Chapter 10: Jason

Jason felt many feelings at that moment, as he watched Sean collapse after being hit by Chrome's weapon: betrayal, fear, anger, rage, fury, enmity, ire, animosity, and many other synonyms of the sort. Judging by the look on Kamille's face as her hands lit up with the power of the sun, she was feeling the same way. But even if he was angry at Optic, he didn't deserve to be shot.

The shooter, standing stoically in front of the duo, lowered his smoking cannon and outstretched his other palm in what he probably thought was a non-threatening pose. Bold of him to assume they would accept any form of mercy, after what he had just done, and was planning to do. "Why do you protect him? What has he done to deserve your favor? All he has ever accomplished in life is breaking hearts and destroying friendships. He had this coming from the beginning, so you needn't forfeit your own lives to save his. After all, my secondary objective will not be halted, so it is in your best interests to preserve what little time you have left."

Clapping her superheated hands together, Kamille sent a fiery red heat wave in the robot's direction. Her face was bright red with anger, and Jason didn't blame her. "He's given us a place to belong! And that's more than anyone else has ever done for us!" She screamed at the android, tears pricking the edges of her eyelids and falling down her beet-red cheeks.

Jason, hoping to protect him from whatever Chrome had planned, surrounded the unconscious Optic with a bubble of telekinesis; so that anything flying towards him would be flung back in the other direction. "So if you think we are going to let him die just because of a little secret, you got another thing coming." Glaring unflinchingly at Chrome's multi-colored irises, Jason showed his rage in a separate way from his sister.

Frowning in what might have been irritation, Chrome nimbly stepped to his left to avoid the fiery inferno that would've melted his synthetic skin. Crossing his arms over the G shining through his shirt, he closed his eyes. "Very well. I do hope you enjoy whatever afterlife you find yourselves in." His eyes opened, and Jason was shocked to see that the red part had completely enveloped his irises, and they were now glowing a threatening crimson; instead of the usual balanced mix of colors. "Control-X"

Like he had just used the keyboard shortcut on himself, Chrome disappeared, leaving the Jugas staring dumbly at the space where he once stood. A string of adult words flooded out of Kamille's mouth, causing Jason to raise his eyebrow at his siblings uncharacteristic rage. "Come on, he could be anywhere." Readying their abilities for use, the twins stood back to back, ready to attack at the slightest provocation. "Where is he..."

   "Control-V. Control-C, x4."

The two Jugas' heads snapped towards the noise, only to come face-to-face-to-face-to-face-to-face with five identical Google Chrome's, each with a different colored G. The one with the white G, who Jason assumed was the original, stepped forwards. "Do you surrender? Or must I copy myself a few more times."  Blue G walked up and stood to his right, "We do not like shedding blood. It is sticky, and eliminates any chance of collaboration in the future."  With automated movements, Red G advanced to take his place at Chrome's left, clenching and clenching his fists in a threatening motion. "But if we must, we would not mind testing out our new upgrade.Yellow G and Green G marched up and spoke simultaneously, sending chills down Jason's spine, "We always love a good science experiment, especially when test subjects are involved." Chrome spread his arms out, grinning, and all five of the Androids mimicked him; speaking in sync, as if from a horror movie. "So, congratulations humans! You have been selected to win a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: to engage in combat with the internet itself! Click here for details."

Without as much as a warning, Blue and Red teleported to Kamille's side, grabbing her and throwing her against the wall of the elevator shaft. Leaping on top of her, they quickly engaged in combat, their fists flying faster than Kamille could parry. She did get a lot of good hits in, but the clones didn't seem to worry or care when her fiery touch melted their skin and exposed the metal beneath.

While Kamille dealt with those two, Jason had to deal with his own problems. At Chrome's command, Green and Yellow's arms changed into lasers, and they fired green beams at Jason (acting more like machine guns than cannons). Moving by pure instinct, he dodged those that he could, then sent the rest back at them with random bursts of telekinesis. Just as with Kamille, neither of them seemed to care when their own lasers rammed into their torso's, creating dents in their armor and barely missing their cores.

Chrome himself stood on the sidelines, eyes overtaken with 1s and 0s, commanding his small army from afar. Face emotionless and hands out in front of him, he pressed colorful buttons on hologram touchscreens that were projected in front of him. Seemingly finished with whatever work he had immersed himself in, his eyes returned to their normal Chrome icons. "Google Green, Yellow, Red, and Blue. Restrain them."

Immediately obeying their leader, the Googles advanced, each grabbing a twin's arm with their own melted and/or disfigured ones in a literal steel grip; despite their captive's thrashing. Still kicking, the Juga's were lugged in front of Chrome's emotionless stare. "Last chance to surrender peacefully. If you continue, I will be forced to Pause one or both of you. Depending completely on your cooperation."

Livid, Kamille spat on the machine's perfectly polished, iron shoes. "*bleep* you and all your clones." She yelled at him, not caring in the slightest when Red and Blue's already tight grip hardened. Almost disbelieving his own senses, Jason stared at his sister in shock. This was so unlike her. Usually she was one to agree to everything, go with the flow, and make jokes about it afterwards. This kind of behavior from her was...strange...to say the least.

Disgusted, Chrome glanced down at his wet foot, mechanical lips pressing into a flat line. "Very well. Do not say I did not give you a suitable warning." He shifted his gaze to meet Kamille's, his multicolored eyes meeting her hardened brown ones, and spoke one word. "Pause."

Kamille froze mid-protest, the universal symbol for "loading" floating in front of her sternum.
