Chapter 15
Optic and Jason's temporary truce didn't last very long. Once Kamille had woken up, and been thoroughly teased, they were back at each other's throats.
“Well if you told us anything about anything I wouldn't have had to do that!”
“Whether or not I confide my secrets in you should not influence whether to invade my private mind!”
“you wouldn't have ever done that anyways! It was either find out myself, or live the rest of my life in darkness!”
“Well the rest of your life will be very short if you ever pull that stunt again!”
“What're you gonna do!? Kill me!? Just like you apparently killed Myles!? I would like to know when I'm in the presence of a murderer thank you!”
Optic was visibly taken aback for a moment.“You don't know anything about this.” He growled, “and it would be in your best interests to not stick your nose where it doesn't belong.”
“And what are you going to do about it?” Jason taunted, hands on his hips.
In response, Optic merely pulled out his phone, almost crushing it in his angry fist. “Call a friend.” he dialed a number with jerky, stiff movements and waited for them to pick up. “Hi Super. I have a problem here, can you help me take care of it? Thanks.”
Super? As in, Superman-man? As in, one of his brothers? Best to make sure, “and who was that?” Kamille asked, eyebrow hovering in a raised position.
“You'll meet him soon enough. Until then, nature calls.” Optic made his excuse to jump off the building and run off into central park before either of the twins could catch him.
After a moment, Kamille spoke up from the bench she was sitting on, sarcasm oozing from her lips. “Well that went well, you've made him call another one of his brothers. Congratulations, you're screwed.”
“That he is! Incredibly so!” A cheerful sounding voice rang out from the opposite rooftop, where the silhouette of a man stood on the ledge. His form was blurred by the blaring sun behind him, making both of the Jugas squint to make it out.
Jason leaned farther into the sunlight, trying to pick up on any details. All that either of them could make out was that the man wore a long cape that flowed behind him in the wind. “And who might you be?”
“Oh my gosh! You probably can't see me against the sunlight! Here, I'll come over to you. Then we can talk.” The man completely disregarded Jason's question, and strode over to them. Apparently unfazed by the lack of ground to walk on.
Now that he could see him, Kamille noticed that he looked exactly like Optic, Mirage, and Blur. Save for the bright red supersuit, the blue SM-M logo over his heart, and the neon yellow cape.
Once the man made it to them, he stuck his hand out for a friendly handshake. “The name's Superman-man, but you can call me Super for short!” He informed them with a wink, “don't bother introducing yourself, Optic already told me your names.”
Jason took the handshake apprehensively, clearly intimidated by his appearance.“so, back to your comment earlier, why am I incredibly screwed?”
When the same greeting was offered to Kamille, she took it willingly and with a smile. Maybe if she was nice to him, he wouldn’t decide to fight her as well. “Well, Optic was pretty mad when he called Super, so he's probably here to settle something.” She answered his question before Super got the chance.
“I like you, Kamille, you got a good head.” Super smiled at her, then broke the handshake and spun on his heel to face Jason, “and yes, Jason, your sister is right. I've heard all about you from Optic and Blur. Mirage likes you, but Blur finds you “unrad,” and Optic finds you annoying. So I'm here to do two things.”
He flashed an unnervingly perfect grin in Jason’s direction, “Number 1: create my own, undoubtedly superior opinion on you.” His eyes glinted with a mischievous, and somewhat angry light. “And number 2: teach you the consequences of breaking and entering someone's mindscape without permission.”
Jason took a step back from the golden-caped crusader as a million thoughts rocketed through Kamille’s head in fast succession. What could that mean? Surely Optic didn't send him to...no, Optic wouldn't do that...would he?
Super continued to smile, a bit creepy now that they knew why he was here. “Wait, if you're a superhero, then why are you going to attack a defenceless man like myself? Isn't that against your moral code or something?” Jason laughed nervously, hands out in front of him as some kind of pitiful cover.
Super levitated about a foot above the ground, never breaking eye contact. “Defenceless you say? I believe those androids whose circuits you just fried say otherwise. And my moral code does not hinder me from disciplining the younger generation for their wrongdoings. Think of it like spanking a whiny child, not fun for the bratty kid, but necessary to get the amazingly handsome parent's point across.”
As Super floated forward, Jason backpedaled until his heels were bordering the edge of the building; sending pebbles and dust to the busy road below. Kamille scrambled after them, the red stitching on the palms of her suit glowing white with heat.
Next thing she knew, Super had grabbed Jason by the front of his shirt, and had flown upwards several stories; so that they were only tiny, black dots on a backdrop of cloudless, blue sky. Kamille couldn’t hear what they were saying, nor could she see what they were doing from so far away, but it is really easy to tell when someone is dropped. Especially if that someone is your brother.
