Christmas Tree Decorating

Hello again. So uh... decided to do the Hermittpad Christmas Countdown thing! Since I missed like, six days (whoops), I'll start from now. Other oneshots will still be published, just wanted to do this for now.

This morning, the hermits awoke to a pleasant surprise. In an empty place in the Christmas district, a huge spruce tree had been built. It stretched up high into the sky, and it was a beautiful build, but there was still something missing. The branches and leaves were bare... not very festive.

Underneath it however, lay a note.

'Thought you guys could use some holiday spirit. Here, have this tree, and decorate it however you'd like. Merry (early) Christmas!

Was written on it in messy handwriting. Half of it was smudged due to the falling snow throughout the night, but it was still somewhat legible. Nobody had signed it, but it was fine. Tree decorating was always fun.

Xisuma sent a message through the group chat.

Xisuma: Meet in the Christmas district in about an hour. Bring any decorations. We need a lot :)

Before long, hermits started showing up in groups, boxes of ornaments, tinsel, fairy lights, and who knows what else stacked in their arms. They put them in the collection next to the tree trunk, where they could be stored until everyone arrived.

"Oops." X turned around to see a very colourful Ren underneath the stack of boxes, which was now not so much a pile and more a misshapen stack, with the previously organised decorations scattered all over the snowy grass. Next to him, Grian was doubled over laughing, whereas Doc stood a little ways away, looking like he regretted his life choices.

He facepalmed, striding over to them. "Alright, you three-" Doc walked off quickly, finding another group to talk with. "-Two. Clean this up please. Ren, don't run into the decorations. Grian, don't laugh at Ren when he runs into the decorations."

"Yeah, yeah, sure." Grian said, yanking a piece of tinsel out of Ren's overalls. "We'll get it done.. eventually." Then Xisuma left, leaving the two to deal with a very well decorated Rendog.

While the pair were getting cleaned up, a certain person decided they didn't want to wait. Namely, Iskall. He elytra-dive-bombed into the messy stack, grabbing a few ornaments on the way out. It was pretty impressive, if they were being honest.

Then of course, because Iskall did it, most of the others followed suit. It soon became a competition almost, to see who could hang the ornaments the best on the fly-by. Grian abandoned Ren to join in, and Ren eventually gave up on trying to pick out the pieces of glitter from his hair. Even Xisuma decided to give up trying to be an authority figure eventually.

Before they knew it, the sun was sinking down over the horizon, a light snow had started falling, and the pile was almost gone. Except... a large star that lay on the bottom, glittering silver. It was like a mutual agreement- all the hermits there grabbed a section of it, then took off, ready to put it on the tip of the tree.

It wasn't easy; they almost dropped it down all of twenty-three times on the way up, but they did it. It slid onto the top branches, letting it stand by itself. The star was the finishing touch to an amazing part of an amazing district, which was the result of an amazing event, made with amazing people... overall it was pretty amazing.

The group flew down, laughing and talking. A pinkish red glow remained in the inky black sky even after the sun set completely. But there was still one more thing to do. A lever, that activated the lights wrapped all around the tree.

"And... bam!" The lights flickered on, bathing the snow with rainbow colours. A resounding chorus of 'whoas' came from the hermits underneath. They were silent for a second, taking in the beautiful sight.

Until Iskall broke the silence. "You know, I think the snow is much snowier tonight."
