Can't Go Back

Evil Xisuma stood up and coughed, the glass of his helmet was cracked and he looked through it at Hels. The knight stood up and looked at the destruction around them, Evil was surprised the building was still standing.

"Damn it." Hels picked up the bloodstained sword on the ground, Iskall made it from some rare metal in the nether. "I'm going to put out some of this fire. You saw Iskall's injuries, there's no way he's getting far. Go find his body."

Evil nodded and walked out through the ruined doors. He could see a blood trail that led into the forest, it didn't go far. There was no body though, it was almost like Iskall disappeared. Had he teleported?

He returned to Hels. "His body is gone. He might have teleported or something."

"Maybe. He has to be dead. Whatever the case is, he's definitely not a threat anymore." He looked at the destruction. "Whatever, we won't need a base for much longer anyway."

"So... the whole ending the world thing. How are we doing that?"

Hels nodded out the window to the sky. It was still full of white scars where hell had rained down on them. "After all this, reality is unstable. The universe is ready to collapse on itself and start again. It just needs a little push. I'm working on a weapon that will absorb all the Hermits souls and give me the power to end it. I'll be a god, I'll let it end and start from scratch. You have nothing to be scared of, I'll bring you back of course. We'll rule our new world."

Evil was a little anxious about the thought of the end of everything. "And the hermits?"

Hels chuckled. "They'll be no more. They've always hated us. I'm so excited to get rid of Wels. I try to ignore him but he never shuts up. He's always there, talking to me in my mind." He cracked his knuckles. "It's time Evil Xisuma. This is the beginning of the end. Before we do anything else we need to send them into a panic, so it's time for you to officially prove yourself."

"What do you mean,"

"It seems that Scar has been made Admin. I'm going to go make the final preparations and you're going to go kill him. Once it's done I'll get started."

"Why do you need to go kill Scar? Does the admin need to be dead for it to work or something?"

Hels shook his head. "No, but we can't underestimate them. We'll kill him and send them into a panic. That's when we'll strike, we can't take any chances."

"Alright, I'll do it." Evil said.

"Perfect. What are you waiting for?" Hels smiled. "Let's go end the world."

Evil found himself in a clearing close to the shopping district. Scar would be close, he just had to kill him. He had to admit, there was something inside him that wasn't sure he wanted to. Before Hels took him in, Scar was an ally. He buried that thought down deep, they always hated him. To them, he was just Xisuma's evil brother.

Before he even reached the shopping district he saw movement in the trees. Scar and Etho were helping Gem walk, she looked really weak and sick. But the most insane sight was the grass and plants that grew out of the ground where they walked.

Scar looked over and met his eyes. "Evil?" He left Gem with Etho and walked over.

Evil Xisuma drew his sword. "The world is going to end, Scar. And it all starts with your death."

Scar took a step closer. "You aren't a killer. You can't."

"Evil is in my name. It's who I am."

Scar shook his head. "You're a good person. You just need to realise it." He stood closer so Evil Xisuma's sword was resting on his chest. "Are you really going to kill me? Do you really want the world to end?"

Evil tried. He attempted to will himself into killing Scar, but he couldn't. He lowered the sword.

"See, you aren't a killer. Deep down, you aren't evil."

Evil couldn't face it. He ran away. He didn't just run away from Scar, Gem and Etho but he was running from Hels, from his problems and from his life.

He thought he heard Scar running after him but he didn't turn around to check. He found himself in the shopping district, he could see the statue of his brother and he ran for it. He hid behind the base of the statue, taking deep breaths. He ripped his cracked helmet off, letting his long white hair fall out.

"Xisuma? I really need you right now." He hugged his knees to his chest, panic surging his veins. "I don't know what I'm doing. I wish we knew what a threat they were, before it all went to hell. We could have stopped them before it all, or maybe we could have ran away."

Tears pricked his eyes. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry I joined Hels. It's just, in that moment I hated Iskall more than anything. I thought if I joined Hels I could get revenge on him. I thought he'd make me feel like I belonged." Evil shook his head. "But he didn't. I'm sorry. I don't need you to forgive me. But if you're listening, I just want you to know that I'm sorry."

"I don't know who I am." Evil continued. "I don't want to be the bad guy. I know that now. But it feels like everything in the world wants me to be. I'm just Evil Xisuma, but I don't want to just be your evil brother."

Evil closed his eyes and pretended the rest of the world didn't exist.

Soon, it wouldn't.

Iskall and Xisuma stood by a river that ran through the forest. Xisuma had taken them far away from Helsknight's castle and all of Iskall's wounds were gone.

Iskall turned to Xisuma. "Why did you save me?"

The fallen admin shrugged. "Why wouldn't I."

"I-I killed you."

"I know. And I know you regret it. You can't change the past. Beef and I are gone forever." Xisuma looked away from the river and back to Iskall. "Don't let anyone else die."

"I don't regret it. I had to." Even as he said it, Iskall was unsure if he meant it.

"You don't have to rule the world, Iskall. That was put there by Hels, you don't even want to, you just think you do.

"You don't know what you're talking about."

"You'll understand, soon enough." Xisuma took off his helmet. "Look, we're going to talk again. Soon, you'll be fighting for the fate of the world. You're going to have to decide who's side you're on and when that happens, I'm going to give you the time you need. I'll be there to help you choose."

"I don't understand what you mean." Iskall said.

"I'm giving the most important gift you'll need. I'm giving you time. And maybe, just maybe, you'll save the world."

And just as soon as he appeared, Xisuma was gone.

It felt like Xisuma had left him with one more gift. Knowledge. Soon there would be only five people left in existence.

The Knight

The Mayor

The Hound

The Brother

And there was one more. But it was as if the universe couldn't decide if they were The Saviour or The End of Everything.

Iskall didn't know how, but he knew exactly what direction to walk. He began to wrestle with the question if it was better to rule the world or just to live in it.

I almost don't want to finish this story
It's been so fun to write
It's definitely not a perfect story but I've loved creating it
