Hermitober Day 15: Free Day

Could item duping apply to living things? Essentially, was cloning possible in their world?

This was a question that came to Cub when trying to come up with ideas for a new project. If it could, that would be really beneficial to Concorp. It could really speed up a mob farm, as you wouldn't have to spend as much time AFKing. You'd get more drops in a certain amount of time, after all. It could really increase productivity.

So the Vex scientist decided he would give it a try. It didn't take him long to build off of some of Doc's experiments in the past with item duping, applying the changes needed for biological testing. It was relatively simple compared to some other projects hermits had undertaken in the past, but still complex enough that it took a lot of forethought to complete.

Which was why he was glad when Joe messaged him about elytra insurance. A bit of a break would probably be good for him. Cub grabbed an elytra to deliver to Concorp's partner, and flew off, not realizing that his machine was active.

While he was gone, a certain gray and white feline came over to see what her human companion's best friend and business partner had been up to. The machine had a platform that was radiating heat.

Now, Jellie, being a cat, loved to curl up on warm surfaces and nap every so often. And here was a great opportunity for her to do so. Delicately making her way over, she made herself comfortable and fell asleep on the device.

What she didn't know about the machine was that this was the part of the machine where a living creature would stand, and their DNA copied. And Cub, who had not finished the device yet, hadn't installed a way to control the output. So as Jellie innocently slept, more and more cats came into existence and started to wander amongst the company grounds. Soon enough, the felines were everywhere.

Soon after helping Joe, Cub met up with Scar to have a meeting about their next business opportunity, unaware that Exhibit A had already come about. At least, until they walked into the grounds.

Needless to say, they were very surprised by the sheer amount of identical grey and white cats that met them.

"Oh no..." Cub exhaled, realizing what must've happened.

"Cub, what happened?!" Scar exclaimed as he was swarmed by the many Jellies.

Cub took a moment to explain what he had been working on, and both of them were silent for a while. Eventually, the scientist spoke. "I can deactivate the machine, but I'm not sure what I can do about the Jellie clone problem."

"This is the exact opposite of a problem." his partner replied with delight.

Cub shook his head, smiling at the cowboy. "We can't take care of all of them." He pointed out, trying to keep from laughing.

"Speak for yourself, I've already adopted them." Scar retorted playfully as the original Jellie came up with five companions.

In the end, nothing really changed other than the fact that now you could easily find gray and white cats living in the Hermitcraft server, and Cub has made it a priority to catproof his machines.

AKA, the prompt where Jellie unknowingly becomes the mother of an entire civilization.

I hope you enjoyed this complete randomness.

Sea you later!
