Hermitober Day 18: Void

In the beginning, there was nothing but the Void, and he lived alone in the Universe. But eventually, he grew lonely, and with nothing else to do, he decided to create.

First, the Void tenderly dreamed up a land of floating isles and strange purple structures among them. Next, a world of fire and red cliffs. And finally, a world that contained many within, from structures of frozen water to areas of towering trees, and most things between.

But the Void had created so much, and he was still alone. He didn't want to be alone anymore.

So he created people to inhabit the worlds. He created the spritely Vex, and the imposing Watchers, and the powerful Infernals. Each of them claimed a part of the world as theirs, and they took what the Void had created and made it theirs. The Void gave his children each a different form of Magic.

But it was not enough. The new children weren't keen on creating anything for themselves. So the Void tried again. Many many different kinds of life were created, suited for all of the different worlds, but none seemed right. None were able to create as the Void could.

It took him many years, and his children began to think their father foolish. But eventually a time came where he created a new people- Players. The Void sent these people out into the world to explore, as he did with all the other kinds.

And the Players tore down parts of the world and made them different. They took the parts that came from the world and used them to create. The Void was so pleased!

His other children didn't like the Players very much, however, and made things very hard for them. They couldn't create very well, or even at all, but they could destroy. They had Magic, they were just as powerful as the Void, and especially more than the Players! The other people decided that they would take their destruction to the Players and prove themselves to be better.

Eventually, a group of players came to the Void for aid. They travelled far and long within the three realms, and lost many along the way to the destruction caused by the others. But eventually, a small amount of them came to where the Void lived, and begged him for help protecting themselves.

The Void was angered at his children, for he saw them all as special in their own way. There was a reason that they all had abilities that were so different! So none could be seen as better than the other!

But the Void didn't want any of his children to fear him. So he instead shielded small parts of the three realms and created the first Server, a place meant to be safe from the eyes. The travelling Players lived here, and they called themselves the Voidwalkers, after the long journey they made to find the Void.

Eventually, there were many Servers, and people were needed to keep them safe. The Voidwalkers and the Void came to the conclusion that some of their children would be raised as protectors of the Servers. These people were referred to as Admins. They would decide who could and who couldn't get into a server, and they would decide if someone needed to be forced out.

So the Admins entered the Servers, and many generations passed. Servers were made, and more Admins came to take charge. Servers were taken over, sometimes by other people, sometimes by other players. Eventually, everyone forgot what it was all for; why things were this way in the first place. But the Voidwalkers didn't forget. The Void didn't forget. Their job was to take care of the people that called their Servers home.

Xisuma recalled learning the tale when he was little and living in the Voidwalker Server, training to be an Admin. He hadn't believed it at first, not seeing what made Voidwalkers more special than any other player. He hadn't seen any signs of any sentient beings other than mobs and other players.

Despite this, he kept his duties seriously as an Admin. When he was given charge of the Hermitcraft Server, he and his brother Xeres both, he decided on the rule that was given. While anyone could leave the Server at any time, players could only get in if they had been invited in by somebody who was already allowed.

It was just typical players at first, humans and hybrids. But then came some rather strange players that confirmed the story in some odd ways.

Impulse and Zed had found a hurt demon, wings torn apart by claws. After reporting the encounter to Xisuma, he had told them to bring the demon to the server to be healed. It could have been a bad decision, but he was thankful it turned out okay. Better, even, as the demon was a talented player and a great asset to the Server. Of course, Xeres didn't think it was such a good idea, since Tango was connected to the Infernals on the grounds of being a demon. But Xisuma argued that that hadn't been Tango's choice.

Next was an incident of two of his servermates going missing for a few weeks. The hermits were allowed to leave, of course, but they usually informed someone that they would be away. These two hadn't. When they returned, they had Vex magic, which had been a cause of alarm for him. But he decided that they should be able to stay, as they had proven themselves to be very loyal. Xeres thought it was a bad decision on Xisuma's part, but Xisuma saw no reason why Cub and Scar should suddenly not be trusted.

The third incident came when Mumbo invited a Watcher-claimed person to the Server. Xisuma decided to let him in, as he had proven to be a valuable member in past servers. Once again, Xeres protested, and once again, Xisuma ignored his protests. Grian showed no reason to want to harm them. Watcher-claimed had little choice in what they were, as most were forced into that situation.

Xeres reminded Xisuma again and again that as an Admin, it was his duty to protect players he came across. They couldn't let in everyone who was connected in one way or another, and if they let in a spy, it could put everyone on the server in danger. Xisuma thought differently. The Void loved all his children, after all. Maybe they could end up being an example of unity, and the war waged by the people before them could finally end.

Xisuma liked to believe that the Void liked what they had made.

A bit of worldbuilding, basically. I decided to make a theogany for the Aquaverse, and this is it. I'll probably edit the heck out of this later, but for now, it's here.

So yeah, Xeres doesn't trust some of the Hermits, because he wants to protect the others. He's a bit misguided, but has pure intent. Xisuma wants to help everyone. So far, everything's worked out relatively well, and I think the Void would be proud of both of the Voidwalkers of Hermitcraft.

Questions are encouraged if you want to know more. I hope you enjoyed!

Sea you later!
