that was the side note. And they skipped a few boring days of tests and theories before choosing the next one.

“It's fallen. Not two hours ago it fell comatose, and we haven't been able to wake it up. Its health is quickly deteriorating, and to save the project, we will need to transplant the personality temporarily into an already-living human. No one volunteered, except the two new apprentices. I fear for their safety, as we have never done this before and I've grown rather fond of them. They drew straws, and the lot fell to the man named Sean. I do hope this goes well…
Side note: We will begin the transaction later today. I will show Myles how to do it.”
Sean scoffed, “In this business, he should know not to get attached to anybody.” Myles said nothing as he clicked the next one -the last log in the file.

“Sean is awake now, he woke up but an hour ago. He doesn't seem to be facing any negative side-effects from the transaction, but we can never be too sure. Tomorrow Sean is going to let the subject speak to us, and he has permitted us to perform the necessary tests and check-ups needed. Tomorrow evening I will upload his medical log, then get to work on the new subject. We believe it may have been the SES that caused it to go comatose, and so we will be experimenting with a different form of power. Though magic can be unpredictable, I believe we will find a way to control it.”
