Chapter 20

Jason stared upwards with half-lidded eyes, staring at the wonderfully warm, blurry green light that hovered in front of his face. Everything else had long faded into black, no noise, no color save for the flickering green in front of him.

A warm, tingly feeling spread across his leg; calming the pain receptors and nerves that had been going nuts before. He could distantly hear Kamille arguing with someone, who was she mad at? Why was she angry? Didn't she know that this light would make all the hurt go away?

Jason let out a contented sigh, his leg was numb and stiff, but it felt good. He tried to move it, only to have his leg held down by unseen hands. Why were they holding him down? He was fine, the light healed him.

“Stahhhpp, ‘m fiiiine. Don’ needa hooollld m’ dowwn” Jason slurred, waving away the invisible restraints. He chuckled to himself, surprised. “M’ voice s'nds fuuunnny. Why m’ voice s'nd fuuny? Is s'mth'n wrooonngg?”

Angry voices pierced the blissful silence of his foggy mind. Wanting them to stop, he cupped his hands over his ears in defence. “Staaahhpp ‘t! Too looouuud! I don’ liiiike iitt!”

The voices ceased, and he let out another sigh. Before he could fall back into his cloud though, another voice cut through the silence.

It sounded like Optic, but a lot more nervous. Why was it nervous? The light was here, there's no reason to be nervous. “Can you hear me?”

“Yeshhh.” He answered, a bit annoyed at the interruption of his daydream. “Wut ‘u w'nt. ‘M tryin to sweeep.”

“I just wanted to make sure you were okay. That's quite a fall you took.”

“I s'd it bef'r alr’dy. ‘M f’ne. Th’ lite h'lps meeee. th’ lite heeeals me. M’ foot d’snt e’vn h'rt ‘nymre.” He waved his hand limply again, watching it flop onto his lap and giggling sillily to himself.

“Well that's good. Your sister wants to talk to you really fast, then we'll leave you to your light.”

“Yeeeeah! Wh'rs K'miiiille?! Do’s she see th’ lite?” He grinned goofily, excited to see his sister.

The light vanished for a moment, which made Jason sad; but Kamille took the light's place, so everything was good again.

Jason frowned, why was she crying? He reached a hand out and clumsily brushed the tears from her eyes, “wazza matt'r? W'y u cryin’?”

“I thought he did something to you,” kamille whispered, grabbing his hand and holding it to her face, “there was a green fire, then you fell unconscious, and you wouldn't wake up, then when you did wake up you're like this. I thought...I thought…” she burst into tears, still clutching his hand.

“B't I'm okaaay! ‘M jus’ abit craaaazy at demom’nt'.” he consoled her the best he could, as his mind was still half-asleep.

She laughed weakly through her tears, “you sound ridiculous, you know that right?”

“I knooow! It h’lps u be hap'y, ‘nd thaaaaaat m’kes meee hap'y toooooo!” He laughed, smile nearly splitting his face in two.

Kamille chuckled and placed his hand back onto his chest, “go to sleep now okay? Let your leg heal.” She smiled and backed out of his view, the green light returning.

“Mmmmmkay ‘amille. G'nite.” His voice slurred as his eyelids grew heavy, and eventually closed, enveloping him in sleep's sweet embrace.
