Sunshine

Slight bit of angst- alright fine a lotta angst- it's like a nice lil hurt/ comfort fic.

Ok this is sorta an AU. The ending of EVO has changed. It's where if you die, you get transported to a completely new sever, with all your memories of your old one. The hermits are exceptions, for- I would say magical reasons- but it's just plot convenience really...

Grian stared down at the vast ocean below, the water twisting and churning, crashing onto the side of the cliff. He wasn't wearing elytra. There was no point; elytra was used to glide. He wanted to fall.

He took a step back, shoving down the feelings of guilt and nervousness. No one would care. No one would notice. Just like his old- no. He just had to find the courage to take that final step... but it was alright. He had all night.

Grian wasn't sure how long it had been. The tiny bit of light left had disappeared, leaving the bay bathed in nothing but weak moonlight that flickered away randomly. The starlight did absolutely nothing to help.

It must've been hours, since the moon had started sinking over the horizon already. Grian cursed; it was now or never. Putting it off yet another night wasn't going to help. He stood up, taking a few wobbly steps to the edge of the cliff, tears pricking at the corner of his eyes.

The early morning wind picked up, shooting streams of cold through him. His heart was pounding in his throat, making him feel nauseous. A small pebble dropped down, making him wince. Just one more step, and it'll all be over.

"Grian!" He whipped around at the sound of his name. "What the hell are you doing?" No. No no no. Someone had found him. From what he could see... it was Xisuma. The admin landed a mere few metres from him, worry in his eyes.

"Uh.. would you believe me if I said I was looking at the view?" Grian said weakly, not moving from his rather precarious spot near the edge of the cliff.

"It's literally four in the morning. There's nothing to look at." Xisuma stated, looking out at the still-dark sky. "Also, please move away from the edge, you could fall off any minute-" the truth seemed to finally dawn on him, and his eyes widened. "Grian. Step away from the edge."

"Figured it out now." It wasn't a question. Another step backwards. "What's it for you?" The tears had started falling now, stinging his eyes.  "Would you even care? If I disappeared?"

"Of course I would! Why would you even think that? Come on Gri, we all care about you- everyone. Please, talk to me."

"That's what they all said." Grian muttered, still not moving. "They said they cared. I thought they did. How do you think I got here?!" He was almost yelling now, not from anger- but from the overwhelming feelings of the emotions all crashing over him like the waves below.

Xisuma froze, thinking for a second. He had forgotten about how other players were transported to new servers, forgotten that not everyone had the privilege of moving worlds by portal. The only way to get to a new world...

"My god.. Grian-" he didn't know what to say. Nothing really seemed to fit the situation. But- actions speak louder than words, right? So, going by that, he stepped forwards, pulling him into an embrace, and away from the side of the precipice.

Both of them sat silently for a while, until Grian managed something: "They left me. Our friendship was already unstable. But still, the weakest must go.." he trailed off, not wanting to continue.

"Hey, it's alright. You don't have to say anything. Just sit here with me, okay?" Xisuma said softly, shifting Grian over slightly, but he still kept his arm around him. Another silence. The sun was slowly peeking over the horizon, bringing light to a new day.

"Hey, the sunrise is pretty." Grian commented, looking out over the sea. The morning sun coloured the sky around it vibrant shades of oranges, reds and purples, reflecting and bouncing off of the ocean, creating sparkling patterns in the water.

A pause. "It is." Grian shuffled over a bit, instinctively leaning his head onto Xisuma's shoulder, sighing. "I'm sorry."

"For what? You know, you have nothing to be sorry for."

"I know. But I can't help but feel like a bother sometimes."

"Grian, I promise you, you're not a bother. Look at the sun. Your name? It means sun." A small smile. "You're the light to my day, to so many others as well."

It was quiet. They didn't need to talk. The pair just sat there, watching the sun rise slowly. Just like the sun, there were times when the dark side took over, bringing darkness into their lives. But also just like the sun, they would rise again, and shine once more.

Aight y'all. I got inspiration and decided to write. So uh.. I just wanted to say something about this fandom. Skip this if you want.

Thank you, all of you in this community, just for being here and reading these words. Because through all of you, I've found one of the best fandoms I've ever been in in my life.

I've been through quite a few fandoms. All of them I left. Why? Simple. Toxic people. I'd found people hating on others for shipping this, doing that, writing this. People writing disrespectful things to/about others. Hell, I lost a couple of online friends due to the fact that I shipped a certain thing. It just wasn't fun when people argued left, right and centre.

But here? I've found none of that. Yes, maybe some other platforms may have people just as bad, but to me, the positives shine out. You all are so welcoming, so kind to newcomers, everything. Everyone is so supportive of everyone else, and that's the best part about the fandom.

Uh, this is getting kind of long, so... once again, thank you all, so much.
